Looking for a battery charger that actually charges dead batteries.
In the days of "smart" chargers, nothing I own will actually charge a truly dead battery. Before you roast me, I get it, I know I need to replace the battery but in the meantime, I need to move the dang car. As of now my solutions are to jump it, or use a spare battery connected to the charger with jumper cables from the cheater battery to the one I'm actually wanting to charge. It works but it's annoying. Is there anywhere I can still buy an old style charger or a smart charger that will actually charge a really dead battery? submitted by /u/AcreMakeover to r/carquestions [link] [comments]

Bought a used car on HP, car needs a new battery (£1000 from BMW) Dealer is saying they'll only agree to it if I change my review!
Ridiculous situation I'd love some insight on. I bought a 2020 M8 from a dealer around 3 hours away from me. On the test drive it flagged the battery needed replacing, was told it would be sorted. Picked it up a week later, as we get in to drive home, comes up again. We wait an hour for it to be "replaced", 30 mins into our drive it comes up again. I have ISTA (bmw dealer software) and looking at the battery confirms it was never changed, just put on battery repair mode on a charger which obviously can only do so much. Doesn't start with a lot of gusto as it's clearly a degraded battery. That was 31st January. I called daily, emailed my sales guy, every time I was fobbed off. So I get the managers email, send an official complaint. Nothing. So I left a pretty arsy review. Suddenly they start replying! Now they claim they never said they would replace the battery, I said well I need it done as I've already cancelled one work conference for fear of it dying fully while parked for 2 days and that from BMW main dealer it would be around 1000 with a negative cable replacement (as its corroded). Nothing for a week. Now they say they'll agree to it only if I change my review first. My understanding was they've sold me a car with a fault, had one chance to repair it in my ownership and really should have to pay for a proper fix. Reception staff told me I should just take it to kwik fit as they don't really need to be coded to the car! Told him where to stick that. Any advice on getting them to actually do their obligations? Is there a legal route to force it? Tempted to change it and then change it back when it's done! And ask my immediate family to leave similar reviews for a bit of extra malicious compliance EDIT: They're not a brand dealer, just a generic and don't have ISTA themselves from what I can gather so couldn't do it themselves submitted by /u/Historical_Switch_21 to r/CarTalkUK [link] [comments]

After Installing an Ev charger at home, I’ve began to love my car.
I’ve had mine (2025 Premium w/ extended battery) for a bit over two months now, the first month and a half I relied on fast chargers, the closest being 15 miles away.… Stupidly I did little to no research before getting the car so I was unaware that cold temperature and driving uphill affects the range. I have a 120mile round trip commute to work four times a week, meaning I had to stop by the fast chargers after every other shift hoping they worked/ were available, praying the cable was long enough since apparently mine is delicate and refuses to charge if it isn’t inserted perfectly. If it wasn’t I would have to pay again, resulting in more money being on hold for a couple business days. But it’s ok now, I decided to stop being cheap and have one installed. Let me tell you…. I should have done this from the start. Now it charges while I sleep (10% an hour up to 80%) so I no longer have to plan my days around charging my car. My rants over, if you’re thinking of getting a Mach E, try to have one installed within the week. (Saw someone on here say that it should charge to 100% once a month and today was that day for me, I normally don’t charge past 80%) submitted by /u/Odd_Holiday_9816 to r/MachE [link] [comments]

Is it true I need a trickle charger to charge a fully dead car battery instead of jumpstarting and driving?
Im just wondering because my second vehicle was fully dead yesterday to the point where the key fob wouldn’t work. My self jumper with boost mode worked to start it and only drove it 15 minutes and figured it would be enough to at least get the battery started on its own again for the next day. After I exited the car the key fob still didn’t work and car wouldn’t start. This time there were more lights present on the dash though. Am I doing damage to the alternator this way or do I just need to drive it more next time I jump it? Should I buy a car battery charger?
I’m debating buying a car battery charger. I just bought my first car. I love to sit in it and listen to music. I want this car to last forever because it’s a Beetle and Beetles are awesome. we all know that having the car only half-on (without the engine&alternator running and idling) will at least allow you to listen to music. It’ll also only drain the battery, correct? Nothing else gets harmed by it? So, if I get a car battery charger, technically I can sit in my car and listen to music for as long as I want!!!!!!! I wouldn’t have to worry about wrecking my engine by idling it OR burning a ton of gas! An engine is way more costly than a battery. I could just make sure to not FULLY charge the battery (since I’ve heard that’s bad for batteries) and I’ll make sure to not let it die. Is this a good idea? Why or why not? submitted by /u/ElvisHuxley to r/askcarguys [link] [comments]

Not using the car often enough - Is trickle charger recomended?
Hi so I got a Camry 2011 sitting in parking garage out of sun and rain, however I don't drive often, I use grab for commuting and the car for family trips which happen once per 1-3 weeks. Yesterday my battery went dead (no light was left on), took it to a mechanic and he said the battery is shot, jump start would only turn the car on (engine running) but it will turn off right after. So I had to replace the battery. Now my question is: if my driving habit remains unchaged, it's likely that the new battery also will go bad after sometime (1-2 years?), I googled a bit and came accross trickle charger as a solution. The problem is the tricker charger is about as expensive as my car battery (~100$). Is it worth to invest into it? Or leave it as is and replace the car battery once it is dead? submitted by /u/talawas to r/MechanicAdvice [link] [comments]

If you can only get a level one charger, it’s still worth it to get an electric car?
I’m mostly curious because I would only be able to use a level one charger because I’m in an apartment but it has a plug in my parking spot that I am allowed to use. However, I don’t think the apartment would allow me to upgrade it to a level two. I can charge at work for free on a level two. However, if you’re talking to people at work, they all tell me not to rely on work to make sure I can charge on my own outside of work. So if I only have a level one, is there an issue with Me only charging let’s say 45 miles a day or is that gonna be bad for the battery just go 45 miles up and then 35 miles down and then so and so forth If I plug it in every day, is that bad? The other thing too is that I would most likely have this vehicle on a le ase so maybe I don’t really care if the battery goes bad since I’m only gonna have it for 2 to 3 years submitted by /u/WiggWamm to r/electricvehicles [link] [comments]

So I live in a wonderful mixed use building, and it’s been great. Lovely amenities and decent tenants and even free electric car charging! This was simple and easy for the last two years and out of nowhere more and more Tesla people moved in, bringing their swasticars with them. And it’s like oh okay, it’s like 20 EV’s sharing four chargers, no biggie, cuz most tenants respect the building’s 4-hour limit rule, which should bother no rational person that understands not everything is about them. However Tesla drivers are a different breed, and a few of them think that those rules don’t apply to them, whether it’s because they have a bigger car or they have kids or whatever excuse they have for hogging the chargers day and night whenever they can. Yeah yeah they have bigger batteries and need longer charging…but 4hr limit is 4hr limit. It wouldn’t be fair if someone in an on-site laundromat hogged all the washers and dryers all day long, would it? Who gives a shit their reasons for hogging the chargers. But wait this gets interesting. So recently the guest level parking charger stopped working. Something wrong nobody can get it to work. Now we’re down to the one downstairs and that’s it. Remember each charger has two points so it’s now two charging cables for over 20 EV’s, and some malicious Tesla drivers among them. I decide to leave a note one night on the charger itself because of said malicious Tesla driver decided to charge both their cars the entire afternoon into the evening taking up all the chargers, which others of need to use to get to our jobs and whatnot. It simply said the 4 hour limit applies to everyone. However the next morning I went to charge and found the note ripped up with a portion left with a reply written: “SAY IT TO MY FACE”. And since then it’s just been a race to the chargers before 4pm to avoid the greedy Teslas who come and take them the whole afternoon and night. Sometimes they win, sometimes the rest of us do. More recently someone else left a note as well addressing their behavior saying “please consider other drivers need to use these too” and the reply left on it was “I saw you on my cameras lmao I won’t consider shit!” So I took this up to the top. I took that note, and the photos of my ripped up note, and sent them not only to the property manager, but to the regional manager for the property management company itself, who have many more buildings throughout the country. They got back to me and I informed them that not only was this charger not working and this hogging was happening, which was of mild concern, but then I decided to use my nuclear option and told them that their EV chargers hadn’t been charging anyone any money. This really got their attention and I find out that they are about to replace these chargers entirely with new updated ChargePoint Chargers that will start charging tenants money after four hours. Even it’s the customary $3-4 per hour, this will add up for the teslas hogging the chargers all day and overnight. Now you might be thinking this will affect me too, but my partner and I are DINKs first of all, but also, my EV doesn’t take long, it’s tiny. I only need at most like 3.5 hours to charge to full usually. Basically unless I’m an inconsiderate asshole, I won’t get charged ever. TLDR Tesla drivers being Tesla drivers at my apartment, I get apartment to start charging money for the previously free EV charging. submitted by /u/darling_darcy to r/pettyrevenge [link] [comments]

Unpopular opinion but wireless chargers in cars are useless
They’re just phone heaters and most of the time you won’t be driving long enough to get more than 5% of extra charge so other than basically cooking the battery, it’s useless so I don’t get why people keep complaining when a car doesn’t come with a wireless charger submitted by /u/Seanwys to r/BMW [link] [comments]

Car battery charger recommendation?
I'm looking at the Noco Genius 5 amp charger. Will that high an amperage shorten my battery life and would a lower amperage be a better choice for that reason? Do you have any other chargers that you'd recommend? submitted by /u/SeriousButNotOverly to r/Tools [link] [comments]

TIFU by exploding a car battery in my laundry room
Truly a tifu, as I was dealing with the aftermath this morning at around 1:30AM. Let's set the stage, shall we? Towards the end of the summer my boat would no longer hold a charge on it's battery. Thinking the battery was the problem I pulled it out and replaced it with a new one. That one lasted about a week, so I tracked the problem down to a corroded wire on the motor. Problem solved, old battery left as backup in the garage. Fast forward to late October, start bringing stuff in before the cold hits. Batteries always go down to the laundry room for trickle-charging during the winter. Seeing how the charging circuit was faulty I figured I would put the old battery back in rotation for charging. Its turn came due about 2 days ago. Clamp the leads onto the terminals, show a good draw on the meter, away it goes. So that brings us to this morning. I get roused from bed by the smoke detector downstairs. Start running around assessing each room and stop at the laundry room door. That's where I was greeted by a cloud of toxic gas. About a quarter of the top of the battery had blow off, as well as a good chunk in the front, where it was drooling black fluid. After running around opening windows to clear it out I got down to the task of clean-up, which at this point was a surprisingly small amount of acid on the wall behind the battery, and a little on the bench and floor. Here's where the tifu multiplies. At this point I had been cleaning up in my boxer briefs and bare feet. I grab the battery by the handle, lift it slightly to make sure it will hold, and then swing it around and down to my side. This is when the one side of the battery decides to let go and splash the rest of its contents onto my leg and the floor. Again, boxer briefs and that's it. After a little bit of freaking out (and ow, ow), I got the acid rinsed off and finished the rest of the clean-up still in my briefs, but now sporting a pair of rubber boots. TLDR: I exploded a battery in my laundry room at 130am and tried to clean it up wearing only my boxers. Edit: missed some details on the battery explosion.
