DIY Tank Stand help for planted tank
I’m sorry if he this isn’t the right place to post this but I’ve found this community more active than the aquariums page. So I bought a used tank and stand and I was very wary of the stand being able to support it so I braced it up with 2x4s in the corners but upon getting everything setup there is now a 1/4 inch gap in the belly of the tank. I measured my 2x4s to sit flush with the stand but it never works out right for me. So now I am wondering what I can do to fix this issue. I’m thinking maybe a brace in the middle in the front and back of the tank to close that gap and keep support in the middle so it doesn’t sag more. All the 2x4s run from the floor to the top board and the stand sits level so it shouldn’t need too much adjustment. Thanks for any advice! submitted by /u/GuyFieriIsMySon to r/PlantedTank [link] [comments]

DIY plant stands for my balcony
I finally decided to upgrade my balcony, and instead of buying expensive plant stands, I made my own! I used wood planks from a local market and some old metal pipes I had lying around. With a bit of sanding, painting, and assembling, I created tiered stands that can hold 6–8 pots, from small herbs to bigger leafy plants. Not only does it save money, but it also gives my balcony a personal and cozy touch. I especially love how the sunlight hits all the plants evenly now, and watering is so much easier. Has anyone else tried making their own balcony plant setups? I’d love to see creative ideas or hacks that other DIYers in Vietnam are doing especially for small apartments with limited space! submitted by /u/Extension_Storage320 to r/DIYVietnam [link] [comments]

Will argue this until I die
Owning multiple properties “investments”should never have become a thing. Growing up we all wanted the dream house. Not houses. Forced out recently because owner is selling. Thats ok. So why am I annoyed? Bc this owner is from overseas. Who owns multiple and has just recently acquired a new one from their recent visit from China. A family member watches over them all. Botched diy jobs before I moved in (painting that looks like the kids have done, landscaping which was rip a few plants out and make concrete steps) some research, 645k when they got this place which is now up for 1.2m I feel a bit better now breathes out Edit : I see I’ve upset some landlords in here, they’ve come out of their holes sending me DMs. My financials are fine at 25yo and I’ll get my house one day. My bf built this gigantic in-wall DIY aquarium and left the country the next day. I am terrified.
I am NOT the Original Poster. That is Sad-Acanthisitta377. They posted in r/Aquariums Do NOT comment on Original Posts. Latest update is 7 days old. Mood Spoiler: leaning toward hopeful-ish Original Post: June 17, 2025 My boyfriend has been working on this beautiful in-wall aquarium at my home for many months. It is constructed of plywood painted with pond coat for the bottom and sides. The plywood pieces are glued together and to the frame with liquid nails. The glass is 1/2” tempered glass that he purchased from a glass table top manufacturer. The glass has tapered edges all around. He used 100% silicone to glue the tempered glass (two table tops) to the pond coated plywood and frame (top). He assures me that the silicone is not relying on the tapered down (thinner) edge of the table top, but is located in thick part. The glass has a wooden frame pressing it with deck (i think) screws and washers every 6”, visible in the picture. I am terrified that it is going to fail. Here’s why: Two days ago, he built the entire tank without the frame. We filled it to the top. We believe it is about 120 gallons. The silicone failed and all of the water rapidly fell through the silicone onto the floor. Since it was filled to the top at the time, it flooded the entire downstairs of my home, where I live alone with my child when my bf is not visiting. This happened two days before his flight back home, out of the country. I didn’t want him to rush to redo it in two days because of the obvious catastrophe that could occur (again) if mistakes were made. He did anyways, and put water in the tank. I am terrified. Should I be? What are your thoughts about this new tank? Image Image 2 (pic of other side OOP included in the comments) Some of OOP's Comments: Commenter: Yeah would probably agree with the folks here that it might be best to take a break on the project while he's gone and drain it. While I don't have the space or the balls for something like this, I can appreciate the ambition. I would not trust it if I built it though, to say the least. I'm still working on building my own stands! OOP: Thank you so much. Maybe I just need a pep talk to drain it. We will be so sad to lose the plants but my peace of mind is also on the line for the months that he will be gone The weight of the filled aquarium: We calculated it and we think it is around 950 lbs. we were considering reinforcing the floor before filling it back up. [editor's note: 430.9 kgs] Commenter: Timelines seem off on this. It takes 3 days for the silicone to fully cure, most people say to allow a week. It should be fully cured before leak testing. OOP: He waited 24 hours Commenter: [...] Also, coming from someone who's resident in-laws are destroying his home with half-assed upgrades and cheap replacements without even checking in first... don't let your BF touch that tank again until he's done proper research, and gained an appreciation and respect for your home. Maybe the story isn't about relational issues and that's why you didn't include anything on that, or maybe you didn't even voice your concerns to him before he left, but if your BF doesn't show any remorse for flooding your home with half a ton of water and then proceeds to try to do the same again before leaving the country....? This has got red flags all over it; relationally, engineering, and possibly even in terms of fish husbandry if he has such disregard life around him. It's not my (or any of Reddit's for that matter) place to make such suggestions, but I would seriously reconsider if this is someone you want making such changes in your home and life. OOP: I was totally on board with the whole thing until it busted open. We had numerous arguments about it after its failure, me wanting to turn it into a terrarium and he wanting an aquarium. Against my very clearly explained wishes, he went ahead and filled the tank partially last night. I was devastated. We fought more. I took him to the airport at 3am this morning. It is now 930am and I have finally figured out how to siphon the water out. I am using a drill siphon. To a longer comment: Thank you for explaining the framing. The first time it was erected, there was no frame at all, just silicone. Then this frame that he put on TOP of the glass, holding it down, (then glass siliconed to the pond coat plywood) is supposed to fix the problem. I am not sure it will. Commenter: him flooding your home wasn't enough for you to put your foot down? OOP: I did. He filled it up while I was out. Commenter: I'd say drain the tank and then lose the boyfriend. Doesn't sound like a very considerate person. He built a poorly designed aquarium in a house that's not his, then flooded the house due to the poor design. Then he rebuilt and refilled it again against your wishes and left the country?! OOP: Phrased like this is what I apparently need to hear Mini Update in Comments: 15 hours later OP Update: the water is out of the aquarium. I went in my crawl space and found little puddles of water throughout where the spill was. I vacuumed them with a shop vac and am returning tomorrow to vacuum any leftover spots. I am considering going down there with towels as well tomorrow or the next day. I’d love suggestions on this too, if you have them. Thanks everyone for engaging so much. More Comments: Commenter: Why are you accepting this as if your boyfriend did not just jeopardize you and especially your child's home for funsies? How have you not forced the man(child) to hop on the first flight back and fix the issues he created after you said he refilled the tank behind your back? Why did you even let him leave after he did that? So many questions OOP: His involvement has not been beneficial, and I’m unsure if I am willing to see him again. 1 hour later: I just exited the crawlspace with a full shop vac. Going back tomorrow with a dehumidifier. Thank you so much for your comments and suggestions. Update Post: June 19, 2025 (2 days later) Title: Update on the aquarium my bf erected and then left the country It is disassembled in my driveway. Image 1: disassembled tank Image 2: where the tank once was Some of OOP's Comments: Commenter: soo are you guys still together that was a very blunt “It is disassembled in my driveway” OOP: I haven’t told him. I’m not sure what I’m going to do with regard to telling him. I also have a non-changeable plane ticket to see him July 15th for a week. Also not sure what to do about that Commenter: Ngl I know it's not the subject of this subreddit, but I'm waiting for an update on the bf 👀👀 like is he still a bf because he really did you so dirty. OOP: Hahaha I really wanted to update everyone Commenter: Wait, so like... where did he go? Is he coming back? Did he just make that in a manic panic and dip? I am confused OOP: He lives in another country part time. So he visits here for a month or two, then goes back there for a month or two. And yes, he rushed through in a panic and left me with the aquarium that was not thought out properly filled with water. A lot of his stuff is here (including a vehicle) so he will eventually see that it’s gone. Commenter: What about the fishes? OOP: First, I believe that this is the first of the 666 comments that cared about the fish so thank you for that. Also, there were no fish. Commenter: How about the plants? OOP: The plants did not make it out alive 😢 Commenter: I need to know, when it was built, how did you have access to the top of the tank? Was one side of the glass wall lower or something? Or was it like entrapped into the wall with no access? So glad you disassembled it OOP: That was another major problem. I couldn’t access it. When we took it apart the remaining bit of water was sooo gross and smelly already Commenter: Wait, there was no access to the tank at all? How was this supposed to work? The mind boggles.... OOP: There was but it was prohibitively difficult for me to access, and very difficult (but possible) for my more agile teenager to access. Having said, I was not willing to ask my daughter to take care of it consistently. Some more info: He is still out of the country. I paid a former client (and now friend) to help me remove it yesterday. It was a sonnofa to say the least. Bf and I have been arguing consistently since he left. He does not know I’ve removed the tank, but I am asking him questions about each and every issue that was presented by you all in addition to my continued concerns. He apologizes, but in a “sorry I even tried to do anything nice for you” sort of way. He thinks I’m overreacting. To a longer Comment: Thank you for your perspective. He is totally devastated. He has worked for a year erecting this. We have watched hundreds of hours of tank building YouTube videos together. Not to mention the money…it’s just altogether sad. One difference though is that he doesn’t really seem remorseful about the impact on me this has had. He is only sad that he might not get to go forward with it. Commenter: What did your bf say when you told him you found literal puddles of water in your crawl space? OOP: He said this (edited for privacy and readability): “That's interesting. . . . You can go back and clean it up but it's not super important or necessarily time sensitive. If there is standing water it's not good in general to just leave it. (like pools of water) . . . The only thing I would be concerned about is if that water or some of that water is coming from a source other than the aquarium. Next time it rains hard you should check (the next day). to make sure you are not discovering a water problem (like the wall in your garage) and assuming that it all came from the aquarium. It's very possible that it all came from the aquarium. It's also possible that you have a water problem in addition of the aquarium.” So basically that the water down there was not from the flooding he caused lol Their relationship: Maybe. We have never been exclusive but have been in a close romantic relationship and friendship for about 4 years. He moved out of the country about 2 years ago. To another commenter: I am definitely less exclusive with him being not present in the area. I imagine that he is as well. My child is an older teenager and not his. He has four adult children that are domiciled in my area. Commenter: Holy shit! How do you do that? How do you just say maybe and accept it?! [...] OOP: There have been times that I wish we were exclusive, but also he is a lot and I need breaks. Commenter: Just wanted to drop by and say that I hope you're doing okay, OP. I know it's a silly, fun time but I'm sorry you're dealing with this! OOP: Thank you! I thought removing the aquarium would make everything better, but it did not. I am still very sad. I cried in front of my mom and sister today about the whole ordeal (who are visiting during this not to mention). Commenter: It is worth looking at why you have not yet been able to tell him. I totally recognise that instinct and there is no judgment from me at all, but it raises more red flags for me about the way he speaks to you about this and your reluctance to break the news. It feels like your relationship might be much more about his convenience than yours. [...] OOP: Yesterday I was sad and crying. I didn’t understand why I was so sad despite the tank being removed from my home. My mom pointed out that this problem has revealed to me characteristics that are unfavorable about him and I am probably sad about that. My sister is more aware of the situation. She is around more, and sees that he is not always like this. She believes that it was very unthoughtful but is careful to express that to me because she is reading this and is aware that I’m being bombarded with negative comments about him. To another commenter: I very much appreciate everyone’s insight on this and agree with you on needing to end it. It’s is emotionally difficult for me to end it with him, but I think I will need to. With regard to the manic episode, maybe you are right. However, it has taken about a year of planning and preparing to get to the point of building the aquarium so it was difficult to argue that he was being impulsive. Mini Update in Comments: June 21, 2025 (2 days later, 4 from OG post) Update: My sister and I took the pile of wood and glass that used to be the aquarium to the dump today. I haven’t spoken to bf since Wednesday. I’m going to wait until I’m not so upset and then reassess our relationship/friendship. I’m browsing French doors for that opening in the wall. Considering hiring the guy that helped me remove the tank to do the French doors with me. One more thought from OOP: Thank you! Also, commenters haven’t learned about all of the really nice things he has done for me over the years. And tbh I still believe that the aquarium was intended to be a favor for me. However, I do think that to the extent the redditors aren’t trolling me, they are right about my relationship. It speaks volumes that I only asked for aquarium advice in an aquarium sub, and there was an overwhelming response from a group of people not looking to give romance advice that gave it to me. TIFU: I muted family chat on WhatsApp and ended up at a formal party dressed like a hobo.
I tried to post this story a month ago, but I guess it was my newbie account, or too many mistakes, and it didn’t go through moderation approval. I corrected it a little—maybe this time it gets published. Well, I don’t use English daily, and I’ve always been terrible with past tenses. Also, I might be a bit drunk. Please forgive me for any mistakes. So, basically, we have this family chat on WhatsApp. We mostly use it to exchange photos, links, and memes, but it’s also kind of a bulletin board where people post announcements about upcoming family gatherings and events. When I joined, I muted it almost immediately because my phone kept blowing up with endless photos of kids doing kid stuff. I love my family, but at some point, I was just done. I’m a terrible person, I know. Still, I’ve never worried about missing a party because my mom is super responsible and always calls me in advance to remind me. So, this Friday, my mom called me. Mom: Do you remember the housewarming party on Saturday? Me: The housewarming what…? Mom: John and Dorothy’s party. It starts at 4 p.m. Check WhatsApp. Somewhere deep in my brain, a lightbulb lit up. My cousins had discussed this party almost two months ago at the last family gathering, and—oh, right—I had agreed to come. So, I decided to bake an apple pie. Everybody in my family loves apple pie, and it’s quick and easy. You can’t go wrong with a good apple pie. Unfortunately, I worked overtime on Friday and didn’t finish until 7 p.m. That meant I had to buy apples from a big supermarket instead of the better-quality ones at the market. I was still hoping to find some nice sour apples, the only ones suitable for baking. Well, of course, the supermarket had about five types of apples, none of them good for baking. I cursed under my breath, googled the types I didn’t recognize, and went with the least juicy ones. The next day, I baked the pie. It looked perfectly normal (great), so I was hopeful. At 4 p.m., the pie was packed, I was in my coat, and I was ready to go. The party had officially started at 4 p.m., but I was planning to arrive at 5 p.m.—fashionably late, as always. I opened the WhatsApp group to check the address. Well, fuck. Dorothy had specifically asked everyone not to bring food because they had catering and didn’t want anything to go to waste. Moreover, they’d shared a list of gift ideas on SharePoint. It was a fantastic list, including cheap options like €5 glasses from IKEA and more expensive items like a coffee set. Unfortunately, all the cheap items left were only available online, which wasn’t an option for me. But there was one gift they wanted in unlimited amounts: plants. I thought: OH MY GOD, GREAT! They even included a list of plants safe for kids and pets—and a list of toxic ones. Reading the second list, I realized my two dogs and my cat were probably very lucky to still be alive, considering that every single plant I own is on the toxic list. When dressing for the party, I went full casual. What does that mean? Well, I have this two-month-old pile of washed clothes sitting on my desk, waiting in vain to be ironed. I don’t even know what’s at the bottom of the pile anymore. Each morning, I dig through it, fish out some random clothes, grab two mismatched socks, and head to work. My family and coworkers know me, so they’ve learned to accept my “hobo look.” This day was no different. I chose grey leggings that had seen better days, a wrinkled white sweater, and two mismatched socks—one white, one grey with stripes. I hadn’t washed my hair either, so I threw it into a greasy half-ponytail with a random scrunchie. I didn’t even bother brushing it. Looking like a true lady, I jumped into my car and drove to the nearest DIY store with a plant section. I found a plant from the safe list, all right. As a matter of fact, I might as well have walked into the store and yelled, “GIVE ME THE MOST EXPENSIVE PLANT YOU HAVE.” It was a magnificent areca palm, tall as hell. I wasn’t even sure it would fit in my car. €45. I was running really late and still needed a pot, soil, and LECA. The only nice pot I could find was €50. In total, with LECA and soil, I spent €100 instead of €5 for IKEA glasses like my clever cousin Johanna, who had claimed that item a month ago. So, there I was, in my white sweater, in a freezing 3°C parking lot, repotting the fucking areca. I finished, begged the areca not to die from the cold, and went to clean my hands—only to discover that my white sweater was no longer white. I tried to clean it, but that only left it soaked and covered in a massive muddy stain. Ah, perfect. But it’s just my close family, right? They know me and accept me as I am. On the way to the party, some jerk cut me off, and I had to slam on the brakes. Two things happened: The leftover bag of soil spilled all over the passenger seat, floor, and poor areca. Most of the areca’s leaves broke off. Still, the pot was nice. I figured they could always replant something else in it. It’s just my family, right? Well, wrong. I mean, I should have guessed. They did write that they ordered catering, and who the hell orders catering for 10–15 people? Especially when it’s just a housewarming party and supposed to be a small family gathering…? So, I entered my cousins’ house and proceeded to the dining room. I fucking froze. There were like 50 people there. All the elders were dressed elegantly, and the younger generations looked like they were heading to a business-casual office party. And then there was me. Standing there in my once-upon-a-time white sweater, with greasy hair, mismatched socks, and a half-demolished plant in my hands. An evening to remember, for sure. I will never, ever mute the family chat again. TL;DR: Muted family chat on WhatsApp. Didn’t read updates. Showed up almost 3 hours late to a formal party with greasy hair, mismatched socks, a muddy sweater, and a €100 plant I destroyed while driving there. Never muting family chat again. EDIT: Ok, so a lot of you are furious about me disrespecting my family. Guys, I don’t know you, but maybe the standards for dressing at a family party, formal or not, are different in my country — or maybe it's just my family. When you show up at a party, whether you're underdressed or overdressed, it's completely on you. You have to deal with it and bear the embarrassment. The hosts really don’t care. It's not like we need to be in matching outfits for a photo or anything. You'd have to do something extreme, like show up in an inflatable dinosaur suit or something, to actually disrupt a party. I’m pretty sure that if my cousins had to choose between me coming dressed the way I did or not coming at all, they would 100% choose the first option. I want to reassure you that I only embarrassed myself and didn’t ruin the party. Really. When Dorothy welcomed me and took the ruined areca from my hands, she said, "Good, you arrived! We were worried something happened. And this?" (pointing at the areca) "I need to hear this story." submitted by /u/Mrijka to r/tifu [link] [comments]

DIY plant stand
the ones I could find were too expensive, so I made one with plastic pots and wooden planks, I might've gone a bit too small on the pot size though so I might redo it when I order new pots, but as of now, it's fairly sturdy so it works ig submitted by /u/dont_mind_me_passing to r/gardening [link] [comments]

I just saw a lady get tasered for trying to snatch a woman's face mask to give her to child.
I argued with my husband about whether or not to post this because I'm pretty sure this will make the local news and I didn't want to burn this account just yet. But he won RPS so here we are. Prepare yourself, this story has layers. We were at the dreaded big box store picking up potting soil because we are going to DIY ourselves through the isolation. Things aren't crazy here (yet), but there is a 2 per customer limit on a majority of items. I assume this means everything, so we're getting 2 bags each of a few different types of soil. My husband is loading the last of 8 bags on our cart when I hear her. I know it's a Karen just by the level of unnecessary outrage in her voice. Karen: "Are you KIDDING me?!?!" Not a lot of people out here in the garden center, but we all look to her. I was almost disappointed to see she didn't come with the requisite haircut. She actually looked like a frazzled mom - her kid tugging on her hand and an overfull hand-basket of groceries - and I had a moment of "Girl, I feel you." But dammit, she was pointing at us. Karen: "You can't buy THAT many! You. Are. HOARDING!" My husband: "Yeah we can, we're getting 2 each." Karen: "Oh you don't fool me. I know what you're doing!" My husband: "So do I. Fuck off." I'm just sitting there imagining all the ways I'm gonna rock his world tonight. Well Karen huffed at that, spun around and yanked her kid back inside to go complain to the employee working the register nearby. Now, we already paid for our items - the employee had come out and scanned the bags earlier and he could easily see our cart from inside. So, being finished, we pushed the cart out of the garden center into the parking lot. And then the automatic doors open behind us and I hear "...now they're stealing!" Juuust great. We load the soil in the car and turn around to bring the cart back and look at plants. By the time we get back, Karen has given up on trying to convince the employee we're the Bonnie and Clyde of Dirt and is now trying to negotiate skipping somebody in line. She has a child, you see, and her hand-basket, well it's just so full and heavy. Could she pleeease just scootch right on in here real quick and it'll just be an extra second, she swears. The woman Karen is trying to skip is young, maybe college age, and wearing a face mask. Not a medical mask, but the stretchy kind you'd wear while riding a motorcycle or when you're skiing. (My husband has just informed me it's a neck gaiter.) The mask is black and has like scary wolf teeth on it that honestly made the girl look like somebody you should not fuck with, even though she was wearing a GAP t-shirt and flip flops. Mask Girl is just shaking her head no and that's all I got as we dropped off the cart. I browse, pick up a couple plants, and we head inside to wait in line. Now it's showtime. Karen and Mask Girl are near the register facing off, no pun intended. From the looks of things, Mask Girl finished her purchase and Karen stopped her before she could leave. I dunno if she grabbed her or anything, but Karen was still holding her full hand-basket so she hadn't checked out yet. Well, she hadn't paid for her groceries yet, because clearly this woman had checked out. Karen: "But you don't even need it now, you're leaving. My son could get sick because you won't give it to him and he needs it!" Mask Girl: "Hell no, you can't have it. Back off, lady." Karen: "But my son really likes it and it's obviously made for boys anyway, why would you even want to wear something so scary?" Mask Girl: "Because I like it. And it has my germs on it, why would you put a stranger's mask on your kid?" Karen: "Ugh, why are you being so rude? You wouldn't let us go through the check out first and now you're making my son very upset!" Mask Girl: "Your problem, not mine." And then Mask Girl turns to leave while Karen manifests the biggest balls ever and grabs Mask Girl by the back of her mask. Let me make a side note here. When all of this is going down, we're all just standing in line and watching. The register is still going boop... boop... boop... as the employee scans items, but otherwise we are all just inside this hypnotic bubble. But when Karen reached out towards Mask Girl, it was like the bubble popped and made everything crystal clear. Not slow mo or anything, but I absolutely felt hyper-aware. Like Spider-Man. Karen reaches out, people on both sides of me inhale loudly, Karen grabs the mask and yanks, a lady on my right yells and my husband steps forward (so getting laid tonight), Mask Girl tucks her head down and she turns to Karen like a pissed off bull with a bright and shiny new target. I think Karen was going to say something like "Don't walk away from me" or something, but all she got out was "Don't-" *CRACK!\* I looked around because the noise was so loud I figured the roof was about to cave in, but out of the corner of my eye I see Karen spasm and drop to the floor writhing. Little Miss Mask Girl had a fucking taser! I dunno when she pulled it out, this tiny little flashlight looking thing, but she laid Karen out with it. And not one of us moved for what felt like forever, like we were frozen. And then it was fucking bedlam. Security guard shows up, more employees show up, Mask Girl is chilling like she's been through this before and knows what comes next, the kid is screaming that the wolf girl killed his mom even though she's groaning and sobbing on the floor and clearly not dead but maybe wishing she was, the people that had been in line with us were all talking at once trying to tell the security guard what happened. We hung around just witnessing the insanity for maybe 2 minutes before Karen started choking out demands for an ambulance, the police, a lawyer, the mayor, restitution, and reparations. My husband made eye contact with an employee and got a thumbs up when he put the plants on a shelf and pointed towards the door. We got the fuck outta there. We drove home in silence until my husband parked the car in our driveway and then we just burst out laughing. Neither of us have ever seen anything like that before. We live in a small beach town, people are super laid back and mellow. Karen was anything but and I hope to never see her again. ETA: Not sure what the awards mean, but I thank you very much! I made this account to tell a story that happened 25 years ago and blew my shot on a Karen instead. Slowly responding to messages, but to answer a couple Q's: I can't access security footage. I am an unreliable narrator in what Karen's body actually did, I wasn't looking directly at her, but she flailed, fell, and squirmed while groaning. I do not know the difference between a taser and a stun gun - Mask Girl had what looked like a thin baton flashlight. We have very lax taser laws in this state. Thanks for reading, take care of yourselves and stay safe! submitted by /u/thisrequiresaburner to r/entitledparents [link] [comments]
