Purchased four bags a few weeks ago when it was on offer to mix with grass seed to patch up my lawn. Really happy with the quality of the top soil will definitely be buying again.

Im trying to figure out what seed I should go for overseeing this fall. I’m trying to get more serious about my lawn and I just want to get my lawn more full and fill a couple of spots that are bare. I’ve used grotrax on some spots I removed some bushes with good success. I used it again last year with not the best success lol. I’ve learned about pre germinating my seed so that’s what I want to try this year. I try to water the best that I can but with my work schedule I think this would work better. So far my research has me leaning towards the black beauty ultra and the twin city. Also looked into the Walmart fescue seed but I’m not sure if that’s my best bet. ​ Hello there, new gardener here. Looking to plant some grass seed. Pushed back the hydrangea plant during Christmas and it left lots of dead grass and stuff underneath. Looking to make it nice again. My question is, do I need to put some compost or something on top before I use the grass seed? Should I use some weed cover stuff underneath if I do? So looking at the watering schedule he said it is looking fine but the grass was producing a lot of chaff and neeed aeration. Something feels wrong to me. I don’t see how/when it will bounce back. I don’t know why healthy grass is covered in too soil? I don’t understand how there just won’t be dirt in the grass now. I’m trying to make my lawn look better and I talked to a landscaper around a year ago and he told me to use Kentucky 31. I bought the seed and used that seed on my lawn and after reading a few threads I’m starting to regret the seed that I bought this year. I’m wondering what type of grass do I have? Am I screwed for buying K31? What should I buy? I did it all myself. Starting early spring (MN) I went all in. After de-thatching and aerating, I mixed 20lbs of seed with top soil and laid it down with a peat moss spreader. Then I did 2-5 more layers of soil. I rigged up an above ground sprinkler system with hoses, timers, and pop-up sprinklers with spike bases. The house was built in 2020 and the grass was struggling in the backfill. Nearly zero black dirt was put down. I put nearly 8 yards of dirt down. I think I'm around 2800-3000 sq feet. Why YSK: Depending on where you live in the world, avocado is often sold as this one thing that is the same as any other avocado. It's not! Avocado has incredible an genetic diversity and does not grow true from seed. Sometimes this "not showing what kind of avocado you're getting" is used maliciously to sell shit tasting avocado. Avocado can taste terribly even when perfectly ripe depending on the variant and growing process. I've seen this malicious type of labeling more prominent in Europe, where avocado can be extremely expensive and a complete gamble in terms of quality. Every avocado plant grown from seed produces a new variant that may taste great, meh or terrible. What producers do to try to stabilize taste, is to essentially clone other avocado plants that are known to taste well (grafting). If you slap a label to your particular variety of avocado you get things like Hass, Fuerte, Reed, etc. More info on this genetic variability: "Reasons for the use of clonal avocado rootstocks around the world". and "The unpleasant flavor hinders acceptability of some avocado varieties". And here's a list from 1915 that lists 86 different varieties of avocado and what are they notable for. Imagine how many varieties we have now! Some varieties taste great but spoil quickly or are hard to grow. Some are easy to grow but taste like shit. Two avocados might look similarly but taste wildly different. To add to the genetic complexity, changes in the soil conditions, height, humidity, temperature, water, pests, location, season, etc. can also affect taste. Some city people came out and repaired part of our driveway and threw down some grass seed. That stuff grew in immediately and thick and has never had a single problem with ZERO effort. My grass which is right next to it just can't seem to live, ever.
