In search of kid friendly recipes please!
I am NOT OOP, OOP is u/Crinni_Boo Originally posted to r/Cooking In search of kid friendly recipes please! Mood Spoilers: wholesome! Original Post: April 28, 2026 So I’m a stepmom to a 12, almost 13 year old boy and would like to get him in the kitchen more with me (my husband and I have every recipe we’ve ever made together archived in a recipe box which we plan on leaving to him one day). I would love to hear everyone’s go to recipes or kid safe / kid friendly ones (I’m happy to do the chopping but if there’s recipes that don’t need knives at all that would be great too!) Thank you all in advance!! Editor's note: OOP received lots of responses, listing some comments supporting OOP and stepson Some Relevant / Best Comments Commenter 1: Get the Betty Crocker Boys and Girls Cookbook! My mom had it as a kid, and I had it as a kid as well. Tons of easy recipes that don't involve dangerous kitchen equipment. Plus, that meatloaf recipe is the GOAT. Commenter 2: And start with his favorite foods. That will help to keep him interested. Commenter 3: He is 12 - an adolescent, not a young child. Unless there is a disability you have not mentioned, he should have the manual dexterity and language comprehension to be able to make anything in your box, especially with your assistance. He almost certainly already understands that stoves are hot, knives are sharp, glass and ceramic are breakable, etc., and can probably already see over the top of the stove without needing a stool- which are the main concerns for small children. Start him with super simple things that are forgiving with respect to exact measures, timing, etc. Spaghetti with (jarred) sauce and meatballs with a garden salad. Roasted chicken pieces with baked potatoes and sauteed vegetables. Grilled cheese and a can of soup. Then do a stew or braise- paprikash or stroganoff or chicken and dumplings or even chili: something where he sees that "4 hours" cooking time isn't necessarily 4 hours spent in the kitchen. OOP: Thank you for the ideas! He’s not disabled but neither my husband nor his bio mom are super keen on the knife thing just yet (he does have a tendency to get distracted as we all do) so I just don’t want to cross any boundaries with them Commenter 4: Find out what he wants to make and start from there. Commenter 5: Good for you for trying to get him in the kitchen. Both my boys learned to cook, and their spouses have appreciated it. Also good for you for respecting his dad and bio mom’s wishes. This way of thinking will make his and your life so much more pleasant. It also shows him respect. Great job Bonus Mom! OOP: Thank you!! It’s an important skill to have; I spent a ton of time in the kitchen with my grandmother growing up- I couldn’t wait to do stuff on my own 🤣 and thank you, we prefer as much peace as possible when it comes to that! 🤣 granted I love cooking but I’m not gonna be coming over to make him dinner every night once he’s on his own, ya know? Commenter 6: Take him shopping, let him pick something new to try, and find a recipe to make it or watch a video together to find out how to prepare it. That really gets kids interested in food and cooking OOP: We used to go to a fancier grocery store and pick a bunch of weird fruits to try and get a little something nice for Dad when he gets home from work - we could definitely start that up again! Commenter 7: You could have him pick a few key ingredients he enjoys and would like to work with and then find recipe options from there. Getting him involved in the whole process from the start can make it feel more like his meal than just following someone else's instructions. Commenter 8: Ours like to try recipes from cookbooks that are themed after their favorite shows and games! Commenter 9: At that age, there's nothing he can't do. Best way to get him engaged is have a night that's "his" - he chooses the recipe (have a few recipes already picked out for him to choose from), and does all the cooking (with a little help from you, of course). For my boys, pizza, tacos, and anything with potatoes was always a sure-fire way to get them in the kitchen :) I saw further down that knife skills are an issue, so get one of those kitchen choppers to help with the chopping and dicing. OOP: Thank you very much! I don’t expect him to have the same passion in the kitchen as I do so I suuuuuuper appreciate you sharing a way to keep him interested as well! Commenter 10: Your local library probably has a few kids cookbooks. I loved checking them out as a kid and getting to make a few things. And they are likely to be written in simple to follow steps, with instructions to get an adult to help with more dangerous steps. Update: May 24, 2026 (nearly one month later) UPDATE!! So I’m the stepmom who was looking for recipes a little while back to teach her 12 (almost 13) year old stepson how to cook and I have fantastic news! We had him for some time over Mother’s Day weekend and we made strudels together! He’s a natural in the kitchen and I could not be prouder 🥹. We’ve been very busy this weekend too! So far he’s learned how to make grilled cheese, watermelon soda, coconut milk fudge-sicles, burgers and corn on the cob! I showed him around the kitchen, taught him to never be afraid of any kitchen tool no matter how dangerous it seems - just appreciate what it can do, respect it and just be careful. I said, “For example - the blender has super sharp blades to blend whatever you put in it. I know those blades could hurt me if I touch them - I respect the blender is gonna use those blades to blend and do what I need it to do for my recipe. I am just careful not to touch them - a little common sense will keep you out of most trouble.” He said “Oh, I have plenty of that” - perfect! 🤷♀️ He looked at our veggie chopper and said he was looking forward to using that soon. I said, “well I’m always looking for new recipes to make so today won’t be the last day we cook together” and he said, “I hope not, this is so much fun!!” 🥹. He requested we make a cherry pie together today since “I see we have pie crust mix and cherries”. Am I the proudest stepmom in the universe rn? 😭 Nobody will ever tell me otherwise!! ALSO - bio parents agreed to nylon safety knives thanks to some suggestions I read on my last post, so he got to try out the set we bought him. He felt like a big deal having his own stuff and used it like he was born to do so! I told him in between weekends that he’s here try to think of recipes he’d like to try or that he wants me to teach him. I feel like this is the start of something beautiful and my heart is gonna burst with pride 🥰 I admittedly got a little misty eyed watching him chop up the watermelon with little to no guidance - I just told him to cut the green parts off and he went to town. ALSO (part 2) - I had a legend planner cookbook notebook thing in the kitchen that I’d never used so I started a food diary for him for when he gets older. I wrote down all the funny things we talked about or that happened while we made the recipes together and I’m putting them in the order we made them / marking them with the date. I might only be stepmom, but I’ll be damned if he’s not gonna be able to eat well! Editor's note: OOP has received lots of positive comments, listing some relevant comments Relevant Comments Commenter 1: You sound like a great stepmom. Very nice post. OOP: Thank you! I didn’t know he would take such a shine to it but I’m in my absolute glory 🤣🥰 for Xmas he got me a travel mug that says “best bonus mom ever”- gotta fulfill 🤣🤷♀️. Commenter 2: This post made me just smile, and smile, and smile some more! You are a great step-mom, for sure. These moments will last well into that child's adult life. I'd be bursting with pride for him, too! OOP: I’m glad I could make yall smile!! 🥹 As a stepmom sometimes I feel more like a grandparent or fun aunt than a “real” parent, so I try to think of what my grandmothers taught me growing up. My dad’s mom and I were always in the kitchen together or playing animal crossing on GameCube then only stopping to cook together 🤣🥰 I’d like to think she would be proud of him too 🥹 To say I spent my first official Mother’s Day making strudels with my stepson- I always dreamed of something like this with him and to see him be such a natural at it just holy shit!! 🤣. Commenter 3: this is so wholesome and honestly the stuff that sticks with kids forever. grilled cheese, burgers, strudels -- you’re teaching him the fundamentals and more importantly that cooking is something he can do and be proud of. the fact that he's a natural at it just means he’s gonna keep wanting to do it, which is the real win here. keep going with this, sounds like you’ve found something yall both love doing together. OOP: I’m thrilled that he took such a shine to it! Plus I feel like it gives him more to look forward to in between time together 🥰. Commenter 4: OP this post is wonderful! I’m beaming with secondhand joy because I can just feel the love and pride you have for him through your words. Nobody has mentioned the legend planner notebook yet so please let me say - if my parents had made something like that for me or with me, I would be ugly sobbing with gratitude. I lost them at 35 and 36. I have some handwritten recipes, my parents compiled and photocopied family recipes into a binder for us. I cherish them. But the funny things we talked about? Which ones we made together? Some silly thing that made them proud of me? God. I’d give anything for a record of that. OOP: Aww thank you so much!! I’m absolutely stupid excited about it as well as filling all those pages up!! 🥹🥰 some of my favorite memories of my grandparents’ house are of something we did in the kitchen together and my heart is absolutely swollen that I get to pass that on to my husband’s son, an extension of my absolute favorite human in the entire universe 🥹🙌✨. Commenter 5: That’s such a solid lineup for a 12-year-old, and strudels is a great call because it teaches real skills without being boring. Grilled cheese and burgers are perfect starter wins, imo, he’s gonna keep building confidence fast. OOP: My husband and I had gone to a flea market the Sunday before Mother’s Day and came home with about $50 worth of raspberries, strawberries and kiwi for $10- I needed something to use it up before it went bad and I had thawed phyllo dough in the fridge, so I asked him if he wanted to make them with me. He absolutely LOVED it- he got to learn how to use a pastry brush AND I said we could have dessert before dinner 🤣🥰. I did some preparing before he came over on Friday- picked a bunch of recipes that I thought he would like and got all the ingredients. Then I made a list of the recipes we could make and told him he’s in charge of when we make what this weekend. Today we made French toast sandwiches (and I showed him how to make black pepper brown sugar bacon “mats” for those), cherry crumb pie and tonight’s dinner will be chicken Parmesan lasagna rollups 😍. Commenter 6: That's so awesome, what a fantastic update! It sounds like he's really found something he loves, and that's a huge win. The way you're teaching him to respect the tools is perfect. For a kid who's really getting into cooking and using all the different gadgets, having good, reliable tools makes a big difference in the long run. OOP: Thank you! Instead of “what are we having for lunch” now it’s “I’m ready to make lunch” 🥰. My 12 year old stepson made this!!: May 25, 2026 Cherry Pie Image Description of the cherry pie A picture of a cherry pie in a clear glass pie dish, sitting on the center rack of the oven. Looks about to be done. There is the golden crumbly topping covering the majority of the surface with the cherries fully baked and warm glowing around the edges. end of the description I’m the stepmom on r/cooking who asked for kid friendly recipes then had a good update yesterday- here is the cherry crumb pie he requested that we make together because “I see we have pie crust mix and cherries” 🥹🥰 So proud of him, it didn’t even survive a full 8 hours!! Concluding Comments Commenter 1: that's awesome, OP! he definitely has a knack for baking. respect for getting him involved in the kitchen, sounds like a fun bonding experience too! OOP: He’s been an absolute natural in the kitchen so far! I’m thrilled he’s taken such a shine to cooking and baking! Commenter 2: that's awesome to hear, props to your stepson for getting into baking. sounds delish and it must feel great seeing him take the initiative like that! OOP: I gave him minimal instruction and helped him here and there (gave him a little demo for some of the steps) and he freakin DID IT!! 🥰🥰🥰 thank you for the kind words!! Commenter 3: Aw that looks delicious! He did such a good job, I wish I could bake that well lol. OOP: Thank you!! I gave him instructions and let him go at it- even the filling is from scratch! Commenter 4: That is an encouraging start. What will you suggest he try next? OOP: I have cupcakes in the freezer that I think we’ll save til next time he’s here- I asked him if he wanted to try cake decorating and he said yes (I’m so freaking excited 🤣🥰) I’ll show him how to make the Wilton buttercream frosting and pipe different shapes and stuff OR get out the super fun cupcake books and decorate up a storm 🥰. OOP on her husband's parents and his life skills of cooking OOP: My husband’s parents (thankfully no contact now but that’s another story) never really taught my husband the life skill of cooking so when we started dating we would have lots of “cooking dates” where we’d pick a recipe, go to the store together and then make it together / have happy hour 🤣🥰 he said to kiddo “I lucked out finding the woman of my dreams who loves to cook for us but she can’t come over to your house every day to cook for you when you’re an adult”- he said he’s excited to learn how to cook so he can do more by himself! Roommate debate
I overheard my roommates in the kitchen. Roommate 1: I'm sorry, I couldn't hear you clearly over the blender, but did you just say you were in bed with a naked girl last night and you did not, I repeat, DID NOT fuck. Roommate 2: She wasn't completely naked. She had her top on. Roommate 1: A top. That's all? Roommate 2: And socks. Roommate 1: And what? You did NOTHING? Roommate 2: We're just friends, bro. She got toothpaste on her underwear, so she took it off. Friends can sleep together without it being sexual. Roommate 1: She had her bare ass in your bed! How is that not sexual??? Dude, please tell me you're trolling me right now because I'm this fucking close to shoving your balls in this blender and making a cockblock smoothie. Roommate 2: Not all of us think with our dicks, bro. She felt safe enough to be exposed around me because she knew I would respect her boundaries and our friendship. Roommate 1: That's cute. You're a gentleman. Love that for you, bro. That's the right attitude to have most of the time. Last night, however, was not one of those times. When your hot fucking friend took off her underwear and climbed into bed with you... she didn't want you as a friend or a gentleman. She wanted someome to fuck. Roommate 2: That's your opinion. You don't know her like I do. Roommate 1: You obviously don't know her as well as you think you do, bro. If you did, we wouldn't be having this conversation because you would've been balls deep in your friend's vagina and I wouldn't be on the verge of an aneurysm due to your self inflicted cockblockery. submitted by /u/JoeVsTheJedi to r/overheard [link] [comments]

Are immersion blenders worth it or just a comple mess?
I’ve been making more simple weeknight soups lately (tomato, lentil, roasted carrot, butternut squash) stuff like that to use up veggies. The most annoying part is always pouring hot soup into a blender in batches, making a mess, and then having another giant thing to wash afterward. I’ve been thinking about getting an immersion blender so I can blend everything right in the pot instead. The Koios one I’m looking at has a stainless shaft and a few attachments, but honestly I mostly care about how smooth it makes soup and whether it sprays hot soup everywhere. For people who use one regularly: does it actually make soups smooth enough for everyday cooking? And do you need a super deep pot to keep splatter under control? I’m not aiming for ultra-fancy restaurant texture or anything. I just want a reasonably creamy soup without turning the kitchen into a cleanup project. submitted by /u/FineappleUnderTheC to r/EatCheapAndHealthy [link] [comments]

I wish my husband could cook
I feel like my husband doesn’t realize how tedious cooking really is, and I wish he would at least TRY to learn so he could be more appreciative of the entire process. He was raised in a household where women do all the cooking and men never step foot in the kitchen unless it’s so they can eat. Whenever he buys something, he defaults to “So YOU know how to make these right?” “This is something YOU can cook right?” instead of even considering for a second that he could try to learn how to make it too. I’m talking basic things like sheet pan vegetable packets or air fryer meat skewers. Stuff that you literally pop into a machine to do the work for you. He doesn’t even know how to use a stove…or a knife either. I always have to be the one to chop up our fruit and vegetables because he just…doesn’t seem to know how. He doesn’t ever use our rice cooker or air fryer. All he can do is operate a microwave, and a blender for his protein shakes. It’s so frustrating because whenever I get sick, he’s useless. He can’t make me anything. The best he can do is buy canned or frozen ready-made meals and heat them in the microwave. I was desperately craving egg drop soup while sick and he couldn’t make it for me. He also was just overall not a very supportive partner while I was sick but that’s a whole other can of worms I’d rather not get into right now. He doesn’t even help me with cleaning up after I’m done cooking. It’s so many pots, pans, utensils, etc that need to be washed, so many ingredients that need to be put away. That all falls on me too. And then he wonders why I never make anything for myself. It’s because I’m so tired making what YOU want to eat sir, that I have no energy to make the foods I want to eat. He’s a big meat-lover (chicken/beef) whereas I’m definitely a seafood girly. But we end up having meat for every meal because I’d rather not have to make 2 separate dishes. Today I said F it and made Thai-style prawn curry, an actual (gasp) seafood dish! I could tell my husband would have preferred meat but thankfully he didn’t say anything. He didn’t eat as much of the curry and just grazed on a bunch of snacks. Oh well, more for me I guess. My husband only ever compliments my cooking when it genuinely blows him away, like it has to be ABOVE most restaurant quality food for him to praise me. My friends/family all say I’m a really good cook but I feel like I have to genuinely make a perfect dish (to HIS standards) for him to compliment me. For reference, he’s never (at least in front of me) complimented his own mother’s cooking, but personally I enjoy her cooking so I make sure to compliment her. I know the poor woman probably spends hours in the kitchen and I’m guessing she feels as unappreciated as I do. Sometimes I wonder if it’s even worth making dishes I prefer because I could survive off crackers and yogurt whereas my husband needs a lot more sustenance, so I should just prioritize his food preferences. Idk, I’m just sad and sometimes wish my husband would surprise me with his own cooking or at least cut up some fruit and give it to me just once. submitted by /u/Most-Air-888 to r/GirlDinnerDiaries [link] [comments]

I'm so goddamn sick of making four different dinners for each family member every night
I'm a SAHM and my husband works two jobs, so the bulk of the domestic tasks are on me (which includes cooking). My husband had some pretty scary blood work come back from the doctor about a month ago so he's had to radically change his diet. I try to eat pretty heathy and take care of myself because I'm approaching 40 and I want to feel/look good, my 4 yo is on the autism spectrum and has mild ARFID, and my 13 yo has a normal diet, but I don't want to subject him to the super pared down, bland meals that their dad eats. Occasionally he'll eat what I eat, but for the most part, he has different preferences than myself, so I end up making a separate meal for everyone. It's so incredibly annoying that I end up just eating unsatisfying and boring chicken breast and broccoli because after I've made everyone else's meals I'm so sick of cooking that I make the quickest easiest thing for myself. Last night my husband had leftovers from a previous meal and grabbed a cheese pizza for the kids (one of the only foods they agree on lol) which meant I had the time and energy to prepare a delicious meal that I actually wanted. I cut up some peaches and put them under the broiler to make them a little charred/caramelized, toasted up some pecans, seared a chicken breast, grabbed a small handful of crumbled gorgonzola cheese, and put it all on a bed of spinach and kale with my scratch made blueberry lemon balsamic vinaigrette dressing. 🤌🏼 I'm actually a pretty good cook, and I wish I had more time to make stuff like this. EDITING TO ADD: Wow this got way more engagement than I was expecting! There are a lot of great suggestions in the comments to help alleviate my kitchen workload, thanks for that! So, a few things: My husband does help me meal prep! Admittedly I do most of it because he works two jobs. He also makes all of his own meals during the day, so it's just dinner that I'm making for him (that he eats when he gets home late from job #2). He's a wonderful parent and husband who contributes meaningfully to our household, on top of working from 8am-11pm Monday-Friday (and occasionally on a weekend day too) I recently started baking with my 13 yo and he's been loving it. The 4 yo gets involved too, but she mostly just likes to stir things and try to steal the spatula (autism moms: iykyk). I think cooking actual meals with me in the kitchen is a great next step for us, I'm sure he'd love learning how to make something. I sense fresh pasta in our future (his favorite) A lot of people are asking for the vinaigrette recipe, so here it is! I pretty much eyeball it, but it's about a cup of fresh blueberries, about a third a cup of balsamic vinegar, quarter cup-ish of evoo, 2 ish tsps of fresh lemon juice and a pinch of the zest, and a small pinch of salt. Put everything in a blender, and there ya go! If it tastes too tart, I'll add a tablespoon of honey, but I personally don't like an overly sweet salad dressing and the blueberries are typically sweet enough for me. Sometimes I'll add a lil Dijon mustard and maybe fresh basil, but the basil can be a tad overwhelming, so I usually stick to the base recipe. Also, this salad is awesome with pears as well! They get nice and caramelized under the broiler too, and it goes well with the gorgonzola. You can sub feta too if you wish, but I like a funky cheese. Editing to add one more thing: Y'all, it's a stainless steel mixing bowl, it's pretty standard kitchenware that comes in a set with a bunch of sizes. It's not a dog bowl. We don't even have a dog lol. submitted by /u/BrontosaurusNeckTie to r/GirlDinnerDiaries [link] [comments]

The last time 🦁 16
Said farewell to my first born son this morning. Hardest thing I’ve ever had to do was make this decision and watch as he took his last breath. Adopted him when I was 17; am now 32. He was 1 1/2 years old when he came into my life and today he passed at 16. The smartest, spunkiest kitty I’ve had the pleasure of knowing. He’s taught me the toughest things in life… beyond saying a final farewell to someone you love so dearly are “The last times.” Never prepared nor could I predict all the lasts. The last time he was so overjoyed & love was overflowing that he’d feel the need to cuddle and knead love into my arm. The last time he’d listen for my footsteps and hide in his cat tunnel, waiting for the perfect moment to run through and hit my ankles as I entered the room to scare/surprise me! The last time he would have the energy to climb the stairs. The last time he would jump in the window seat to sniff fresh air, watch the birds on outdoor TV before taking a nap in the sunshine. The last time he would PARKOUR and jump/roundhouse kick 2 ft up the drywall on the singular place to never let me forget the shoddy patch job I did after a pipe burst 8 years ago. The last time he would be afflicted by zoomies so strong he’d run down the hard word floors like a missile, full on launching off steps becoming airborne for a long jump of 6+ feet before sliding to a halt. The last time he would excitedly wait for me at the door after returning home from a long days work. The last time he would prance into the kitchen screaming in excitement from hearing a Greek yogurt container crack open or the smoothie blender being taken out of the cabinet. The last time he would enjoy his Christmas season mega box forts. The last time he would be my little spoon while watching movies or cuddling. The last time he would play soccer with his favorite ball or walk around the house going Mreoooowp with a kickeroo in his mouth. The last time I would carry him on a woodland trail walk and we would sit while he watched the birds dip, dive & soar around us. The last time I would hear his beautiful purr and kiss his forehead. & so many more last times I could not possibly list them all. I was not prepared for the lasts, but I’m learning to take comfort in the opportunities I had in experiencing life with him. I will be forever grateful I was a mother to such a very special boy. submitted by /u/redditvibes1 to r/seniorkitties [link] [comments]

Recently had my cheapo modern blender die and wanted something more BIFL. Hopped on the ol' eBay to get it. Behold, the Osterizer 847 from 1972! What can I say? I'm a sucker for avocado green. Made sure the blades were sharp enough and have been making smoothies in my kitchen since no problem.
Outside of a modern $300+ Vitamix, something like this is about the best you can get. Objectively speaking, this old boi isn't the best blender as an actual blender in modern times. A $50 Black & Decker or Hamilton Beach will do marginally better than this. However, unlike those, this is IMMORTAL while still doing the job well enough for my needs. Most every part is still available second-hand even today as well in the unlikely event this actually needs maintenance. Favorite feature of this American-made appliance for me, besides just the general looks, is just how tactile the buttons feel. So satisfying! submitted by /u/Red-Wedge-0516 to r/BuyItForLife [link] [comments]

AITA for packing my roommate’s stuff when she’s supposed to be moving out in three days ?
I was cleaning the living room and kitchen and I put some of her non-essential stuff in two boxes (winter boots, a blender she doesn’t use, a bag of soil for her plants, etc.) I left the boxes open in the living room so she could see what was in them and add stuff if she wanted to. I was cleaning and trying to make space because my girlfriend will be moving in tomorrow - so it will cramped for two or three days. I also wanted to help my roommate because she has LOTS of stuff and hasn’t started packing yet (which, I admit, kind of stresses me out). Well, roommate didn’t say anything, but she put everything I packed back to its original place - even if she doesn’t use it (including the box with her winter boots and fall boots… - we’re almost in July). I found this very odd and I asked her about it. She said she didn’t like me touching and moving her stuff - which, granted, I understand, but I was actually trying to help because she’s moving in THREE days and hasn’t even started to pack yet. AITA? submitted by /u/oldgoatfart to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]

I started practicing opera at 6 AM because my neighbor complained about my "noisy" coffee grinder
I (28F) have lived in my apartment for about 2 years now. Every morning, I grind fresh coffee beans around 7:30 AM before work - it takes maybe 30 seconds, tops. Never had a single complaint until the new guy moved in next door 4 months ago. This dude (probably mid-40s) works nights apparently, but instead of talking to me like a normal person, he started leaving passive-aggressive notes under my door. First it was "SOME PEOPLE ARE TRYING TO SLEEP." Then "The coffee grinder is EXCESSIVE." Finally, last month, he escalated to filing a formal noise complaint with the landlord. The landlord laughed it off since 7:30 AM is well within reasonable hours, but Prince Charming next door didn't stop there. He started banging on the walls whenever I used ANY kitchen appliance. Blender? BANG BANG. Microwave beeping? BANG BANG BANG. So I decided if he wants to play the noise game, I'll play. Turns out I took opera lessons in college and still remember most of the vocals. Now I practice scales and arias every morning at 6 AM sharp - completely legal quiet hours end at 6 in our building. The best part? When he came pounding on my door last week screaming about the singing, I innocently told him I'm "pursuing my passion" and that "music is meant to be shared." He tried filing another complaint but the landlord told him that practicing music during daytime hours is perfectly acceptable. I've been doing this for 3 weeks now. This morning I started learning Wagner. Those pieces are REALLY long. Petty? Absolutely. But hey, at least my vocal range is improving. submitted by /u/StatueOfFashion to r/pettyrevenge [link] [comments]

Could you suggest a European-made kitchen blender for me?
Hello. Could you suggest a European-made kitchen blender for me? I need a blender with comparable power to a Vitamix, as I want to grind nuts and seeds for smoothies. Thank you. submitted by /u/gruziigais to r/BuyFromEU [link] [comments]

Just starting work in an office? A few useful tips
This is the time of year that a lot of people start working in offices, on graduate schemes, apprenticeships etc. It can be a bit confusing when you first start, so here are a few pointers to make sure you don't put a foot wrong. There is often a fridge in the office kitchen where people leave food and drinks, sometimes labelled with their names. Anyone can take this- but try and remember the name of who left it so you can thank them later It's considered rude to sit in the office with headphones on, just make sure you've got your speakers on a loud enough volume that other people can enjoy the music too Video calls are a normal part of office life now- but the same social rules apply. If you see a workmate on a call, it's polite to pop your head into shot of the camera and wave at the person / people on the other end. You might need to take the headset off your colleague to say a proper "Hi" Most office kitchens will not have a blender for smoothies, making a lunchtime curry etc. So you will need to bring your own As you get into an elevator just a quick "Hi my name is... my pronouns are... and I'm going to floor..." is fine as an ice breaker It can be nice to go out for lunch with your colleagues to get to know them- and remember to get a whiskey chaser with each pint. You can always sleep it off when you get back to work! Knowing what to wear can be confusing if you haven't been in a professional environment before. The best option is to make a careful note of what your boss (or colleague of the same gender) wears, and then wear an exact copy of that the next day If you are on a large group email (e.g. discussion about the Christmas party- no it's not too early to be thinking about it!), remember to use "Reply All" even if your response is something small. No-one likes to be left out submitted by /u/Swiss_James to r/CasualUK [link] [comments]

AITA for embarrassing my dad during dinner in front of everyone and refusing to apologize for it?
My (16f) dad (46m) loves pranks. He regularly watch those old prank vids on YT for hours then try them out on everyone around him. Once I heard my mom screaming upstairs and ran to see what happened. It turned out dad poured a bucket of ice water on her while she was in the shower. Another time I walked out to my car and found it missing. I ran back in the house crying because I thought it got stolen. My dad was laughing so hard he was almost on the floor. He moved my car. I love dad but sometimes it’s exhausting living with him. My older sis Jessie (24f) lives out of state. A month ago, she told us she’s coming to visit and bringing home her boyfriend David (I don’t know his age but he looks to be in his older 20s) for us to meet him. Jessie usually likes the pretty boys who wears polo shirts and are around 6 feet tall (this is important, trust me). When dad heard about it, he was so excited he couldn’t hold it in. He ran out and bought the hottest hot sauce he could find. He showed it off to me and mom and told us he’s going to make a special plate for David. Of course I told my sis but she told me not to worry about it. When she came home last night and David walked through the door, we were all shocked. David is a little shorter than sis and a full head shorter than dad. He looks like someone shaved a pit bull and forced it into a sports jacket. I’m not talking about the cute ones you see running downstairs and taking showers with their owners. He looks like someone stuck him into a blender and he won. When he went to shake hands with dad, I can see David had wider shoulders, bigger hands, and his forearms was 2x as big. I could also see and was staring at this scar on the back of his hands and ran up pass the sleeve of his dress shirt. Dinner rolls around and David compliments mom on her cooking, which surprised me. I asked if he really likes it he said yes. Sis and I looked at each other and we instantly knew dad didn’t spike David’s meal. I asked dad if David got the right plate or if there was a mix up. Then I told David dad had prepared a special plate for him. Dad’s face turned bright red and he told me to eat my dinner. Of course I didn’t so I said I’ll go check the kitchen to get the right plate. Sis was trying so hard not to laugh and poor David was confused. Mom squeezed my leg hard so I knew the fun was over. After sis and David left, dad yelled at me for embarrassing him. Mom told me to apologize but I refused saying that I was only trying to help dad out with the prank. I’m grounded until I apologize. Did I go too far for embarrassing my dad? AITA? Update: Thanks for reading my post! Even the people who called my TA, you took the time to read it! I’m still grounded but it won’t start until sis leaves so I spent the day with her and David. He’s the funniest guy I’ve ever met. He kept sis and I laughing most of the afternoon. He’s also super sweet. He opened the doors for us everywhere we went and pulled out sis’ chair for her at the restaurant during lunch. I like him alot. It wasn’t all good times because they were always holding hands and kissing. I stopped doing that freshman year. My visual description of him was not to say he’s ugly but I meant to say he’s the scariest guy I’ve ever met irl. I felt like a queen today because everywhere we went, people just got out of the way. Anyway, thanks for taking time to read my post! submitted by /u/Apprehensive_Fun9854 to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]

I'm never buying oat milk again
I used to pick up almond milk or oat milk at Aldi, but a few months ago I learned how easy it is to make oat milk at home! So much cheaper than spending $4+ bucks a carton and takes about 2 minutes for me to make a batch. Add 4 cups water, 1 cup old fashioned oats, a pinch of salt, and 1/2-1 tsp of sweetener (you can also add some vanilla if you feel), and blitz with an immersion blender. Strain out the oat clumps (I use a regular old kitchen strainer and store in a jar. The process takes about 2 minutes total. You will need to shake it before using as it will separate. Lasts about a week in the fridge. Edit: As folks have pointed out, if you're drinking oat milk to get vitamins/calcium, those won't be present. I find the consistency great for cereal, smoothies, baking, etc, but wouldn't add it to coffee, so YMMV on this recipe. Have fun! submitted by /u/cheezdreams to r/Frugal [link] [comments]

Besides a blender and toaster, what is the one small kitchen appliance you recommend for everyone to get?

AITA for buying my gf a blender instead of the necklace she wanted for our anniversary?
Before I start I’d like to say that my gf and I are both women. We are lesbians. I say this to hopefully preempt the ‘typical man’ comments. This happened last month but my best friend and hers are still giving me shit about it. We had our one year anniversary. I asked what she wanted and she told me just something romantic, a little necklace or something cute. While browsing around on Amazon I found an emulsion blender and it pinged in my head. My gf loves cooking and always talks about all the gadgets she wants. Plus she made homemade tomato sauce and I remember her complaining how hard it was to make the sauce smooth cause she didn’t have an emulsion blender. I’m a very practical gift giver, I like to give things people will use so I bought it and was super excited to give it to her. The day rolls around and she gives me a bottle of whiskey I’ve had my eye on for ages but could never justify the cost. I was so hyped and encouraged my gf to open hers. She opened it and her face kinda falls and she goes ‘oh… an emulsion blender…?’ And I told her I remembered her talking about all the kitchen gadgets she wanted and was so excited to give it to her. She kept her cool but told me while she appreciated the thought she was a little upset that it wasn’t jewelry. I was confused so she explained that she felt anniversary’s should be more about romantic/sentimental gifts versus practical, that she appreciated it greatly but couldn’t lie to me that she wished it had been the necklace she pointed out to me online (it was nothing fancy, a $30 mushroom necklace). I shared my woes with my friend and my friend thought it was hilarious that I was so inept, and that he understood why my gf was upset with her gift. Gf’s best friend also got wind of the situation and has been ribbing me with telling my gf to get back to the kitchen jokes etc. My gf and I are fine but I know she was disappointed, and she ended up buying the necklace herself a week after I gave her the blender. So aita for giving my gf a practical gift versus the necklace she wanted? submitted by /u/penguinblinders to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]

TIFU By getting drunk off of my protein shake
So I rent a house with two of my best friends and current college roommates. In my house I’m known as the “OCD one”, the cleaner. I wake up the earliest; usually will do the dishes, take out the trash, sweep up, etc. Essentially it’s part of my morning routine and I really don’t mind b/c its something that makes it easier for me to live in a shared household if the common area is clean. So this fateful morning came where I come downstairs and begin cleaning after having people over last night. I’m picking up trash around the living room and there I spot a full plastic water bottle. Now this part might sound a little weird, but for context I absolutely hate wasting food/water for those less fortunate than others and of course I couldn’t look past just throwing it away. I make the executive decision that whoever brought it clearly didn’t drink much of it and whatever germs were present must have been minimal. I whip out my Brita filter, dump the whole thing in, and toss the bottle in the recycling bin. All was done in a good mornings work. So the next step in my morning routine, breakfast. I like to keep it simple so it was just going to be egg whites, turkey bacon, and avocado for a little healthy breakfast burrito action. I plan on going to the gym in a few so why not make a protein shake to go along with my meal. I pull out that Brita filter, dump the whole thing in my blender, and two scoops of protein powder later we’re on our way to gainz city. Now normally as I drink any protein shake I always don’t particularly like the taste, but this morning it really tasted a bit off. I can only describe it as what may have been a cross between a slight metallic taste & dishwashing detergent with subtle notes of chocolate. As I’m eating I’m like “Screw it” and decided to chug the whole thing and shrug it off. 30min. and a bathroom trip later I feel as if I landed on another planet. I stumble back into the kitchen and fill up the Brita again for a glass of water only to realize it tasted like a shot of alcohol. It was...I chugged a bottle of straight gin with chocolate protein. I never made it to the gym that morning. A few texts in the friend group chat confirmed it was gin and I was indeed the village idiot who poured a random water bottle in the Brita. Proceeded to take a very long nap and decided that going to class was not going to be an option. TL;DR I made my protein shake with gin instead of water and got drunk at 9am Update 1: This was not today. I’m not a frequent reddit user and I only found out about this sub rather recently today after a friend told me I should post the story. I am not still drunk or I would not have been capable of typing this all out. Update 2: The quotations that are around “OCD one” were for comical purposes. I have not been diagnosed with the condition nor do I mean to directly offend anyone who actually does have the disorder. I apologize if I have offended anyone out there if this post continues to be upvoted. To my previous understanding it is often interchangeably used as a term to describe individuals who prefer their personal space to be clean and in order. I understand now that this was a mistake. Update 3: Yes, I know...who filters bottled water. It was a dumb decision as I have been told many times already lol. Update 4: (Last one) Wow I certainly did not expect this sort of reaction, I’m glad most were able to share a laugh! A lot of people are asking how did I not smell gin. I really can’t answer that tbh...I just didn’t? I certainly am well aware on a normal occasion that gin tends to reek, but this was more than likely bottom shelf alcohol (it was a college get-together c’mon ya’ll). I was on autopilot and I guess between the aroma of breakfast and protein powder there really was no red signs. It’s worth noting that I only got the protein the day before from GNC. It was Double Chocolate Pro Performance Bulking powder and I honestly had no idea what it was supposed to taste like. Down the hatch it went. submitted by /u/Wiijum to r/tifu [link] [comments]
