I’ve been a Garmin user for a long time, but I recently decided to give Coros a shot. For context, I’ve been competitively bodybuilding for about 8 years, but I started running a year ago and I’m up to 25 miles a week now. I track my calories pretty religiously, so I’m picky about my data. The Good stuff The Coros app is honestly amazing. It’s super clean and the price to performance ratio is hard to beat. I love the physical design of the watch, the MIP screen, and the way the buttons and navigation work. Using the watch while following a route feels superior to Garmin. Probably 70% of the experience is either equal to or better than what I was getting before. The Frustrating stuff The Flashlight: I miss the dedicated LED flashlight so much. I use it every single day when looking for my dogs shit at 4am or getting up at night to piss. The "screen flashlight" on the Coros is basically useless in comparison. Strength Training: What the fuck is this? Why am I forced to select a body part? Why can’t I just turn off the set and rep tracking? I just want an open workout mode that isn’t "Gym Cardio" since I use that for other gym workouts. Garmin’s allows you to turn this stuff and their flexibility with settings is way better. Backlight: It’s blinding at night. On Garmin, I kept mine at 5%, but Coros feels like it’s stuck at 70% with no way to dim it. You can’t even fully disable it for button presses. Calories and Settings: It’s annoying that I can’t see total calorie burn (Active + BMR). I understand that it's inaccurate but it's still something a lot of people look at, specially when cutting/bulking. I ended up returning the watch after a week, but I'm definitely going to keep an eye on Coros. I’ll definitely try them again in the future. TL;DR Coros has a great app and design, but the clunky strength UI and lack of a real flashlight led me back to Garmin for now. Theory: The next watches that will be released are a new vertix and nomad. Some of you are wondering what the next coros will be, and to that I say, a new vertix and a new Nomad. Allow me to explain. As you know, the other two coros series already have pro versions: The Pace Pro and the Apex Pro. comparing these to the latest releases in the series—Pace 4 and Apex 4—the Pro series are just barely better than the newest additions. Adding another watch would undermine the purpose of a pro version. Not only that, but we are seeing a slow transition away from running as the main focus. Coros has been slowly shifting over to an outdoors and remote survival focus, and I can prove it. The Nomad is the only watch in the series that hasn't been reissued, and the Vertix is due for a new model. Coros has not only left a perfect opportunity for these new releases, but they might actually already be hinting at it. Coros has just released the Hydrop, a castable fishing sensor aimed at helping anglers get a better idea of what is under the water. This is very out of the blue for Coros. Not only that, but the Hydrop is only compatible with the Vertix and Nomad families. It's almost as if they are leaning harder into the fishing and outdoors side of things. With all things considered, I believe this is the most likely outcome for Coros, but let me know. I'd love to hear some of your theories. Edit: After some discussions in the comments, I have reached my final conclusion. I recently switched from an apple watch SE to a Coros Pace 3 specifically due to battery life and GPS issues and... I absolutely love it, its such a great product that I can get behind, the only issue I had was struggling to change the order of my multisport workout but that fixed itself overnight. So here's my question, the store I bought the watch from said I can return within 30 days to upgrade to the Pace 4 or even Pace Pro. Is the upgrade worth it? (£30 to the Pace 4 and £100 to the Pro) What are the difference between the Pace 4 and Pro? Unrelated question, I've been loving the watch so far that I'm even looking at the Coros bike computer, any experiences with it? THANKS! g’day fellow trail runners I’m looking for some feedback from anyone who’s moved from Garmin to Coros—or whether you’d recommend just sticking with Garmin and upgrading to a newer model. I’m currently using a Garmin Fenix 5 plus and considering a Coros Apex 4. For those who’ve made the switch, did you notice much difference in terms of the overall ecosystem and day-to-day use? I’ve read people love Coros‘ ecosystem. I’ve found Garmin, even after all these years, still a bit counterintuitive at times. I’m also interested in heart rate accuracy, as mine can be a bit inconsistent on the old Fenix. Is the Coros armband HR monitor a worthwhile investment too? For context, my running is about 15–20% road and the rest trail/mountain, and I also ride and hike. Appreciate any insights 👍 Cheers!
