AITA for showering around midnight when I know that it might bother the neighbour who wakes up at 5 am?
We purchased a home and moved in recently. Housing opportunities are tight in our area so even though we were warned that the walls are very thin and the neighbours hear a lot of noise from the apartment, especially from the bathroom, we still chose this property because everything else is picture perfect for us. We are generally a very quiet couple without kids or animals, our hobbies (bead work, video games on headphones without streaming, reading, Netflix…) are generally quite and we only invite friends over every 2-4 weeks (and we haven’t invited anyone over as we were still decorating and everything). We are the owners of the apartment. The neighbours are a couple and a small kid. They rent the apartment next to us and before we purchased the home they warned us that they generally hear a lot of noise coming from our bathroom and that it’s their bedroom on the other side. But as I mentioned, our options were limited and given that we are not noisy at all, we thought we can take this situation. We sometimes hear their toddler, but that completely okay, it doesn’t bother us at all. The problem is that we bother them as our routine is very different. They wake up at 5 am and generally quite down at 8 pm, when the kid goes to sleep. On the other hand, because I work from home until 7 pm, I generally start my evening around 8 pm and only end up showering around midnight. Which bothers them. The whole building is quiet, so they tend to hear how I put my stuff down, how the water runs, how I sometimes drop a few things, and mentioned it very nicely a few times. But I can see that they are pretty annoyed. Now I’m torn between switching up my whole nighttime routine to shower first (which just doesn’t sit right with me. I like to go bed freshly showered), because they asked nicely and they wake up around 5 am so it must be annoying to get woken up at midnight. On the other hand, they only rent wile we own the home, and I think we are generally very good and quite neighbours apart from the fact that I shower late. They invited us over the listen to the volume as to be honest it’s not that loud… sure, you can hear something and it must feel louder in the silence of the night, but it’s not incredibly loud. Just finished this bathroom wall upgrade
Just finished this bathroom wall upgrade and it means more to me than I expected. Last year was really tough, had to leave my parents’ house and start over, and it’s been slow rebuilding my space and myself. Doing small things like this has helped me feel a sense of control again, and this peel-and-stick wallpaper from Jovorie.com made it easier to bring the space together. I got the plant from IKEA and a few of the small decor pieces from Target, which really helped warm it up. Feels awesome to make something by myself. submitted by /u/gracekathryn31 to r/BathroomRemodeling [link] [comments]

Help w/ Bathroom Decor
I posted on a different a few months back asking for help with my bathroom. Photos 1 & 2 are the "after", photos 3 & 4 are the "before". Very happy with how it turned out, from a layout perspective, and just waiting for the shower doors to be installed. But now I'm kind of lost on what to do for colors/design/decor. The vanity is a beautiful dark green (which you unfortunately can't even tell) and with the white walls the whole room looks pretty sterile right now. I don't know what colors to bring in or what decor I can add to keep it interesting and make it inviting. Shelves at "face height" on the left wall aren't a great idea because anyone entering the bathroom would walk right into them. In terms of preferred style, would like to take it in either Victorian gothic or alt direction (for example I have a large illustration of a tattooed cat I've been saving to put in this bathroom) Would appreciate any suggestions - thanks! submitted by /u/Ok_Airline1337 to r/interiordecorating [link] [comments]

Converted part of my house into a little apartment to Airbnb. I spend 30 mins cleaning between guests and that’s it
I have a home in sw Florida and after my divorce I paid off my ex wife with a second mortgage. Between that and alimony I was drowning. The kitchen opened up into a converted garage that had a second fridge, sink and little Shower/toilet bathroom. I built a wall and door to seal it off, I’m not a handy man but wasn’t that hard to to do. Then I added a Murphy bed, some decor and a TV and put it on Airbnb. Been sold out for three months straight since then and completely covering my alimony. I suspect it’s gonna slow down after season which ends in April/may but it’s the easiest money I’ve ever made. submitted by /u/DrLeoMarvin to r/passive_income [link] [comments]

LPT: Almost Free Way to Insulate Windows
Don't laugh. Clear Bubble Wrap will make a decent multi-pane window out of a drafty single pane. It lets virtually all the natural light in and can be done neatly. Not to mention - it is a privacy shield that lets all the light in. Not to mention the other thing - if your heat does not leave via those windows, neither will your cash. Use clear packing tape to join 2 or three lengths of bubble wrap - whatever it takes to make a rectangle big enough to cover the window or its enclosure. Then tape it to the wall/frame and make sure it is taped shut on all 4 sides. That little piece of bubble wrap saved us (and years later, our son). It lets the light in, but each air bubble is real insulation. It made the bathroom habitable in the morning. Cheap. Even free if you collect bubble wrap and already have tape. Granted, it is not high-end decor, but with care and a curtain, it passes very well. submitted by /u/waynek57 to r/LifeProTips [link] [comments]

Father in Law flew in to re-tile our bathroom
My Father in law graciously agreed to come visit us and tile our whole bathroom. He was actually pretty excited to do it. He's retired now, but was a career tiler in France. It took him 5 days total. The board, waterproofing and scratch coat were already done. He spent his first day leveling the waterproofing and complaining and commenting on how poor our construction methods are in Canada :) He only used a few spacers where he really needed too, the rest was all by eye and feel. He reeeaaally didn't like the sigma cutter I got for him until we realized we could reverse the handle then it was ok. He cut all the large tile with my small grinder, and scored and broke a lot of the green with nippers. We feel like he did an amazing job. Wanted to share, hope you like it! EDIT: Thanks for all the positive replies! I'll make sure to let him know even more than we already did! This project has been such a journey it feels great to see it at this stage after so long. At first I thought about trying the tile myself, but the chance of me getting remotely close to this on a first attempt is actually negative. Gotta respect the pros. I did the planning, demo, drywall, paint, trim, and final installs and I had a local contractor do the framing, boarding and waterproofing along the way This started as a 70s era decor POS bathroom, with glass block party walls, glass block shower surround and 3 layers of stacked flooring. There was a bit of a leak through the party wall.. and next thing we knew we were down to joists and studs. I think they started calling me glass block dude at the dump after the 5th trip or so. This bathroom is on the 3rd floor of our house with pretty steep narrow stairs, and all my tools are in the basement of course so my calves are still recovering. My wife chose all the design aspects, my only contribution to that was the green wall paint instead of white and picking the toilet. This green tile seems really popular right now and I can see why, it looks even better close up in person. We debated cream or grey for grout but picked bright white and love it P.S thanks for no one mentioning the trim I still haven't painted. submitted by /u/vladicov to r/Tile [link] [comments]

AITAH for calling my wife a slob and demanding she clean before I come home?
I (30M) just came back from a nearly 6-month deployment. I’ve been married to my wife (29F) for 2 years. This is the longest deployment I've had since we've lived together. No kids, but we do have a few pets. I bought the house we live in before we got married, and before I left, it was clean and in great condition. When I walked through the door, it was like stepping into one of those hoarder show houses. I wish I was kidding. This is not an exaggeration. In fact, it's probably not descriptive enough. The master bathroom had black mold on the walls. The sink and shower were caked with soap scum, hair everywhere, trash covering the floor — we’re talking used tissues, used pads, makeup packaging, all just strewn round. The toilet…I won’t even describe the toilet. The bedroom had waist-high piles of clothes, papers, and god knows what lining two walls. The carpet was completely covered in pet hair. I saw little moths flying around that looked like the kind that eat fabric and hair. The living room wasn’t dirty as much as it was piled with clutter - unopened shopping bags, decorations from last Halloween and Christmas still out, tons of random stuff she clearly bought but never put away. And the kitchen...the smell hit me before I even walked in. Both sinks were full of dirty dishes with some kind of black sludge coating the bottom. The fridge was packed, but mostly with expired and rotting food. There were 2 casserole dishes filled with what I can only describe as pure mold. Based on what I found, the food in those dishes had been sitting there since before I left in January. I completely lost it. I yelled. A lot. I called her names, because honestly, what kind of person lets things get this bad? It felt like coming home to a house abandoned by squatters. I told her she had one week to clean the entire house and return it to the condition it was in before I deployed or I’d be filing for divorce. Then I left. I'm staying with a friend. This guy is not easy to live with. He’s loud, way too talkative, and messy in his own way, but even his place is paradise compared to what I walked into. My wife cried and begged me to stay. She said I was being unfair, and that I just “left her here to deal with everything.” But I don’t understand. What everything? We have no kids. She works a normal job and comes home. That’s it. No night shifts, no 80-hour weeks, no caretaking responsibilities. What else was there for her to deal with? What could possibly be taking up so much of her time and energy that basic tasks like throwing away used tissues, washing dishes, or taking out the trash couldn’t be done? She told me I needed to help her because it was “our mess,” but I’ve been gone for over five months. She claims that I didn't understand how hard it was for her while I was gone. I didn’t make any of that mess. I’ve been deployed and working my ass off and the house I paid for was trashed while I was away. Is there something I really don't understand here? submitted by /u/ExpressRatio922 to r/AITAH [link] [comments]

Help! Wall color to make bathroom slightly less obnoxious.
My rental discovered mold and had to redo the entire shower/tub tile. Unfortunately, they went off the wall, and completely against the conversation we had, and somehow landed on this ridiculous white subway tiling (I was out of town and they didn’t run it by me 🤦‍♂️). They agreed it looks terrible, but refused to redo the tile because “it has to be streamlined with other units” (which is BS). In any case, their only offer was to paint the wall behind the tile a color of my choosing. I have no idea what could help salvage it, any thoughts? The previous tile was a match to the floor. I had a lot of forest green, black, and beige decor. I generally like darker, more serene colors. submitted by /u/jwpfeiff to r/DesignMyRoom [link] [comments]

How can I decorate this bathroom?
I am having trouble decorating this bathroom. The walls are black. I have some natural accents like the tray on the toilet, the trash can is a matching pair. I also have some good accents like the thing above the toilet and the shower rod. I’m having a hard time finding a good accent color and sticking to it. The rug on the ground is white. submitted by /u/SweatyTruck8394 to r/HomeDecorating [link] [comments]

Would you change the wall color in our bathroom?
My husband and I recently remodeled our bathroom and we’re getting ready to finish up the last steps of installing the toilet and picking out a countertop. Before we tiled the floor, we painted the walls Urbane Bronze by SW. i was hoping it would pull more brown in our room, but instead it looks more gray than I’d like. I mean, I like the color, but I wonder if everything is a bit too colorless and neutral. I was wondering in you all had any ideas on how and where to add color into this room? Would you repaint, and if so, what color? Any other color palette or decor suggestions? Thanks for your ideas! submitted by /u/GroovyGerbers to r/HomeDecorating [link] [comments]

At my wit’s end. My son suddenly won’t go in his room but won’t tell us why
I am not The OOP, OOP is u/bananaburps At my wit’s end. My son suddenly won’t go in his room but won’t tell us why Originally posted to r/Mommit Thanks to u/female_wolf for suggesting this BoRU Original Post July 20, 2024 We moved into a new house about a year ago so that my son (who turns 4 next month) can have his own room. We thought the transition would be rough but he took to his room almost immediately and have had no issues. He loved his room, has all his toys in there, bedtime routines went smoothly. Most nights he dozes off after a couple of stories and a smooch on the head. He has his nightlights and we keep his door open, even though he never mentioned being scared of the dark. Something changed on July 4th. He spent a good chunk of the afternoon playing in his room, even refusing to come downstairs for a bit. That same night and every night since, he refuses to go into his room at all, insisting on sleeping in our room. He won’t go in with us holding hands, and if we’re able to get him in for a second to retrieve a specific toy, he won’t go all the way in and then immediately run away back down the hall. He has no problem taking a bath in his bathroom across the hall, but he insists we keep the bathroom door closed. Then he runs straight from the bathroom to our room. We have asked him in all sorts of ways why he doesn’t want to go in his room, and he’ll deflect either by screaming COW BOY HAT (a la muffin) or giggle while naming every animal he can think of. We’re guessing he had a nightmare at some point, but he did spend the afternoon in his room with no problem on the day this started. We’re not getting anywhere here, and as a result I’ve been sleeping in his room while he shares our bed with my husband. Maybe I’m looking for someone who had a similar experience with their child that can offer up some fresh ideas, or maybe I’m just venting because I miss my bed. Argh. Edit 7/23: thank you so much for all of your great responses, ideas and stories!! I think I may have cracked the case here but now I have to figure out how to go about it. I was just grabbing something in his room around 3pm today and heard what was definitely an animal scurrying on the roof! Probably a squirrel. We have a metal roof and an exposed beam ceiling so we hear any drop of rain, but I have never until now heard an animal. This would make sense as to why he sometimes keeps naming animals in his room! Now if I’m right I just have to figure out how to go about this… RELEVANT COMMENTS HoneyNo8465 My guess is he’s either scared or ashamed. Could be fireworks like others are mentioning or it could be really silly. Hopefully not a ghost. I’m thinking like he pooped in the closet, had a potty accident, vomited, broke, or spilled something. Have you torn the room apart to make sure nothing is different about it? OOP My perception is that he seems more scared than ashamed. I’ve been sleeping in his room every night and checked every single corner, nothing out of the ordinary. I don’t think it’s the fireworks because there were no fireworks going on in the early afternoon when he was actually in his room, and either way he enjoys fireworks so much. We stayed outside all evening and watching them in both the front and back of the house. I’ve kept his room as normal and welcoming as possible especially when he’s taking a bath, he might crane his head around the corner to get a peek of his room but ultimately turn and run. We managed a few times to get him to walk a few steps in and grab a specific toy he wanted, but then he bolted. Update Aug 8, 2024 (19 days later) After exactly one month, I finally figured it out! I’ve been busy but wanted to update because I still am so stoked he’s back in his room. A few days ago, I got my son to acknowledge a couple of his toys from the doorway, and he stepped in a little bit with encouragement. I then took the opportunity to point at objects in his room and he had a huge reaction to a marvel poster that had been hanging over his bed since we moved in a year ago. He ran to our bedroom and hid under our covers, so I took it off the wall and walked it through the hallway. I stopped at our room for confirmation and he freaked out when he saw I was holding it. I told him that it’s going in the garbage and he’s never going to see it ever again. I hid it downstairs for later disposal, came back upstairs and told him it was gone. He leapt out of our bed and hurried down the hall to his room and jumped in excitement that “EVIL FACE IS GONE!!!” He then screamed in excitement about his Mario kart bed, tossed my pillow off, threw his Mario pillow on and tucked himself in! I was so ecstatic I danced around with him the rest of the night singing “NO MORE EVIL FACE”. We played with all the toys he missed He slept in his room that night and has since been spending even more time in his room playing by himself. He brings up nightly that evil face is gone and his room is fun. To those who are curious, it was a marvel framed poster with like 100+ superheroes and villains. He had always named even some of the more obscure characters (my husband is a comic book guy and passed on this knowledge). Im not sure which character scared him in particular but I theorize it was either m.o.d.o.k. Or ego the living planet. I didn’t stop to have him point out which was the evil face. RELEVANT COMMENTS What the poster looked like A picture of the poster, 100 Marvel characters charmander_ann I knew it!!! Yes, Ego and M.O.D.O.K have very evil faces! Another contender could be Armin Zola OOP That one too but I couldn’t remember his name 😆 tbh when my husband put it up, I felt like one day he would be scared of some of the sinister faces on it, but it just didn’t click since it had always been there ~ cokakatta When my son was a baby I put mickey mouse and friends wall stickers near his changing table. He got terrified of their eyes or something and I had to remove them. When he was a preschooler, I bought him pajamas that had a polar bear face on them and its eyes were angled and fierce looking. He was scared of it. I took a sharpie and rounded the polar bear's eyes and brought his eyebrows out and down to look kinder. I was proud of myself for that one. OOP Yup, I think it’s best to stay away from eyes and front-facing heads for decor. He still has his big Mario movie poster with Mario and Luigi but their heads are turned so it’s not so aggressive. Plus he loves Mario and Luigi and they’re so the opposite of scary. AITA for telling my girlfriend her home decor is the reason I won’t host a work gathering at her place.
I’ve (M32) been with my girlfriend (F29) for over a year now. She’s smart, funny, a bit quirky, and has a serious job with a good salary. We have a great time together and generally get along very well. The only thing is her choice in home ‘decor’ is bizarre, to put it frankly, and not something you think a normal, grown adult would be into. Her apartment is definitely a reflection of herself and interests. Not in the best way though. My girlfriend has wall dedicated to animation in one room of her apartment, like Futurama pieces and etchings of some weird triangle guy. Then there’s the wall of framed preserved insects in another room. But not insects like butterflies or moths. Instead she displays tarantulas, beetles, and large stick insects. Her bathroom has a subtle theme of the ocean-pretty common. But instead of starfish or shells, she has a little anglerfish nightlight, a small vampiric squid painting, and then a framed diagram of what apparently is a Goblin Shark right by the toilet. I would say a majority of her home decor and furnishings are okay. The apartment itself is very modern and sleek. It’s just the random decor and juvenile-ish themes like cartoons, insects, and bizarre ocean creatures, is off putting. This is where I might be the AH. I avoid bringing people over to her place, especially people from my job, because of how juvenile it looks. Everyone’s impressed when they see the high rise, but that quickly fades once you enter. The one time I brought a work colleague over they ended up telling me after that they found her insect wall terrifying. I work in finance and appearances and first impressions are important. My office will hold casual gatherings where we get together for a few drinks, good food, and we rotate hosts. And this time, it’s my turn. The problem is my place is under some construction and not an ideal place to be right now, so I’ve been staying with my girlfriend. My girlfriend suggested that we host my colleagues here since she has the space and thinks it’ll be fun. I told her I planned on skipping my rotation and seeing if the next person would be okay with hosting early. She kept pressing on why I didn’t want them over here, so I finally said it’s because her home decor is strange and not something a grown woman would have, and also that her insect wall horrified the one colleague that did come over. My girlfriend got mad and said at the end of the day, it’s not my space and these things bring her joy. She also said that she is indeed an adult woman, which is exactly why her apartment is decorated in such a manner. I love my girlfriend, I do. And it’s okay to have different interests. But does an adult really need to decorate with them besides a few things here and there? I mean, my own mother asked if my girlfriend was autistic after she saw the entire apartment for the first time. AITA for telling my Stepmom that I won’t give up my room so her daughter can have it?
So I (f16) live with my dad since he and my mom split up and just recently he got married to Kelly. Kelly has a daughter (13) and a son (9) and they just moved in with us. My dad and I house has four rooms the master bedroom has a bathroom inside of it and my room is just a little smaller but it also has a bathroom in the room too. Then there are the other two rooms that don’t have a bathroom but have walk-in closets, unlike mine. All of the rooms have beds and dressers you know all the stuff that makes a room a room without the personal decorations that you choose. When they came to move in her daughter ran straight past one of the vacant rooms and into mine. My walls are purple and I have Marvel and DC posters hanging up on the wall I also have a mirror attached to my dresser with lights around it. So once I showed her son to the room he would be sleeping in I went into my room and saw her bringing her stuff into my room and so I told her that this isn’t her room and that she has one of the rooms with no decorations. She immediately started flipping out she started yelling saying she was gonna tell her mom and my dad that I’m being mean to her and trying to bully her because she was younger. Her mom and my dad came into the room due to all the yelling and asked what was going on and so I told them that she thinks my room is hers and she won’t leave but she said that this has to be her room because it’s her favorite color purple and it has a bathroom so it has to be hers. My dad explained to her that she can get her room painted whatever color u want and we can get u the poster and pictures she wanted also but she said she doesn’t want a room that doesn’t have a bathroom so this one should be hers. Her mom ended up agreeing with her saying that I have had this room for a very long time and can just restart in the other room and I should give it to her since she’s younger. So I told her that I won’t give up my room because this has all my stuff and I’m comfortable in my room so her daughter will have to go to the other only available room. She is saying that I’m being rude and mean to my new little sister and should be reasonable and give her my room and be the bigger person and act my age and not a little kid. So am I the AH? Edit: I see a lot of people asking how my dad feels and what is his opinion on this and he said that I can choose to do whatever because it’s my room and I’m old enough to talk for myself. Update: Since my dad said that I can do whatever and it’s my choice after school my dad took me to Home Depot to get one of those doorknobs that you can only unlock with a key. Kelly is super angry with my dad since he took me to go get a new doorknob and she trying to say that since I have a bathroom to myself her daughter should be able to have the upstairs bathroom all to herself and her son can have the bathroom downstairs to himself, but my dad shut that down because we have family who visits but she is saying that her kids should have a bathroom that’s all theirs and my dad said he would think about it and he hasn’t told me his decision so I don’t know. submitted by /u/Sleepy_allthetime55 to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]

AITA for keeping my One Direction bathroom decor?
Lurker/Throwaway/Mobile My husband (48M) and I (46F) have 2 sons (16M) and (14M). We recently moved into a house which has 3 bathrooms. Our sons’ bedrooms are on the main floor which has a full bathroom. I’ve decorated it in neutral colors and it is simple and functional. The upper level has an en-suite full bathroom. It is also decorated in neutral colors and is also simple/minimalist. I don’t keep my hair or makeup stuff in this bathroom as I don’t wear much of it and have it in our bedroom. We have a finished basement which has a smaller bathroom. It doesn’t have a bath, but has a sink, shower and toilet. It’s not even that small, but it’s smaller than the other 2. Our kids are both in high school, remote for the entire year. My husband works full time. I have been an at-home mom for years and as such, I do all of the cleaning, cooking and shopping. Our sons do most of the outdoor chores such as lawn mowing and snow blowing. No family is without dysfunction, but we all get along well and practice kindness and respect. We feel so lucky to have awesome kids. Out of all of us, I spend the most time in the basement as our laundry room and crafting room is down there. The largest room down there has a large TV, comfy couches and a gaming system. Our kids mostly game on their computers in their rooms, but the basement TV and Xbox is still used by all of us. I decorated the small bathroom just to my own tastes for the first time ever. I’ve painted it pink and it’s got cream and grey decor with pink lights and a pink rug. Here’s the problem: I am a hardcore One Direction fan and I’m not embarrassed to admit it. So I’ve decorated this bathroom with framed posters of 1D and have added lots of other memorabilia such as a signed and framed photo of Harry, and a hook with my 1D bathrobe on it. I have a few “Smells Like Harry Styles” candles on a shelf, along with the band’s autobiography. My favorite framed poster (the band wearing all black) is on the wall directly above the toilet. I have a 1D mug for toothbrushes, a pink tray with the collection of the 1D “Our Moment” perfumes and some bobbleheads. I have lots more stuff on the walls. My husband is mildly amused but not upset about this, but our kids are actually upset about it. They are mortified by it and want me to at least remove all the 1D merch but keep the pink if I must. Though we are still keeping to our safety pods, they both have gf’s and 1 friend each that are also in the pod. This is the first time we’ve ever had a major disagreement in our family. The basement is where the kids and their friends & gfs hang out when they’re here. AITA if I insist upon keeping my 1D bathroom? I honestly don’t think so at all and am so surprised by our boys’ extreme reactions. My oldest recommended I ask here. submitted by /u/Throwitawaynow4646 to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]
