AITA for throwing away wrapped period products in a shared bathroom trash can?
I (15F) share a bathroom with my brother (17M) and sister (12F). We have a small trash can next to the toilet that everyone uses. When I’m on my period, I dispose of tampons and pads by wrapping them in toilet paper and putting them in the bathroom trash can. My brother recently told me this is gross and said I shouldn’t put them in the shared trash can because he doesn’t want to see or deal with them. I pointed out that they’re wrapped and that the bathroom trash can exists for bathroom waste. He disagreed and complained to our mom. My mom suggested that I throw period products away in my bedroom trash can instead. The problem is that my dog gets into my bedroom trash and will pull things out, so I’d rather use the bathroom trash can. My brother thinks it’s unreasonable for me to use the shared bathroom trash can for period products. I think it’s normal to dispose of wrapped period products in a bathroom trash can, especially in a shared bathroom. AITA? submitted by /u/Local-Ad-3924 to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]

I completely blocked the bathroom so I can do maintenance. Two people still dragged the trash can out of the way so they could enter and ask if they could use the bathroom.
The event is in a different wing of the school. It’s not like they even need to be over here, that’s why I was scheduled to work on this now. I was on a ladder trying to put a vent back on the ceiling. “Hey can I use this one??” Frustrating. submitted by /u/LesbianCowgirl- to r/mildlyinfuriating [link] [comments]

Found in my apartment bathroom
Currently renting this super old apartment short term and it has this in the bathroom. I recently discovered I could open it. I thought it was a trash can at first because it has this weird opening at the top but that doesn’t make sense. My mom told me it could be where you place an ironing board but what is that little slot opening for then. Any ideas ? Edit ; it is a build in laundry hamper ?!? Weird weird weird design and terrible ugly. I won’t be using it hahaha Edit pt 2; y’all im not in New York ! I’ve never seen one of these in my life. I tried to look it up but found nothing , the only “maybe” I found was a closet for ironing board but there isn’t one inside. All you negative Nancie’s talking about “how did you not know durrrrr dummy durrrr” I never saw it 🤣😂 that’s why I asked my Reddit friends and shoot I got my answer real quick 🫱🏼🫲🏻🫱🏼🫲🏻DURRRRR submitted by /u/Beginning_Capital_56 to r/whatisit [link] [comments]

ELI5: Why are airplane bathroom trash receptacles designed to involve so much skin contact?
There has to be a logical explanation for this, but I’m seeing nothing online… Question is simple. The vast, vast majority of airplane bathrooms, regardless of age of plane, use a spring-loaded trash can lid that will snap closed, usually clamping whatever it is that you’re trying to throw into it. I’ll usually walk into a plane bathroom and see that thing munching on whatever the last person attempted to throw into it. A tiny number of planes have a pedal system, but still to operate a spring-loaded lid. Now, on the ground, I feel like we’ve designed a bunch of functional trash cans. Whether that is a sensor-operated lid, a slower release system on the spring so that it takes longer to snap closed, a pedal, or even just no lid at all, I feel like we have a million ways we are able to dispose of trash more conveniently. Are there regulations or engineering constraints that make airplane trash cans work the way that they do? submitted by /u/ImBehindYou6755 to r/explainlikeimfive [link] [comments]

I lost my entire perfume collection in a bathroom flood, and I can’t stop crying
I had a major plumbing disaster in my bathroom. The whole place was flooded with foul, dirty water — even the cabinet under the sink, where all my treasures were neatly arranged. The plumbing team I hired did an excellent job; in just two days, they fixed everything, and now the bathroom looks beautiful again. But while they were cleaning up the damage, they threw away everything that had been inside those cabinets. Everything. All my perfumes ended up in the trash. And they’re gone forever. I lost my entire collection — my Frédéric Malles, my Nishanes, my État Libre d’Oranges, my Diptyques, my Serge Lutens, my Zoologists, and others I’d collected over the years. I’m sitting at home, numb, heartbroken, and crying. I also want to scream. I know they’re just objects, but to me they weren’t. I’m going through a difficult time, and that small ritual every morning — spraying myself with my ambers, musks, ouds, roses, irises, geraniums, pepper, and Rhino from Zoologist — was often the best moment of my day. Now it’s all gone, and it feels like I’ve lost a part of myself. ETA: I live in Poland. English is my second language. I can say I speak it quite well. But sometime I feel insecure so I write something and ask chatGPT to polish it. Especially since I sit here all cried out over something I cherished. I wanted to vent with community which understand that it’s not just buy perfumes but about story this perfumes tell. I can assure you ETA it’s written by me without AI help. Also Europe is slightly different when it comes to insurance law and what it covers. Thanks everyone for understanding and kind words it helps. I just ordered Wulóng Chá by Nishane. It was last perfume I bought and fall in love with it. submitted by /u/Fair_Photographer to r/fragrance [link] [comments]

How can I decorate this bathroom?
I am having trouble decorating this bathroom. The walls are black. I have some natural accents like the tray on the toilet, the trash can is a matching pair. Is putting used toilet paper in the trash can a ‘cultural’ thing?
I work in a smaller building, there is regularly only 3 employees. The company has recently began changing things, so we have 7 temporary employees that started here about 3 weeks ago. I am the only female in the building, and since it is a small building we all share the same single restroom and I am always the one the cleans the bathroom. Previously I only cleaned it once a work shift. Since the new 7 people have started, when I do my restroom cleanings, every time I enter the restroom there is poop in and on the trash can, on the toilet seat, and a few times it’s been found on sink handles and even on the mirror. I have been cleaning it multiple times a shift, every single shift the past few weeks but it is literally every time I enter the restroom. I spoke with my manager, simply asking if he could do a building meeting and bring it up, and he said ‘putting used toilet paper in the trash is a cultural thing’ that they tried to address it at a separate building (much much larger than my current building) because the janitors were complaining, and that it upset some of the workers because it is cultural, and isn’t something they should be forced to change. For info, the 7 new people are immigrants from Mexico, in the US through a separate company for work and none of them speak English, so I can’t just bring it up to them myself. (My manager is also Mexican, he speaks English and Spanish fluently) He is not regularly at the building, he visits for maybe 1 hour total each week. He still refuses to address this, and will not allow me and other permanent employees to leave the building to find a different cleaner restroom, which has led to me to start searching for a new job. But what I am asking is, is this situation actually a cultural thing? I’ve tried googling it and found nothing, and it’s making me feel like this is just a lie my manager told me and the couple other original employees so he can opt out of having to do or say anything submitted by /u/Illustrious-Job-8990 to r/NoStupidQuestions [link] [comments]

Little brown bags in the bathroom trash
Recently I was in a bathroom at a restaurant and there was a PSA on the door that said the little brown paper bags that line the trash in the stalls are suppose to be SINGLE USE and you should to throw them away in the larger trash can after your dispose of your tampon/pad/whatever inside. I was shocked. I’m 28 and I had no idea that was what you were supposed to do. Is this common knowledge? In 2005, an infant was found dead in a trash can at a Phoenix airport. She was given the nickname Baby Skylar by investigators. Her mother was just arrested for her murder.
Per the NYTimes- The dead baby girl was found in a trash bin in a women’s bathroom at main airport in Phoenix on Oct. 10, 2005. Wrapped in newspapers and a towel, the newborn had been stuffed into a plastic bag from a Marriott Hotel, the police said. Detectives immediately began investigating the death of the child, who came to be known as Baby Skylar. A medical examiner determined two days after the baby was found that she had been suffocated and was the victim of a homicide. But leads in the case eventually dried up, and the investigation remained dormant for years. On Tuesday, more than 18 years after the gruesome discovery at Terminal 4 of Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, the authorities announced at a news conference that they had identified and arrested the baby’s mother, Annie Anderson, 51, of Washington State, and that she would be charged with first-degree murder in the child’s death. Ms. Anderson was in custody in Washington on Tuesday, and was awaiting extradition to Maricopa County, Ariz., Lt. James Hester of the Phoenix Police Department said at the press conference. Among the few and early leads that the police had was the plastic bag in which the baby’s body had been found. That prompted detectives to investigate Marriott hotels in the Phoenix area, Lieutenant Hester said. But those leads and others proved unsuccessful. Then, in 2019, the Phoenix police partnered with the F.B.I. to use genetic genealogy, an emerging tool in solving cold cases, to look into the Baby Skylar mystery, Lieutenant Hester said. Dan Horan, a supervisory special agent with the F.B.I. field office in Phoenix, said at the news conference that the two agencies used a process known as investigative genetic genealogy, which uses existing D.N.A. evidence from an unknown person and tries to find family members based on publicly available genealogy databases. In doing that, the two agencies were able to find a possible relative of Baby Skylar. That relative, whom the authorities did not identify, agreed to share a sample of their D.N.A. with the authorities for one-time use, Agent Horan said. In January 2022, investigators traveled to Washington State, where they executed a search warrant and interviewed Ms. Anderson, the authorities said. Lieutenant Hester said that Ms. Anderson confirmed that she was the mother of Baby Skylar and gave the police an account of what had happened. “We have a dead child, we have an identified mother, and we have her statement,” Lieutenant Hester said. The authorities declined to share details of Ms. Anderson’s account. From the investigation, the authorities learned that Ms. Anderson was visiting Phoenix in October 2005 on business for a real estate boot camp, and that the child, most likely, was not born at the airport, Lieutenant Hester. It was not immediately clear on Tuesday whether Ms. Anderson had a lawyer. During the investigation, the authorities were also able to identify the baby’s father, and he was found to have no “criminal culpability,” Lieutenant Hester said. The authorities did not name the father. Sgt. Rob Scherer of the Phoenix Police Department said on Tuesday that the investigation “touched many people at many different levels of this department and beyond” and that it “will stick with a lot of officers that have been involved.” Link to article- https://www.nytimes.com/2024/02/20/us/baby-skylar-arrest-phoenix.html NBC news link (no paywall)- https://www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/rcna139622 submitted by /u/Andthatswhatsup to r/UnresolvedMysteries [link] [comments]

There are thousands of these very tiny bugs just crawling around on my trashcan lid that I keep inside my garage. There is no actual food in the can, it’s just a bin for random trash like paper or plastic. I sprayed them yesterday with raid but they did not die?! My location is south east Texas.

AITA for leaving my used tampons in the trash bin of the shared bathroom?
This is a repost. The original post is by u/chimneysweepy So my boyfriend and I own our own home and his best friend lives with us due to some personal issues with work and money so he doesn’t pay any rent or contribute money wise unless he buys a pack of sponges or some soap here and there. It’s totally not an issue, we have a large 3 bedroom for just the 2 of us. There’s a main bathroom and a master bathroom in our room. Friend stays in the room down the hall. All is well until he starts complaining to be about leaving my used tampons in the trash basket in the main bathroom. Mind you, I wrap them up in toilet paper and then tie them off in a tiny plastic bag first before I chuck them. They don’t really look like used tampons unless you went digging but I guess one bleed through the TP (still in the plastic sealed bag though) and he figured out what it was. He started complaining saying that it’s disgusting and unsanitary and that I have my own bathroom in my room I can leave them in. It’s true, but I really don’t use that bathroom unless I’m getting ready or at night. The main bathroom is larger and next to the living room. My rooms bathroom also doesn’t have a shower and I obviously take out a tampon before showering. I guess I can walk to my rooms bathroom but I just don’t bother and I guess thats where I feel like I’m being an asshole. It’s not like there’s a smell or anything though and I change the trash every couple of days. My boyfriend has been taking his side lately and said it’s not worth the trouble and I should just use our private bin but I feel like I shouldn’t have to do more work for someone who is a guest UPDATE I’m glad this nightmare is coming to an end. My boyfriend and I both owned our home 50/50 and his mooch best friend lived with us rent free. I made a post on AITA a while ago and explained the situation in more detail. I don’t know how to link, but it’s in my post history. His biggest issue with me was that I would throw away my wrapped (in tissue and a plastic bag to please him) tampons in the trash in the main bathroom where our shower is. He was disgusting with this and didn’t want to compromise like I tried doing. I even got a different trash can with a tight lid. (There was never any visible blood or smell) he didn’t care. He wanted me to use my private bathroom in my room. Because things like bleeding should be kept far away from him. I always changed a tampon before baths/showers and the main bathroom was more convenient where it’s located in the house. Why would I go through the trouble to go to my half bath in my room. It’s my house? He doesn’t pay rent. He’s a guest. Well my boyfriend took his side. His friend got worse and worse and became verbally abusive to me while my boyfriend watched and let it happen. He even tried to get him to kick me out of my own house. Well I told him it was either me or his friend but his friend couldn’t stay with us anymore. My boyfriend picked his friend and I ended the relationship. I told him that I’m putting the house for sale or I can buy him out. He couldn’t afford the house without me so yesterday I legally bought him out and I’m done with this headache. I can now dispose of my tampons however I wish. ❤️ Edit I’ve been getting a lot of messages saying that I threw my relationship away too quickly over this. If you feel that way, then you are welcomed to your opinion. Some things aren’t fixable to me and there’s no going back. To some it’s cheating or abuse. While there was no physical abuse my boyfriend watched me be verbally abused. I gave him a choice and he took it. I will not explain this again through pms. For those saying that I cleaned him out and was unfair during the split process- you only know a small part of my story guys. I spent a lot more money towards this house and I felt it was fair to keep it. I did not take it from him as some are saying. I paid for his half and paid him for a little equity. He agreed to the number. If he didn’t we would of sold the house. Also, I am not complaining about him taking our shared dishes. I was at work and when I came home 90% of my appliances and furniture was gone. My kitchen cabinets were empty, even all my baking stuff and he never baked. My couches were gone, lamps, etc. So I’m not being petty over a few items. I wouldn’t of minded him taking half of the stuff but it seems like they took items to just spite me. It was never my intention to not be fair with him or to bleed him dry. Edit #2 To all the threatening messages and garbage, you’re wasting your time. I really don’t care what an internet stranger has to say about my hygiene habits. Y’all keep making me stronger 💪🏻✌🏻 submitted by /u/SomaliMN to r/BestofRedditorUpdates [link] [comments]

TIFU by not closely inspecting the contents of my boyfriend’s trash can.
So my boyfriend (22M) and I (21F) stay at each other’s apartments. On this particular day, BF had to leave before me. So I’m getting ready, and I notice something in his bathroom trash can. A pad wrapper. Pink. I already got my period this month, and mine are blue. He doesn’t have any female family/friends in the area that I know of. So I’m panicking inside. All day. I go to class and then to work and come back to his place. We’re eating the dinner that I cooked for him, and all the while I’ve been thinking about how to confront him. When we finish eating, I calmly say, “Okay, look, I’m not accusing you of anything. But I saw something and I need an explanation.” I told him what I found this morning, and the fucker starts laughing. “Babe, go look at the shelf on top of my computer. No, seriously, go look.” I go into his room. He points to a canister on the shelf. I open it. Who the hell owns pink cleaning wipes? TL;DR thought I saw a pad wrapper in my boyfriend’s trash can but it was a cleaning wipe. ETA: We’ve had a talk about this obviously, and he says I handled it well and understands me. I know this is Reddit, but I’m in therapy so y’all can stop with the unsolicited advice and takes on our relationship. Thanks! submitted by /u/speechie_debater to r/tifu [link] [comments]

Jennifer Daugherty, 30-years-old. Pennsylvania woman goes missing after a sleepover. She is later found stuffed in a trash can, near a middle school parking lot. 6 people are arrested and charged with kidnapping her and torturing her to death.
Jennifer Daugherty, a 30-year-old woman, was found deceased on Feb. 11, 2010. Her body was found near the parking lot of Greensburg Salem Middle School, stuffed into a garbage can. On Feb. 10, 2010, Jennifer left her parent's house. She told her parents that she was going to a sleepover in Greensburg, PA. Jennifer had a doctor’s appointment in Greensburg scheduled for the next day; so she planned to sleepover at a friend’s apartment, then make her appointment and return home the next day. Her stepfather (Bobby Murphy) dropped her off at a bus station; Jennifer gave him a kiss and then she traveled to Greensburg by herself. No reasonable person could have expected that anything bad was going to happen. She left behind a note for her mother: “I hope that you will have a good day at work, and I also love you very much. I will talk to you sometime later.” According to her family, Jennifer was mentally equivalent to being 14 years old despite being 30. She lived in Mount Pleasant, but she frequently traveled to Greensburg by herself for dentist and counseling appointments. Her parents were pressuring her to move out and be more independent, despite her disability, something they later said they regretted. Jennifer Daugherty Still, Jennifer was excited that she’d soon be moving into her own apartment. She wrote on her Myspace profile: “This is my time to make a new start for myself, and making new friends and not being afraid of anything.” That would be Jennifer’s final message. In Greensburg, she'd made friends with a 17-year-old girl, Angela Marinucci. Angela and Jennifer would talk for hours over the phone, as though they were both teenagers, despite Jennifer technically being much older. Like Jennifer, Angela suffered from a disability. When Angela was 15, she’d suffered a traumatic head injury, dramatically changing the trajectory of Angela’s young life. The two women, Jennifer and Angela, appeared to be the best of friends. So when Angela invited Jennifer over for a sleepover, Jennifer eagerly accepted. However, when Jennifer arrived at the sleepover on Feb. 10, the evening quickly took a dark turn. There were six people in the apartment: Angela Marinucci, Peggy Miller, Amber Meidinger, Ricky Smyrnes, Melvin Knight, and Robert Masters. This group would eventually become known as the Greensburg 6. Jennifer had met most of them before and considered them to be her friends; she was technically the oldest person there. Jennifer Daugherty was killed inside this apartment. Soon after Jennifer arrived, the others began to bully her. The bullying escalated from simple heckling to aggravated assault to outright torture. The motive for this coordinated attack on Jennifer has always been unclear, but the most popular explanation seems to be that Jennifer had made some joke about having sex with Ricky Smyrnes, Angela’s boyfriend, and that Angela had a vengeful overreaction. That doesn't really make any sense to me, because why would the others go along with that? I definitely think Angela was involved but I don't think it was her idea to attack Jennifer. Another proposed explanation is that the torture was a hate crime, committed against Jennifer because of her mental disability. I tend to find that explanation far more convincing than the supposed love triangle between Smyrnes, Jennifer, and Angela. During a series of torture sessions that lasted for around 30 hours, Jennifer was forcibly stripped, raped, and severely beaten with a variety of household objects. Her head was shaved and her face was covered in nail polish. Spices were poured into her eyes to cause burning. Throughout this ordeal, she constantly asked why they were doing this to her and begged them to stop. She was also tied up with Christmas lights and forced to pose as a demented Christmas tree. Neighbors later testified that they heard screaming coming from the apartment. The murder of Jennifer Daugherty caused an uproar amongst the community. “The plan was we were trying to embarrass her, humiliate her, make her feel belittled,” Amber Meidinger later testified. The torture was occasionally interrupted by "family meetings" where the others would decide what to do to her next. During these meetings, Jennifer was left tied up and gagged in a closet. At some point, Jennifer tried to fight back. She kicked Amber hard in the stomach. Amber then claimed that she was pregnant. Melvin then told Jennifer that anybody who kicks a pregnant lady in the stomach deserves to die. As punishment for kicking Amber, Jennifer was forced to consume urine, feces, and detergent. Jennifer’s sister (Joy Burkholder) attempted to call her at some point during this time, only to find that Jennifer’s voicemail had mysteriously been changed to: "You've reached the phone of Melvin and Amber." At the final “family meeting” the group unanimously voted to kill Jennifer, reasoning that if she weren’t killed then she’d tell others about the torture. Knight and Ricky Smyrnes marched her to the bathroom, and Knight stabbed her over 20 times. But when they checked on her later, they found her still alive, still clinging to life after all the abuse she’d endured. Melvin and Ricky responded by slicing her wrists and then strangling her to make certain she was truly dead. Angela Marinucci, Melvin Knight Melvin and Ricky then placed Jennifer inside a trash bag, which in turn was placed inside a trash can. The trash can was then taken out to Greensburg Salem Middle School, where it was hidden underneath a truck. The owner of the truck found the body and called 911 early the next morning. Jennifer’s mother (Denise Murphy) was brought in to identify the body. “I was in total shock, and still in total denial. I just couldn’t imagine how that could happen to her,” Murphy later said. Angela Marinucci and the others were quickly arrested. Prosecutors announced they would seek the death penalty against Amber Meidinger, Ricky Smyrnes, and Melvin Knight. However, Amber was eventually allowed to plead guilty to lesser charges in exchange for testifying against the others. It should also be noted that Amber was pregnant from Melvin at the time of her arrest; she gave birth in jail, and the infant was apparently given to a foster family. Meidinger spoke slowly and deliberately throughout her testimony, frequently pausing to wipe tears from her eyes. Jennifer Daugherty Unlike the others, neither Peggy Miller nor Robert Masters was ever accused of participating in the actual torture or killing of Jennifer Daugherty. Neither of them ever actually touched or hurt Jennifer. However, under Pennsylvania law, they could still be charged with murder. Peggy later expressed regret for her role in the murder: “I am sorry and I am guilty,” Miller said. “She was my friend, and I should not have voted for her to die.” At one point during the night of torture, Jennifer was left alone in the apartment with Peggy and Robert while the others went out to get food. She begged them to help her and they refused. Ultimately, Ricky Smyrnes and Melvin Knight were sentenced to death. However, the state of Pennsylvania has not executed any person since 1999. Peggy Miller, Amber Meidinger, and Robert Masters were all given lengthy prison sentences. They will eventually be eligible for parole, but they’ll have to wait a very long time for that. Robert will be eligible for parole after serving 30 years, Peggy after 35 years, and Amber after 40 years. However, Amber Meidinger recently applied for a pardon, so we’ll see how that goes. submitted by /u/Wonderful-Variation to r/TrueCrime [link] [comments]

“If it’s not *in* my garbage can don’t throw it away!!!!!!” Okay, Karen. I guess I’ll leave all of the trash you throw around on the floor as well
This happened before I graduated college. I was working a part time housekeeping job for a doctor’s office after closing. The most annoying thing was the blatant disregard from the people who worked there. In particular, the women at the front portions of the office would throw trash everywhere and not put it in the can. Under their desk, the floor would be covered in trash (right around the trash can!) and most of the time I wouldn’t even have to change the garbage bag, just dump the very few pieces that managed to get in the can and then literally crawl around under the desk on my hands and knees, picking up all their shit. I’m talking paper thrown everywhere, old folders they’d clean out from closets, candy wrappers, tuna cans (you’re eating TUNA in an OFFICE?) and thousands of peanut shells. To name a few. They just didn’t care. The amount of lazy you have to be to throw garbage right beside the can and not in it astounds me. I never complained to anyone about it because even though it pissed me off, I figured it was less effort to just pick it up. That is, until I got a note. A very passive aggressive note from a particular messy woman, letting me know I threw her calendar away and why would I ever do such a thing? Pic: https://i.imgur.com/eWaOZel.jpg 1: the calendar was propped up against her garbage can. That’s usually the universal sign of “hey, this needs to be thrown away” and they threw stuff like that away all the time, why put it there if it isn’t trash? 2: there’s so much garbage all under your desk every single night, how am I supposed to know when something isn’t trash? 3: it isn’t my job to determine what is and what isn’t to be thrown away. It was my bad that I threw the calendar away because I didn’t pay attention to the dates or anything on it (like I said, there’s always shit everywhere) but when I got this note, I was pissed. The NERVE, after I spend so much unnecessary time cleaning up garbage that YOU can’t be bothered to actually put in your trash cans because you’re too lazy? Fine. “If its not in my can, don’t touch it!!” You got it! I won’t touch anything that isn’t in your garbage can. I left everything that was on the floor exactly where it was and just changed the bags. Needless to say, she didn’t like that, and complained to my supervisor. My response was, “but I was just doing exactly what she told me to do shrug” My petty ass was pleased Edited to say: My supervisor told the office manager that if they wanted their trash taken out, then they were to put it in the trash can. Otherwise, nothing would be thrown away, with the exception of boxes labeled “trash” that were too big for cans submitted by /u/hey_yah1 to r/MaliciousCompliance [link] [comments]

YSK having a garbage bin in your guest bathroom can save your female visitors from a lot of discomfort.
I have noticed that many of my male friends who are either gay or single don't have garbage bins in their half bathrooms. This can make it very awkward for a female on their period. Either they have to try and wrap up feminine hygiene products in toilet paper and carry it around your house searching for another garbage or awkwardly stash it in their purse. It's 20 times more awkward if this happens during a party when you have a lot of people around. I've also had this problem before when visiting older women who don't need a garbage can for their own personal use anymore so men aren't the only culprits. So please consider that your guests might actually need and appreciate a small garbage can in the toilet area. submitted by /u/unwritten_otter to r/YouShouldKnow [link] [comments]
