weighted blankets for someone who needs to stay cool but completely covered all night?
hi! as the title suggests, i'm looking for a new weighted blanket. i have cptsd, adhd, as well as a plethora of chronic illnesses that hurt like crazy as well as keep me trapped in bed most hours of the day, so i get a lot of use out of weighted blankets lol. i have a cheap one off of amazon, the type that has glass beads inside, but there's two issues i have with it: i run very hot, just in general, and this blanket does not help much with that i now have a kitten, and i don't want to run the risk of him ripping a hole in my blanket and getting glass beads everywhere i've already had one weighted blanket made with glass beads rip before, so i know how messy they are. and my kitten in particular is an absolute chaos gremlin, so i feel like even though i tend to have a few layers on top of the weighted blanket (thin, mind you, given my temperature issues) it's only a matter of time... so, i wanted to ask here about recommendations about a replacement. i'm hoping for something affordable, as i'll have to ask for it as a gift due to the fact that i myself have no income anymore due to being disabled and incapable of working. that's the first factor to consider. secondly, while i'm plenty open to the big knit blankets, i worry about the texture; i really prefer my blankets to be relatively flat and soft, y'know? but i'm still willing to look into it plenty, i just wonder if there are any other option beyond glass beads or chunky knit that i don't know of that might work better. if you're able to help, i'll really appreciate it. thank you!!! edit: typos submitted by /u/maknaeline to r/BuyItForLife [link] [comments]

Finished this weighted blanket for my best friend's grandson. Made with Lion Brand ombre and Big Twist yarn and pony beads. I used a 4.5 mm for the rows without beads and a 3.5 mm for the rows with the beads. I added a crab stitch border. Made with various colors of pony beads. (Including glitter and glow in the dark) Also found some square alphabet beads to put his name in at random places. BEST purchase you made that improved sleep / weighted blanket recommendations?
My ideas so far have been sunrise alarm clock, weighted blanket for sure, cool sheets? My sleep has been awful recently, and realized that I need to give my bedroom a bit of a revamp. My comforter/sheets/mattress protector pad are pretty cheap (bought them in college on Amazon), I’ve been sleeping with the same pillow for 6 years now, and I have no type of alarm clock other than my phone. My bf recently got me the Philips Hue light bulbs which I LOVE, and I’d just like to give my whole room a makeover. what magic is in weighted blankets
i’ve had a weighted blanket on my bed for a few years (a 4kg one) and i’ve never upgraded so i thought a few days ago about getting another. i found a 10kg fluffy one on amazon and bought it and last night i slept with it on, i put my head on my pillow at 10pm and within 10 MINUTES i was asleep. This thing is magic any other day it would take at least an hour of rolling around to fall asleep but no. i definitely recommend one if you struggle to fall asleep at night submitted by /u/ExtensionSpray7219 to r/ADHD [link] [comments]

Pros + cons of having a weighted blanket heavier than 10% of body weight?
I am looking into buying a weighted blanket both to sleep under and just to calm myself down during the day. I like to have something really heavy resting on top of me that “hugs” me. So I’m thinking about getting a blanket that weighs more than the recommended 10% of my body weight (10kg blanket, and I’m somewhere between 60 and 65 kg). Have any of you tried using a blanket that is “too heavy” for your body weight? If so, what are your experiences? submitted by /u/whoevenisshe to r/AutismInWomen [link] [comments]

Weighted blankets are horrible
I know a lot of people who love their weighted blankets, and I don’t understand it. They’re advertised as being good for anxiety and difficulty sleeping, but my nighttime anxiety and insomnia were only worsened by a weighted blanket. First off, they’re insanely overpriced. I only had one because my grandma got it as a gift and didn’t want it. I can’t fathom spending $50–100 on a blanket. As for comfort, they pin you down and restrict your movement. I had to lift the thing off my body just to roll over. I had a 15lb blanket, which is pretty light compared to other blankets. It felt like someone was sitting on my chest. Lastly, I can’t think of how you would wash a weighted blanket. My washing machine violently shakes with a regular comforter. I feel like a 20lb blanket would break the average washing machine. Weighted blankets suck. submitted by /u/neeeenbean to r/unpopularopinion [link] [comments]

I’ve been posting a little bit about my weighted blanket, which was a gift from a friend. Best gift ever! It has absolutely changed my life. Before the weighted blanket, I had frequent panic attacks at night. Now, it’s a rare occurrence. For people who sleep hot, there are cotton cooling options. Caution: Weighted Blankets
Just a cautionary tale here. I recently bought a 15lbs/6.8kg (edit - got units wrong) weighted blanket that was a bargain in B&M. They recommend 10% of your weight so I was in the clear. I slept with it for the past week. Every single day I woke up with intense hip and back pain. I have yet undiagnosed joint issues, scoliosis, and fused hip and lower vertebrae which causes pain, restricted movement, and intense clicking. At first, I thought I had slept wrong because I woke up feeling rested and well slept with the weighted blanket. It happened again and the pain was so intense in my hip I could barely sit up to get out of bed (I literally slid out). Two days later of the same thing happening and I come to realisation when I wake up with bad back pain today: the blanket is the changed factor. I quickly did some google searching - so many people saying it helps with sensory issues, chronic pain, sleep, and anxiety. However, a quick change in google search and I find so many testimonies of horror stories of people waking up with intense hip and back pain. It seems that if you have preexisting conditions that cause chronic pain or previous injuries then a weighted blanket, even at the lightest, may irritate your condition. Apparently, a healthy person won’t be bothered by the weight but an unhealthy person will experience the exact opposite of what is intended. Thank someone that I only spent £20 and four days of pain before realising the issue. Imagine if I spent months deteriorating and hundreds of pounds on that crap. It’s a good thing I didn’t buy the expensive one back when I was first looking at them. submitted by /u/KleioChronicles to r/autism [link] [comments]

PSA: be careful with weighted blankets
This isn’t entirely bachelor related BUT I’ve seen a lot of contestants shilling these and they’ve become quite popular recently I was gifted one for Christmas and was very excited about it because I don’t sleep well and have anxiety. I wasn’t sure if it was safe for my dog to sleep under so I put him in his crate for the night I tried it. I’m glad I did because I woke up during the night gasping for breath and felt like I was being suffocated I just read about them and they aren’t approved for elderly, children, pregnant women, or small dogs. Just FYI, I’m sure they’re fine for regular people❤️ Edit: my bad guys, it’s been pointed out to me that the blankets can be used for children. You just need to do your research and decide if it’s safe for you and buy the correct weight. I would be careful if you have pets that sleep under the covers with you, though! submitted by /u/greycat91 to r/thebachelor [link] [comments]
