I once watched a lady clean the bathroom. She pulled out the stopper in the sink and cleaned it with a toothbrush. It was amazing. Enjoy the vending machines, rest stops and ramen, and of course the toilets.

My bathroom sink drain recently decided it wants to stay closed. The lever that you pull/push to open/close the drain moves up and down, but the drain is unresponsive. I took a plunger to the drain and managed to suction it open, seems like it’s completely loose? The lever still has no response. I see it moving under the sink when I pull/push on it, but it has no effect on if the drain is open or closed anymore. Help? In doing so he hit the hot water pipe and it cracked super easily and is now leaking where it’s circled in the first picture. The stopper for my bathroom sink hasn’t been working well for months and the rod that lifts/lowers it finally broke. After losing an earring and the toothpaste cap down the open drain, I replaced the ball rod assembly for the drain stopper and liberated my stuff from the P-trap all my myself! My bathroom sink drain smells terrible (the guy who lived in my unit before me was a gross person apparently) and I’ve tried to clean it but the drain stopper won’t come out. I’ve stuck a thin brush down there and all sorts of hair and junk came out, but it doesn’t smell any better. Any tips on the best way to clean this? Especially sink I can’t get the stopper out without breaking it? Or maybe there’s a trick to get the stopper out that I don’t know of? Either way, I still need to clean it. It rotates about 30–40 degrees but won’t unscrew or pull out. There is no visible lift rod from below. Is this a clicker type or pivot rod type? Got a weird one. The sink 3/4 bath in my bedroom recently starting draining slowly. Like fills up while washing your hands, takes 30+ minutes to drain. I checked the trap and stopper, no issues. Doesn't drain even with the stopper out so I don't think it's a stopper issue. All the other drains in that bathroom work fine. No issues with the shower or toilet. I snaked the drain as far as my snake will go, 25'. No improvement at all. I should have been past any plumbing that's solely for the toilet right? Like at that point it should have all tied together? The sink doesn't have an overflow and there's no AAV under the sink, so I'm leaning towards a vent issue. I'm in military housing so I can put in a work order and get someone out to check it but that won't happen until Tuesday and either my wife or I have to take a day off for maintenance to come. My girlfriend facetimed me earlier and said that she pressed on the bathroom sink plunger really hard to let water escape (the plunger has always needed a lot of strength to open the stopper), in doing so, the rod that connect the clevis to the sink pipe has ripped out the t-piece of what I believe is called the p-trap. My question is, should I replace the entire p-trap unit or just patch up the hole with a piece of pipe and some pvc cement? Hi! I have a bathroom sink where I pulled the stick to close the drain & the stick came all the way out AFTER the drain was closed. I’ve tried putting the stick back but cannot find whatever position makes it function. I had to pry the drain open with a butter knife & currently have a screw keeping it open, I can only get about 1/4” of clearance. I’ve tried all manner of prying the drain stopper out, but it has zero extra give I ordered a replacement drain thingie but I need to remove the current drain plug first. So that’s my question- how do I do that?? I replaced the one in the other bathroom because the stopper was open, I could get it out (I included that pic as a reference for what’s going on in there. This house was built late 80’s, I don’t believe anything has been upgraded. I just need to get the stopper thing out. When I googled, everything said I needed to take the actual plumbing apart. before anyone says anything, yes i know i fucked up. i don't know what i was thinking keeping up this habit for weeks. basically, i live at home and feed my cat in my room upstairs. when id clean his bowl after, id let the scraps soak in water until they were rehydrated and easy to clean off, and then wash the bowl in the bathroom sink next to my room. the scraps would just go down the drain. i stopped doing this after realizing that's it's probably not the best idea, but by that point i began to notice the sink would occasionally take time to drain (photo 2; notice how the water pools over the drain stopper). when i first noticed it, after a few minutes of water running, it started draining again like normal (photo 3) but in the days since ive noticed it still doesn't fully drain immediately (i can explain further if this doesn't make sense). i think i realized this and stopped doing it at a good time, and i now know to only clean his bowls in the kitchen sink, but im worried there's a blockage in the drain from all the food that's already down there that needs to be addressed before it becomes something more serious. im picking up a drain snake from the store in a bit to try and fix it, but i wanted to hear from professionals: would that be enough? or would i need to go under the sink and open the pipes to clear it? and is that something i could even do, or do I need a plumber? submitted by /u/fancy-feaster to r/PlumbingRepair [link] [comments]

How many of you get work orders like this at 3pm on a Friday? “Quick bathroom sink stopper replacement,” Only to find the sink is partially rusted out… Ok, game on, buddy. I have replacement sinks on hand…Then of course the shut-offs don't work..ok punk, I have repair stops I can throw on, so I only have to cut water for 5 minutes…Argh, now that I cranked on those angle stops, they are leaking even if I try tightening them..ok now I'm getting pissed.. I guess I will replace them… No water for 20-30 min.. Also, whoever fixed it up after an apparent re-pipe must have run out of wood and found some scrap, some tape, and some tinfoil lol. Anyways, long story short, I replaced some angle stops and put the new sink on without caulking it, to take it back off Monday to start fixing this crap up 😞. Edit: problem solved!! Unscrewed the p trap and poked the plug with a stick from beneath. I also found two pairs of tweezers I'd misplaced! Thanks everyone for the help and suggestions!! Happened last night, but I had to go to bed. So, awhile ago, my mom had the plumbing redone on my house (late grandmother's, in her name, but I live there). This is important, because one of the things they were fixing was the ridiculously slow drainage of the bathroom sink. They finish, it's better - yay! But I start to notice it not draining well sometimes again. Hm. Plumber comes over (months later) for an unrelated issue, and I ask him about it. Turns out the problem was the stopper itself not leaving enough room for good drainage flow, so we just take it out. Easy peasy! This leaves the sink drain as just A Hole, with nothing to stop shit from falling in. I dropped a cap in there once and had to fish it out with chopsticks..... Last night! I'm cold, I'm sore, I wanna take a bath. I remove my various jewelry (lotsa rings, two sets of earrings) and put them on the sink counter and the shelf above. I have many cats, and I usually like to keep the bathroom door open while I'm in the bath; even more so this time because it's the first bath I've taken with the new kittens, and I think it'll be entertaining (it was lmao)! But I really don't want my jewelry to get knocked down the sink drain while I watch, helpless. I've still got the drain plug, so I put it back in to do its job and keep my stuff from being lost. I have my bath. Finish my bath. Etc etc. Now, I get out fully, and I'm at the sink to finish prepping for bed, so I need to take the plug out! Except instead, it fully plugs/sinks in. Okay.....I'll use the lever thingy on the tap. That. Isn't doing anything. Hm. Must've been disconnected or something when he took out the plug initially. Lemme try my nails GENTLY (as we say in the manicure subs, nails are jewels, not tools) aaaaand it's. Gone farther in. Tweezers? Nope, can't fit. I have nothing that can fit in the """gap""" to get the plug up and out of the drain. HM. WELL. I NEED TO GO TO BED. SO. ILL FIGURE IT OUT LATER. in the morning, I forget about it, and wash my hands after my morning bathroom break. So now there's water in the basin too. I'm still not sure how tf I'm gonna get it our, tbh - I'm thinking about looking for anything with suction cups in my house..... Tldr, I put the sink plug back in after removing it and it got stuck in the drain with no clear way to get it out. Hey everyone, I’ve got a bit of a design issue with my bathroom sink. The problem isn’t really a clog – the sink itself is just too flat and not sloped enough towards the drain. Because of that, water doesn’t flow out properly and whenever I shave, hair just sticks around in the basin instead of being rinsed away easily. The sink was installed by my dad, but we didn’t realize at the time that the design would cause this issue. Now I’m wondering if there’s any way to “hack” or modify the setup so the water and hair drain better without replacing the entire sink. Some ideas I thought about: • Changing the drain or stopper type? • Adding some kind of coating or treatment so things slide towards the drain more easily? I (25f) live with two other girls. A is 25 and C is 22. C has an entire floor to herself with a kitchenette so she doesn’t use the kitchen, fridge, or sink unless she’s cooking a major meal. So basically it’s just A and I sharing the kitchen and living room downstairs. She’s been living here for 10 months and I’ve been here for 2 years. We all have separate leases for our rooms and bathrooms. We did not know each other before moving in here. A doesn’t hang out in the living room so she doesn’t have to clean it but she does use the kitchen daily but also doesn’t clean that. She’s left her dishes for 7-10 days in the sink multiple times since moving in. I’ve never said anything because sometimes I leave mine for like 2-3 days and don’t want to be a hypocrite. But this summer the fruit flies are other worldly so I have been very strict with myself about not letting anything sit overnight because it grosses me out. I spent like $30 on those LED bug catchers and the fly tape to catch the bugs. I have attached pics of every text I’ve sent about it to the roommate group chat. I wish pictures could capture how bad the smell is with her dishes. It literally smells like ass in our downstairs when you walk in so I’ve been buying candles to try and cover it up because she literally won’t do her fucking dishes. Idk if it doesn’t bother her because she’s holed up in her from like 6pm to 8am and only comes out to trash the kitchen but it’s so fucking bad. My last straw was Thursday when I came downstairs after her shit sat in the sink for over a week and the sink stopper was FILLED with food and there was bullshit all over the walls of the sink. I was already irritated with her because of the trash thing I mentioned so I actually started tweaking. I deep cleaned the entire kitchen before I logged on for work and then texted the chat. In the 10 months she’s lived here, shes vacuumed and mopped once. She decided to announce she was deep cleaning over a weekend in December and then literally just mopped and vacuumed the common area. She’s never cleaned the stove off once. I do it every time. I once left the shit she got on the stove for a full week in hopes that she’d clean it and she didn’t. She leaves coffee stains on the counter and never cleans them up. She left her moving boxes in the dead center of the kitchen and living room area for months before I just moved them into the basement (I asked her multiple times to move them). This was all happening originally during the Philly trash strike, so that was also awful. When the trash finally got taken, the smell outside of our house was fucking horrendous. I took an hour and spent like $25 on fabuloso and some specific cleaner that works on concrete and scrubbed the sidewalk in front of our house with a broom until the smell was gone. I also ice and shovel in front of our house in the winter. I’m the only one who takes out the trash. I’m the only one who brings in the recycling bin in. You get the picture. If I do not do these things, no one will do them. Tonight I decided I can’t just be a keyboard warrior and text about it so in the most even tone I could muster I just said “can you please do your dishes tonight” and she said yes and slammed the door to her bedroom. It’s been 3 hours and the dishes are still in the sink and it’s 11pm where we are. What do we think the odds are they’re done before she leaves for work tomorrow? I know it sounds like nothing for me to ask her verbally, but when we’ve had convos about other minor issues in the past she blames whatever she did or didn’t do on being neurodivergent, having anxiety, and being depressed. I’m also anxious, depressed, and have adhd. I have never told her those things because they’re irrelevant 99% of the time because we do not interact. it’s so upsetting every time there’s an issue and she pulls that out. I literally spiral about the most minor interactions with her hours because she makes me so anxious. Would it be dramatic to involve the landlord? At this point it’s inhibiting my ability to use and enjoy the home and common areas, and we aren’t on the same lease so it feels less and less like a roommate conflict the more times it happens and more and more like it’s a lease violation on her part. I have 2 bathroom sinks with these pop-up stoppers that when pulled down still allow a tiny trickle to drain out of the sink when filled up. New construction and brand new sink, etc. I'm a handyman tasked with a punch list that includes making sure the bathroom sink stoppers in this house 100% stop water from draining down. We've failed an inspection twice because of these. I met the inspector and he filled the sinks up and watched them drain at a trickle's pace (like 5 minutes) and failed us. (I don't think it's a typical city code inspector. This is a special situation with a non-profit home builder that I think requires additional inspections.) The faucet is Delta but I think the drain assembly is some off brand. I tried replacing the stoppers with Danco and Delta replacements but they all still trickle, no matter how hard I push in the stopper. I also smeared a ton of silicone grease around the rubber washer and it didn't help. Any ideas? My next step is to just replace the entire drains, but we were trying to avoid that. And there's no guarantee those will work perfect. I swear I've never had one of these work perfectly at any place I've lived. Am I crazy that this is unrealistic?
