Feel like I'm losing it trying to feed this dog (long post, seeking advice)
I've had my girl since she was 9 weeks old and it's been a struggle to get her to eat for 4 years. From day one it has been hard to get her to eat, even the food she had been eating before I adopted her. The not eating wouldn't really be that big of a deal but she is also underweight. I had no idea huskies were so picky before I got one, then when I did my research I didn't feel comforted because she is totally missing the mark for breed standard weight AND she is skinny skinny. She looks like a sight hound wearing a husky costume. Some context in a list: -she is 100% pure bred Siberian Husky (and yes I know pure bred does not mean well bred) -her father is also small, weighing only about 45lbs -however her mother weighs in the 55lbs area -breeder informed me father was also very picky as a puppy but we are well passed puppy years -she used to seem to have bilious vomiting syndrome but it has cleared up recently -you can feel her spine and clearly see her pelvis My girl weighs about 30lbs. She's also not a wholly coated dog, she has very short fur which shows her figure more, I'm aware even some dogs that are bigger than her are still svelt under the fur, but she seems way too small. Her energy level is pretty low but that came with age, she used to be way more demanding and got two to three walks per day, now she's fine with one walk, some scent games, several trips out into the yard, and some dedicated training time. When we aren't doing those things she mostly naps. I take her on hikes pretty often and she doesn't get overly tired after, ten miles barely affects her energy level. So here's what I've tried to get her to eat not in consecutive order: -purina pro plan large breed puppy food (fed as an adult on rec from the vet to try and increase her calories).I could give her two cups of this out of an airtight container and she would peck at it for two to three days before it was gone -open farm raw mix, ancient grains formulas, rotated flavors. She kind of liked this for two months and then began to leave her food untouched -eukenuba large breed puppy food. Wouldn't even eat it -fresh pet dog food, the roll versions you can slice to portion. Roasted flavors. Wouldn't eat it unless I warmed it up and then wouldn't eat it without cottage cheese -purina beneful blends, always bought the variety box of beef, chicken, and lamb. Rotated flavor every single day. She would eat this the most consistently however she would never eat the recommended amount for her goal weight or even her current weight. She would sometimes eat two in one day and that was a miracle, mostly she would eat only one in one day. She needed it to be warmed up and in the end she needed some kind of addon like shredded cheese or yogurt or she wouldn't eat it -steves real food freeze dried raw duck. Wouldn't eat it as food, would eat it as treats -steves real food raw beef wouldn't eat it at all. Didn't want it if it was thawed on the fridge, didn't want it if I put it in the microwave low to defrost, didn't want it if I fried it on a pan (I know I know dudes but I was desperate for her to eat anything) What she is currently sort of eating but still will turn away from: -vital essentials frozen raw. She gets the recommended amount of beef for her weight as well as half a patty of vitals duck split between two meals every day. She is also getting some green juju veggie blends added into her food, and bone broth to warm it and make it smell nice. I've started adding in honey I'm home liver powder to try and increase the kcal amount in her food if she ends up not eating as much. She also gets a pre and probiotic chew every morning that she loves a lot and sometimes she gets some goats milk and fruit in her pupsicle. The good: -her poop is fantastic, it's consistent and firm without being too hard, she doesn't struggle to relieve herself and doesn't show discomfort -skin and coat are doing very well -teeth are very clean, I do also brush them Bad: -she is still not gaining weight and some days she won't eat one of her two meals. Giving her all of her food in the morning or evening doesn't work for her because she will still turn her nose up at an entire meal of she isn't I to it that day -im losing my mind trying to find more mix ins and toppers and things that she will actually enjoy eating. I gave this girl pita chips on her dinner the other day just so she would eat it -she always always always wants to eat human food but not dog food I don't know y'all. I'm looking for advice, I'm looking for tips, I'm looking for someone who knows some rare husky wasting disease I've never heard of. Has anyone tried those goop tubes you can get at petco that they give to dogs after surgery that need to gain weight? Should I try making satin balls for her to eat? Should I just give her oatmeal?? I have taken her to the vet so many times. Some pill for apetite stimulation didn't work. They have checked her levels for me multiple times because I'm so sad she looks emaciated to me and I worry she isn't getting proper nutrition. I have tried feeding her kibble as treats while training and she just spits it out. Also I appreciate people have opinions on wether or not raw food is or is not safe for dogs but please do not make the discussion about that. I have professional kitchen experience and know how to handle food and when it has to be taken up and how long it can be thawed and raw in my fridge. I trust the brands I have tried, this isn't what this post is about. Thank you in advance. Also included pictures of her submitted by /u/vulshanna to r/husky [link] [comments]

Most dog owners treat loose stools wrong because they start with probiotics. Here's what actually works first.
Most dog owners reach for probiotics the moment their dog has loose stools. Every pet store, every Facebook group, even some vets recommend it first Probiotics work downstream though. If the gut isn't stable, you're throwing good bacteria into a bad environment and wondering why nothing's changing. The more boring starting point is fiber. Soluble fiber bulks stool, slows transit, feeds the bacteria already there. Psyllium husk, pumpkin, sweet potato. Half a teaspoon of psyllium over food once daily for a medium dog, you'll usually see a difference in 3-4 days The thing most people miss is what the dog eats outside the bowl. Dogs that graze on walks looks like sniffing, actually swallowing grass, soil, whatever's on the ground have constantly disrupted guts. Vets call it pica. More common than people realise, almost never gets identified as the actual problem. A basket muzzle on walks sounds extreme but genuinely helps if your dog does this. Also worth doing fecal float once or twice a year if your dog eats things on walks. It's a simple test your vet can run to check if a parasitic load is quietly keeping the gut inflamed So if probiotics haven't worked after months start with fiber, fix the walks, get a fecal done. Most sensitive stomach dogs don't need a better supplement. They just need a high fiber diet and fewer snacks off the pavement. submitted by /u/FurryTailPetCare to r/Pets [link] [comments]

Your dog doesn't need a probiotic. Here's what they actually need
Probiotics for dogs are a 500 million dollar industry. Most of it is built on marketing that borrowed credibility from human gut health research and applied it to dogs without much supporting evidence I'm not saying probiotics are useless. In specific situations during or after antibiotic treatment, in dogs with diagnosed dysbiosis, in some chronic GI cases there's reasonable evidence they help. A 2020 study in the Journal of Veterinary Internal Medicine found strain-specific benefits in dogs with acute diarrhea, particularly with Lactobacillus and Enterococcus strains. The problem is that most owners are giving daily probiotics to healthy dogs with occasional loose stools. That's not dysbiosis. That's a diet or stress response. A probiotic won't fix it and in some cases adding fermentable substrates to an already irritated gut makes things worse in the short term What the research actually supports for gut health in dogs is much simpler. Dietary fibre from whole food sources, consistent feeding times, low-stress feeding environments, and avoiding frequent food changes. The gut microbiome in dogs stabilises around a consistent diet. Every time you switch food, change treat brands, or add supplements, you're disrupting that stability. The best thing you can do for a dog with a sensitive stomach is pick one food, stay on it, and stop adding things. The probiotic aisle exists because that answer doesn't sell anything If your dog has chronic loose stools lasting more than 3 weeks, that needs investigation fecal exam, diet history, possibly bloodwork. Not a probiotic. submitted by /u/FurryTailPetCare to r/Pets [link] [comments]

Looking for the Best Probiotics to Improve Your Dog’s Gut Health?
If you’ve ever dealt with random tummy issues, weird poops, or constant itching with your dog, you’ve probably gone down the probiotic rabbit hole at some point. It feels like everyone is recommending them lately, but figuring out which one actually makes a difference is the tricky part. Some dogs genuinely benefit from probiotics, especially if they’ve been on antibiotics, have sensitive stomachs, or deal with ongoing digestive drama. The thing is, not all probiotics are the same. Some are packed with multiple strains that support gut balance, while others are basically glorified treats with a tiny sprinkle of “good bacteria.” What you really want is something that supports digestion consistently, fewer stomach upsets, more regular bathroom trips, maybe even less skin flare-ups if allergies are part of the problem. It’s not about finding a miracle cure, just something that helps your dog’s system run a little smoother day to day. submitted by /u/Typical-Echo-8192 to r/DogHealth [link] [comments]

Thinking about probiotics for my dog's digestion - what's actually worked for your pups?
My 4-year-old dog has one of those sensitive stomachs that's never seriously sick but never quite "settled" either. Random soft stools, occasional gassiness, just enough inconsistency that I worry about his comfort. Figured it's time to try a daily probiotic. I've been browsing old threads and see a few names popping up regularly. Purina FortiFlora seems to be the most frequently mentioned, probably because it's often recommended by vets. Also came across Wuffes and PenPen while digging deeper—noticed they include digestive enzymes and prebiotics alongside probiotics, which makes sense if the goal is supporting digestion overall. For those of you who've tried different options: Which probiotic actually made a noticeable difference in your dog's digestion? How long did it take to see changes? (I know it's not overnight) Any issues with picky eaters refusing certain brands? My dog's not dealing with major health issues, just looking to help him feel better day-to-day. Appreciate any honest experiences—trying to figure out where to start. submitted by /u/ftrimbingvinkered to r/AskDogOwners [link] [comments]

How do you improve your dog's gut health? Looking for real probiotic reviews.
I have a large breed dog (a German Shepherd) with a sensitive stomach—he’s prone to occasional soft stools and seems to have digestive ups and downs. To make things trickier, he’s pretty picky about tastes and textures, so finding a supplement he’ll actually accept is my first challenge. Since he’s a big guy, I’m also keeping an eye out for options that offer good value in larger quantities for long-term use. I’ve been searching online and came across several popular brands like Purina FortiFlora, Zesty Paws, and PenPen (here’s a screenshot of a few I’m considering). With so many choices, it’s hard to decide. For those of you, especially large dog owners, who use probiotics: could you share your honest experience? Which brand has worked well for your dog’s digestion, and did your picky eater actually like the taste? submitted by /u/Sure-Forever6062 to r/AskDogOwners [link] [comments]

How do you get your picky dog to actually take probiotics?
I'm looking into starting probiotics for my dog, but I'm hitting a wall: my dog is incredibly picky. He turns his nose up at a lot of treats and even some foods if the texture or smell isn't just right. I've never given him probiotics before and I'm worried I'll buy a whole container only for him to refuse it. For those of you who give your dogs supplements like this, how do you get them to take it? Do you have a favorite method or a brand that's known for being palatable? I'd love any tips or tricks that have worked with your own finicky pups. submitted by /u/Few-Rice-8010 to r/AskDogOwners [link] [comments]

Can dog probiotics actually help with frequent loose stools? Need advice!
My 4-year-old dog has always had a sensitive stomach, leading to frequent soft stools or diarrhea. We've been to the vet, and while nothing seriously wrong was found, we haven't landed on a solution that works consistently. I've never tried probiotics before and feel a bit overwhelmed now. There are so many brands out there. After searching through reddit, I've seen a few names pop up like purina fortiflora, wuffes, pet honesty, nutramax, penpen, and native pet. It's hard to know how to choose—is it just about the CFU count, or are the specific strains and other ingredients (like enzymes or pumpkin) important? Also, my dog is pretty picky. I'm worried about buying a whole tub only for him to turn his nose up at it. Has anyone had success with a picky eater actually liking their probiotic? Any guidance on what to look for would be so appreciated submitted by /u/Independent-Talk72 to r/AskDogOwners [link] [comments]

Dogis is a sweet and gentle momma dog who was found caring for her newborn puppies and doing her very best despite difficult circumstances. On euthanasia list and needs placement by 1/13 11am‼️🆘
Rescue/Foster - NODAS MED - Needs Placement by 1/13/26 11an Dogis A1273648 1 year old Intact Female 44 pounds Heartworm Negative Puppies: A1273652, A1273654, A1273655, A1273656, A1273658, A1273659, A1273662 Stray found on 1/6 at RIVERWOOD RD, DALLAS TX 75217 Dogis is a sweet and gentle momma dog who was found caring for her newborn puppies and doing her very best despite difficult circumstances. She is currently suffering from severe generalized demodicosis, which has caused significant hair loss across her body and will require ongoing medical care and a calm, supportive environment. Dogis and her fragile little ones are urgently looking for a rescue or foster who can provide a safe place for her to heal and raise her puppies until they are strong enough and ready for adoption. Medical 01/06/26 Generalized erythema and alopecia/odor. Gave Bravecto and first dose of cefpo and probiotic. Gave Cytopoint. Demodex Overgrowth This dog was diagnosed with Demodex mites via a deep skin scrape or is highly suspicious for Demodex based on clinical presentation. Demodex mites are normal inhabitants of the skin but can overgrow in some dogs for various reasons, typically due to some degree of immunosuppression. It is most often seen in puppies who are slightly immunosuppressed simply due to their age. Demodex IS NOT contagious to people or other animals. No special cleaning or handling is required. Treatment as described below typically results in a cure and most dogs will not have a recurrence. This dog has received its first treatment of Bravecto (fluralaner). This medication is given every 4 weeks for 2-3 treatments to kill the mites and will also provide the monthly flea and tick control that is recommended for all dogs. Adopters should monitor for resolution of symptoms and regrowth of normal hair in the affected areas. Adopters should consult with their veterinarian to determine whether additional diagnostics and/or treatment are indicated. Repeat skin scrapings may be recommended, particularly if symptoms do not resolve. Shelter Observation 1/6/26: Met Dogis in the medical office. She was very sweet and eager for human interaction. She also clearly loves her babies and remained attentive to them throughout the interaction. What’s the best probiotics for dogs?
Update: Someone shared this post and I ended up trying Zesty Paws. Honestly they worked way better than I thought and his tummy’s been much better. Thanks everyone for the recs! https://www.reddit.com/r/DogAdvice/comments/1oxk2nn/whats_the_best_probiotics_for_dogs/ so my dog’s been having some digestive stuff going on the past couple weeks nothing crazy but his poops have been softer than normal and his stomach makes these gurgling sounds sometimes. gonna call the vet next week but figured I’d ask here first since you all usually have good recommendations has anyone used probiotics that actually helped? I’m kinda overwhelmed looking at all the options on chewy and amazon lol basically just want something that’s not gonna mess him up worse and is okay to give regularly. he’s got a sensitive stomach to begin with so yeah what brands do you swear by? or are there any I should stay away from? thanks in advance! submitted by /u/browperry89 to r/DogAdvice [link] [comments]

Genuine question: if G is allergic to the dogs, how would a probiotic help?
I’m not an allergy mom so I don’t know much, but Adelaide is saying that she thinks he may be allergic to the dogs now because he was fine when G was with her parents and then he came back home and his face flared up again. Then she said how she’s going to support his gut more and put him on a probiotic… but if he is actually allergic to dog hair, would a pre and probiotic even help? submitted by /u/Aware_Function_3165 to r/Adelaide_White_snark [link] [comments]

Vet said my dog is fat
Vet said my dog is fat while she was sedated, the last photo is her while laying down but the others show off her size much better. My dog is a 2 year old husky/treeing walker coonhound mix. She weighs 66.4lbs, walks about 3-5 miles per day as well as lots of zoomies around the house with her sister. She eats 4helath salmon and rice which is 398 kcal/cup. She eats two cups plus her probiotic and collagen support both together are 100 kcal. So 896 kcal a day. About three times a week she gets bulky stick time where she eats about 3 inches of a bully stick. So 40-65 kcal extra. Her food recommends I give her 3 1/3 cups for her size but I only give 2 because she is spayed and I know spayed dogs need less food, also because I give her the supplements which adds calories. The vet said considering “her size” I could probably give her about 50% of what she’s eating now or start a weight loss food. She is allergic to chicken, eggs, turkey and duck. She has a good tummy tuck, her ribs aren’t showing but you can feel them and she moves around very easily. From what I said- does it make sense to follow what the vet said? It dosen’t make sense to me. submitted by /u/Anon22002244 to r/DogAdvice [link] [comments]

Just went down an anti-pitbull rabbit hole on Reddit…
As a pit person, I’m sure you’ve all experienced the hate and prejudice. It’s so sad and frustrating to me. I understand that pits can do great damage but god damn. Anyway, here’s my girl, Olive. She’s 12 1/2. I found her on the side of the road when she was 1ish, and I was an 18-year-old white female living by myself in a sketchy apartment complex. Taking her with me everywhere made me feel safer because people were scared of her, but I also couldn’t understand why anyone would be. She has never been aggressive one singular time, unless you count her spitefully destroying the book I read instead of taking her to the park. Over the years I’ve had two children, adopted three cats, and gotten chickens and she has never once been mean. She gets jealous, and she shows it, but not mean or violent. When my oldest was born she made sure I knew how she felt, making eye contact with me while she casually knocked down my newly walking toddler (gently). I found it hilarious, and my toddler was unbothered, but Olive stared me straight in the eyes. I got on Reddit to look at pit bull posts because I know my time with her is limited these days, and was so sad to see all the hate. At 12 1/2 she has survived being hit by a car (when she was young) and in the last few years, a rattlesnake bite (we live in Texas), gum infection, and skin cancer. She’s had surgery twice for the gum infection and it’s been cleared, and had surgery three times for the cancer, and it seems to have finally stopped growing. I feed her Reishi capsules every day with her bougie Farmers Dog meals, and she gets daily senior dog treats with all kinds of goodies in them for her health, probiotics, and teeth cleaning treats. She still goes on 2-3 mile hikes regularly with me and is walked about a mile every day. She snuggles in bed with us every night and travels to go camping with us regularly. She just did her first road trip to Colorado in spring this year (14 hour drive) and want the biggest fan of the snow, but loved the mild weather on our mid day hikes, bouncing around like a puppy. submitted by /u/paintonallmyclothes to r/pitbulls [link] [comments]

Update on Violet, the starved abandoned pitbull
I tried commenting on the old post but it's so full many of you weren't seeing it. Violet has a number of things going on, so the vet said that her progress DEMANDS we go slow. Her psychological trauma is as bad or worse than the physical. We had to make a change of plans after she growled at the vet and all the techs. She was just super terrified of them hurting her. We spent over an hour of them just trying to get her comfortable enough to pet her. She had 2 jars of their treats. She is great with me, but I went through it too, and until she has a few days to get to know you, she doesn't trust anyone. I've not given her any reason to fear me and move slowly so she hasn't growled at me in a while. My vet said we will sedate her a bit on Monday and do the blood draw and fecal exam because she doesn't want to add to this extremely traumatized dog. Violet weighs 41.8 pounds, she's estimated to be under by between 20-30 pounds, vet said she wants her on this special food until she turns a corner and her stools firm up so she's put her on royal canine gastrointestinal dry food until then. She's on trazadone, gabipentin, Visbiome probiotic, doxycycline, and I have Sileo for the fireworks of needed. She had drontal wormer, and she got Nexguard for fleas and ticks. She has an upper respiratory infection. We go back on Monday with drugs in her system to make the scary things she's gotta go through a little more tolerable. Dr. Mitchell said someone beat her horribly to make her this scared. This wasn't just neglect or abandonment. This was extreme abuse. It's not like I didn't already know that, but hearing the confirmation of something so horrible you almost pray your wrong, doesn't make me feel better. It makes me hate whoever did it even more. She said she's not as bad as Bradshaw was but another few days, and she'd have definitely died. She's really worried about her being able to overcome the trauma and not be so reactive to people. I said it has been my experience that takes time and building trust with the animal. She says the key is figuring out what her triggers are and avoiding them as much as possible until we have a little more time with her. It's just very sad. She thinks Dr. Bill might even be worse, intimidating with his voice alone. Everyone agreed that was in the room that hands are her #1 fear. She believes every time you put your hand near her face, you are going to hit her. She loves to be pet so just imagine how confused she is. She's both terrified of being hit and yearning for your hands to pet her and love on her all at once so her brain overloads. Someone's warped that simple pleasure of hers. I have to figure out how to help her understand that she's not going to be hit ever again. I believe its going to take time and hopefully, she has plenty of it. I have added a few things to her Amazon list like a muzzle and thunder vest which I've heard may be necessary with her being so fearful. I don't have words to express gratitude for all the gifts, the vet bill credit, the gift card, etc... I've never had this type of help in my life unless my mom helped me. You guys have become as much of her pack as I have. I hope you know how much you are appreciated and I promise you that we will one day pay ot forward. I'll update again on Monday after the next visit. submitted by /u/NahNah-P to r/pitbulls [link] [comments]

RIP Baby Bear 🐻 ❤️ 🕊️
This is not something I wanted to have to think of ever so soon. Having just said goodbye my two other dogs earlier in the year, January and February, whom were 13 and 11. I wanted a rottie again. So the search began, where by the stars aligned and bear came into our lives beginning of April. Born on the 10th of Feb. Bear was the best thing I could’ve hoped for, another soul I could love unconditionally, forever. He was super smart. Picked everything up so fast and was growing quick! He had learnt sit, down, paw and almost stay. He was very quick to learn to go outside for his business and everything was going soo well. I was probably the happiest I’d been in a long time. Around the 9/10 week old mark was when the problems began. He was having stool issues and they were never formed. Always a soft toothpaste consistency. I immediately saw this and decided to introduce probiotics and change the food. I followed the 7-10 day transition process and tried 3 different foods. Steadily his stools became worse and I started to notice he wasn’t acting like a puppy. Wasn’t active, wasn’t gobbling up food, and sleeping (more than usual for a puppy). I then took him to the vets at 14 weeks were they collected a stool sample. Results came back positive for a parasite called cryptosporidium. But he only had antibodies so was safe to say he’d fought it off. He had slight temperatures and was a little dehydrated. We were giving him oralade, a hydration drink which is nutrient dense to replenish what he was loosing in watery stools. His stools had now gotten worse and I could see he was in discomfort, he hid his pain very well but I could tell he wasn’t ok. He went in to the royal veterinary college in the UK. The best of the best to give him the best treatment. He was put on iv fluids to bring up his hydration and he was again stable, watery stools but stable. He was then again tested and came back with another parasite called coccidiosis for which treatment began right away. He was now finished with his antibiotics course and another test confirmed he had fought it off. However the watery stools persisted. Now with no idea what to do the vet suggested a scan which showed his colon inflamed. Which would be considered a normal reaction given his body had been through two parasites and his gut had been through the trenches. He then went under a biopsy and it was found out that he had an antibiotic resistant bacteria in the lining of his colon. He was given more medication to help alleviate the inflammation and give his body the best chance to heal. This was beginning of last week. He was then switched onto a high fibre diet were he was making progress. The frequency at which he needed the toilet was reducing and there was a more consistent texture to stools. He plateaued so to give him that extra boost he was given FMT, fecal microbial transplant. Where by the feaces of a healthy dog are screened and the microbes are pumped into his digestive tract via enema. After that he woke up fine and was making progress. His stools were beginning to solidify. He was managing his own hydration so was weened off the iv fluids and he was eating. More active. All signs he was ready to come home. He was prepared to be discharged on Tuesday after 5 days of consistent good stools and signs of recovery. However Monday evening he relapsed. Overnight he had been dragged backwards. His hydration levels dropped. Watery, uncontrollable stools. And he had developed a heart arrhythmia. Tuesday morning I received a call telling me the news. I was devastated, heartbroken and just miserable. He was connected back to fluids. He was being given medication to stabilise his heart and probiotics. I went in to see him for the third time him being in hospital. And what I saw broke me. Shattered me into pieces. Immediately I dropped to my knees at what I saw, the state of my baby bear. I sat with him for two hours just holding him close. I noticed his gums weren’t pink and his legs were cold. His heart was giving out. Prior to me walking in the nurse had told me this morning he was miserable. They couldn’t even get a tail wag out of him, I barely got a tail wag out of him. It broke me to see him like this. It wasn’t what I wanted for him. By now all options had been taken, there was nothing more that could be done. I, along with my family had to make the heartbreaking decision to let him go. Bear fought on for 5 weeks in the hospital and with no sight of the way out I couldn’t let him suffer. It wasn’t right. My family gathered and stood beside him in a private room at the hospital and we spent a final hour with him. Fed him all the treats he never got to try. Everything he deserved. I knew it was the right choice. He was a fighter but even he had been through too much. His body had been through too much and wasn’t able to handle it anymore. It wasn’t what we or he wanted. I had planned out the best life for him. I was prepared to sacrifice so much to give him the best life. Although it wasn’t an easy ride, although it wasn’t the way I wanted it to be, I can say I gave him everything. I gave him every chance and opportunity to make things right for him. 20k in vet bills. But the almighty had other plans. The angels collected him last night were he will spend eternity with my other 2. Getting to live pain free. Getting to have the life he deserved. He was given a horrible start at life, dealt the worst possible hand. But didn’t give up. I believe everything happens for a reason. That he came into my life for a reason. He found us, we didn’t find him. We gave him the best. We gave him chances not many other would’ve given him. I know he’s sitting right beside me as I write this tears flowing down my face. In the short time he was with us on this world. I gave him everything and he gave it back to us. He was loved to the moon and back. And he knows it. He passed peacefully with us by his side and that’s all I could’ve asked for. His paws were huge. He would’ve been a BIG boy that’s for sure. This wansnt how it was meant to go but the way it did it was the best it could’ve gone. Nothing was skipped. I’m not here looking for anything, empathy or sympathy. Just here to share my love for Bear and share his story, he deserved to be known. Please hug your boys and girls for me. Give them everything now because you never know when they’ll be taken. 10th February 2025 - 26th June 2025 (19 weeks) RIP Baby Bear 🐻 🕊️ ❤️ Rest easy Boy, you’ll be remembered forever. Such a character and I’m glad I got to be the one to see it 🥹 submitted by /u/Baldskifuckedup to r/Rottweiler [link] [comments]

My husband’s bowels staged a coup after he tried to eat “clean” for three whole days
You know how some couples bond by working out together? Or meal prepping? Or doing morning walks? My husband and I bond by playing daily games of “what new food item will betray his digestive system today.” This week’s installment began when my husband (40M) decided he wanted to “clean up his gut.” Now, this is the same man who once deep-fried a Pop-Tart because he wanted to “experiment.” The same man who thought taking a fiber supplement and eating 20 chicken wings was "balance." So when he suddenly started Googling things like “gut health” and “low FODMAP recipes,” I got nervous. Real nervous. For three days straight, he only ate boiled veggies, brown rice, and something that vaguely resembled tofu but had the texture of a wet band-aid. Then he added a chia smoothie. Because why not throw a gallon of jelly seeds into a system already on strike? Fast forward to night three: We’re in bed. I’m half asleep. He turns to me and says, “Babe my insides feel like they’re gentrifying.” I ask what that even means. He responds by letting out a fart so long and complex it could have been an orchestral overture. I’m talking crescendo, movement changes, and a final brass section that set off the carbon monoxide detector. I left the room. The dog left the room. Even Alexa asked if we wanted to call emergency services. The next day, he started clutching his side like he was in a Shakespeare play and announced that he might have a twisted colon. Not a real diagnosis. Just vibes. So he goes to the gastroenterologist, and after several tests, scans, and what I assume was a high-stakes round of “Name That Smell,” they confirm: IBS. With Lactose Intolerance. And “mild food sensitivity to everything he loves.” Great. He comes home looking like he lost a custody battle with his own colon. But instead of being careful, he takes the new list of “safe foods” and decides that “moderation” is just a polite suggestion. He eats an entire tub of hummus, half a watermelon, and what I’m pretty sure was three servings of Brussels sprouts. All in one sitting. Like a goat. That night, he transformed into a sentient whoopee cushion. I had to Google “how to safely open windows during a storm” just to survive. At one point I honestly thought the walls were breathing. And then came The Great Yogurt Incident. I told him, kindly, to avoid dairy. He nodded. Smiled. Said “I got this.” Then I found him in the kitchen at 2am, double-fisting Greek yogurt and shredded cheddar cheese like some kind of protein goblin. He looked me in the eyes and said, “The probiotics cancel the dairy.” That’s not how science works. That’s not how anything works. Long story short: he’s now grounded from unsupervised grocery shopping, I’ve removed all dairy from the house, and he’s only allowed to have tofu if I’m watching. Also, the dog still won’t sleep in our room. He has PTSD from last Thursday’s cheddar hurricane. Marriage is beautiful. But sometimes it smells like death and poor decisions. submitted by /u/tulynx to r/stories [link] [comments]

How well do you know your dog probiotics??? Might be controversial (But the pet community need to know this)
Hi fellow dog parents! Just wanted to share something I recently learned that really made me rethink the probiotics I give my dog. Nag-try ako ng probiotics for our dog before when he had some problem sa digestion. I really don't check the label so I thought na baka ok lang. Then I came across a study by Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine na sabi daw na dogs actually need 1 to 10 billion CFUs per day for probiotics para maging effective. Turns out, most of the products sold online don’t even come close to that. May iba na only contain 500 million CFUs, and worse, some don’t list any CFU count at all - just vague "active ingredients." Medyo nakakagulat, ‘no? Also, CFUs daw naturally decrease over time, especially if the product isn't properly sealed. It's possible daw na it will affect the potency. Ngayon, I am trying to check probitics for dogs with considerations in mind. The CFU count (should be 1–10 billion per serving) If the strains are listed specifically (like Lactobacillus rhamnosus, not just “probiotic blend”) Chine-check ko din ang storage instructions and expiry date. I feel like this isn’t talked about enough in the pet community. Sayang din kasi if we’re giving our dogs something that isn’t really helping. Anyone else looked into this? Have you found any brands that are transparent with their labels and actually meet the right standards? Let’s help each other out. submitted by /u/mushishicoco to r/dogsofrph [link] [comments]

I love my dog down but she stinks so bad. I moved her to a raw food diet, took out all of her allergens (grain/chicken) give her probiotics and made her an allergy blend. I brush her daily and decoat every other day it seems. I spray her with nature cares cologne every time she enters the home. help

My dog is really skinny
Hi! Long time lurker first time poster. My dog is 15. I have known her since her birth. Within the past two years she is steadily losing weight. She used to be 65 pounds, now she is 55. The vet says she is ok, bloodwork is fine blah blah. Took her to another vet, same thing. 😤😤 they just say she is old. 😞☹️ But she is soooo skinny. I feed her 2.5 pounds of food a day. ( i weight it) plus treats and table scraps. She also requests treats and i give her more. If i give her too much food, throughout the day, she will vomit. I want to give her more, but her composition won’t allow it. I make her food, as she has alot of allergies. Her food consists of boiled quinoa with pork, i add fruit and vegetable powder, and a powder probiotic. Treats are sweet potato and chicken jerky, she has a daily skin coat vitamin supplements. She is HIGHLY allergic to any fish/shellfish. She drinks a mix of coconut water and water. Her coat, teeth, breath are beautiful. What do you recommend? submitted by /u/GroundbreakingToe315 to r/DogAdvice [link] [comments]

I just tried kimchi for the first time. Is it acceptable to just stand here eating it out of the jar like a savage or am I supposed to cook with it or something?
Edit: Sooooo, the amount of responses has been overwhelming. Today I tried a kimchi grilled cheese. It was good but didn't change my life. I also put it on a cracker with some peanut butter. It wasn't gross but it was alright. However, just eating it from the jar has changed my life. It was a revelation. I want to have some kimchi fried rice but my jar is pretty much gone. I see that I've opened a whole new world. I just stood in the asian grocery store and I saw what brand an asian person chose and I just chose that one. No regrets. This was the brand: https://www.seriouseats.com/images/20110304-kimchi-taste-test-bing-gre.jpg submitted by /u/BallsOfANinja to r/Cooking [link] [comments]
