We’ve been having issues with two roommates for a while. Our pettiness has reached a new level this week. One of the girls has claimed ownership of a tiny space of the kitchen worktop (conveniently right next to where we have our kitchen utensils OFC). We’d left out our toastie maker FOR AN HOUR (to cool down). She freaked out. Anyway since the concept of things being on “her” worktop is so distressing for her… we’ve decided we should politely confiscate our kettle from the kitchen. She 1000% uses it literally all the time, but we wouldn’t wanna upset the poor girl by putting things on “HER” worktop would we? Anyway we’ve gone full Monty. We have set up the kettle in our room, bought those little hotel milk things, brought in the sugar and the mugs and all the sugar / tea from the kitchen. It basically feels like it’s a little hotel set up (mwhahah). All of my grandparents have passed in the last few years, so I’ve been helping clean their houses out. So many treasures no one wanted; I definitely did not have room for bedroom sets but they were just too special to pass up, so we moved a lot of things around to Make it work. This set is now in my bedroom; it’s in amazing shape. I am pretty sure it was a wedding gift to them when they got married. After trying everything to deal with my husband’s snoring, we tried earplugs, white noise and nudging him all night, nothing works, so we finally accepted that sleeping in separate rooms just works better for us. So I set up this small room as my own sleep space. Nothing fancy — kept it pretty simple and calm, mostly neutral colors, soft lighting, and just the basics. Honestly, the biggest goal was just to make it feel quiet and relaxing. Not gonna lie, my sleep has been so much better since. What do y’all think? I love everything except for the carpet. I just got the desk yesterday and set it up. I found it at an estate sale for only $150 and it matches my bed setup perfectly. The reason it’s so close to the bed is because I have large closet doors and that’s the closest it can get to them before they hit the desk. I’m also unsure if I should add more artwork or posters on the left wall with the mirror on it. I got lucky and ran into a very well off person who is selling all their furniture from one of their 2.5M+ homes. I got this whole bedroom set for $1500. It’s indestructible and gorgeous burled solid hardwood with barely any use. The movers almost killed me for having them get it up the stairs (they got a 40% tip). It took three guys and they barely made it. Lo and behold, when I went to put my underwear in it today… it’s… it’s a Trump Home branded furniture set ☠️☠️☠️ So. Anyway. If you’re looking for solid wood furniture that’s much prettier than the Amish stuff from Pennsylvania that I almost bought… you might be able to thrift some of this stuff. We are in the process of getting all new furniture for our bedroom. I have been eyeing some bedroom sets but wondering what the consensus is on doing that as opposed to buying individual pieces? I saw a comment that someone thought a set typically looks kind of cheap so just looking for some thoughts! I recently bought a king bedroom set with the additional chest drawer and bed frame & mattress for almost 9K. I really love the set but with the hefty price tag I got to wondering what others have spent in terms of bedroom sets. I hope it lasts a long time but it’s veneer so I’m not really sure. I (28f) am married to Nick (30m). I work from home and earn significantly more then Nick, as he decided to pursue his education and is currently in apprenticeship. The house where we live is my parents old 4 bedroom house which was gifted to me when I turned 18 as they had to move in with my nan due to her health back then. Now they have her house which is significantly bigger. After the sale and before meeting Nick I have done a full renovation for it to look more modern. Currently me and Nick have joined savings for a new/better house and I have also got a decent amount that I saved myself. As the house is a gift and mortgage free, we only pay the bills, which allows us to save more. In no way or form we are struggling for money and are still able to afford holidays and such. Now Nick came from a large family and since the lock down ended (about a year ago) they started coming to see us and stay over every other week. It got to the point where I feel cramped in my own house due to how many people there are and due to how much space they take. Sometimes they overstay their welcome making it nearly impossible for me to work or concentrate on my hobbies. I'm not mentioning the amount of cooking and tidying up when they are staying or after they left. After they left last time I have decided I have enough, took some time off work and converted the smaller bedroom into an office/gaming room which also has a library space and a cozy sofa for me to chill. I finished soundproofing it just before this weekend. Nick noticed my workstation has gone but haven't asked anything. Last weekend my in laws came in again and I have told Nick some will have to book a hotel as we don't have space. That's when he saw my office. Him and his family got upset and they decided to stay at the hotel instead and it was godsent to be able to relax in my own house for once over the weekend. I was able to catch up with some work too. Yesterday after they left Nick called me an asshole for setting an office and not telling him anything. He also demanded I need to return to my previous arrangement and convert it back into the bedroom. I have reminded him I work from home and need a quiet space to work, as well as its my parents house and he has never asked me if I'm okay with his family being over so much. Nick has been sleeping in one of the spare bedrooms and stopped talking to me as apparently I have coessed the line and an asshole for saying that about his family. AITA? Edit: realised I have forgotten to add some pieces. Just after the lock down ended I have told nick I will be converting one of the bedrooms into an office space, that's when his family started coming over. I have told him that they are too much and need to cut down on visits or have us to visit them but it was met with "they are family!". After they left I'm dealing with all the cleaning after them. The door to the spare bedroom was open so Nick could clearly see I was doing something there. As he didn't say anything I have assumed he remembered my plans and was okay with it. Hell he even complimented the sofa there! Edit 2: Someone has advised to add this. The normal visiting bunch are my MIL, FIL, and 6 underage (under 18) siblings (17yo male twins, 16 yo daughter, 15 yo son, and 12 yo female twins). He has over 18 siblings too who visit but normally they stay Thursday to Monday and it is normally one or 2 at the time. My wife and I are looking to get a new bedroom set including a king bed frame (headboard and footboard), two night stands, and a couple of chest-of-drawers/dressers. I want quality, solid wood construction in a farmhouse style. Drawer storage under the bed would be a huge plus. Price-wise, I'm willing to pay several thousand as long as the set will last a lifetime.
