Living room painting advice
Just got a new place and trying to decide how to paint this living room and stairwell area. For reference, most of my furniture and decor is mid century modern (think brown leather, wood furniture, lots of burnt orange and sage green accents). My windows face east and north, in case that changes anything. I tend to just keep things white to make spaces feel brighter, but I’m open to new ideas to make the space feel warm and inviting. Thanks for any advice! submitted by /u/ebenzers_luge to r/interiordecorating [link] [comments]

Can I make my living room look more “mid century modern” like the inspo pictures?
I finally bought my first house a few months ago and excited that I can finally start designing my own home. 🙂 I guess you could say my style is more mid century modern? Anyone have any ideas on how to achieve this aesthetic or if it’s even possible? I need to have the hardwood floors redone as there is water damage from the previous owners. I also think the fireplace is throwing it off too. I do love the couch so I am keeping that. Ignore the ugly chair, it came with the house and wanted an idea on layout. submitted by /u/Swimming_SeaShark to r/interiordecorating [link] [comments]

My new living room in process
So, in fall of 2025, I sold my condo in the city. Maybe you might remember the condo- big pink floral wallpaper, yellow cabinets. I posted about it many times. I’d never been happier with some place I’d lived, but my spouse of decades died in the spring. I couldn’t stay. For a new start, I bought a house in my hometown. It’s a little mid-century-ish ranch house with a lot of its’ midcentury stripped away during multiple renovations over the decades. I’m slowly putting myself back together again and at the same time, decorating my new place. I’m kind of at the start of the process. I wanted something very different than my previous place. You’ll notice there’s almost no pink. The vibe is more moody, more warm. I’m hoping for comforting, midcentury eclectic, but kinda kooky and maximalist. Like your art history adjunct professor decorating her house with hand-me-downs, facebook marketplace and the thrift store. I did indulge and buy a set of Danish modern cabinets/bookcases. I bought an interesting vintage sofa on the cheap that I fear was a misstep, but I love its shape. It has loose cushions, so I can sew it a slipcover out of almost anything. I’m not committed to the wall color the place came with, but I’m very fond of the gold yellow. The red chairs have to go. They just don’t fit the vibe as well as being uncomfortable. I’m thinking sofa+loveseat but my sisters have told me to keep the chairs, because only one person will sit on a loveseat. The stair railings have to go as well. I hate them so very, very much. But that’s got to be saved for. And I know the rug is a little too big. I think I can get away with it if I tuck a little bit under the bookcases. They’re just too heavy for me to do that on my own. It’s all a slow process. I’m just at the start. Questions- Would it be weird to replace the chairs with a square-ish, MCM style, small sofa? Something like the Sven by Article in blue leather. Would a small sofa/loveseat look less cluttery like i think? Weird to mix a square sofa with a round one? Would you keep the ceiling fan? So ugly but so practical. submitted by /u/GreenNerdieBirdie to r/femalelivingspace [link] [comments]

Mid-century modern or Art Deco inspiration, please?
My friend is moving into this place at the beginning of January and would love some opinions on how she should decorate it. The room with the couch will become her bedroom, and the room with the bed will become her living room. The room with the fireplace is her for-' entryway. If you could send pictures for inspiration or links to rugs, couches, etc., that would be awesome. Anything helps! submitted by /u/No_Foundation6210 to r/interiordecorating [link] [comments]

M 32, My Living room 1 year on From Moving day, Yorkshire UK.
I got the keys to my own house a year ago next month, and honestly it’s one of the best feelings in the world finally being a homeowner. The place itself is a new build, only completed in May last year, but that didn’t stop me from giving the lounge a full 1970s and Mid Century Modern makeover. Most of the furniture was sourced locally, and I managed to find some incredible bargains. The sofa came from Bridlington for just £50 — a genuine 1969 G Plan that the elderly lady who owned it had kept in immaculate condition, so it still looks practically new. I also picked up pieces from the Nathan “Squares” range, including a corner unit and sideboard, for just £26 and £50 respectively. The orange floor lamp behind the sofa was a £2 find, and the coffee table in the middle of the room cost me £5. But the best deal of all has to be my Bang & Olufsen setup: a Beovision 11 TV, Beolab 2 subwoofer, and Beolab 3 speakers, which I managed to get for around £340 in total. Considering the previous owner paid about £12,000 for it back in 2015, I’d call that a serious score. The Hi-Fi setup to the right corner of the image and the Eames-style chair are pieces I’ve owned for several years. I got back into vintage Hi-Fi in a big way around 2010/2011 and bought the chair in 2018. Now that I’ve moved out, it’s nice to finally have them properly displayed and given pride of place in my lounge. The last picture shows what the lounge looked like on moving in day. submitted by /u/Midcentury_newbuild to r/malelivingspace [link] [comments]

Did I make a mistake with this orange chair?
We just bought this orange corduroy lounge chair today, and now I’m feeling unsure. Our living room has a mix of mid-century modern and neutral tones (earthy browns, greens, and wood elements). The chair definitely stands out, but does it fit the overall aesthetic, or does it look out of place? Would love to hear your thoughts—should we keep it or return it? submitted by /u/Next-Honeydew-3835 to r/interiordecorating [link] [comments]

My living room doesn’t spark joy and I don’t know why
I’m renting an apartment, and my living room doesn’t spark joy. The biggest issue is that it’s really dark during the day. There’s only one window, and the way the house is positioned makes it impossible for natural light to come in. Right now, the room feels cluttered and not cohesive. I’ve been using Ikea furniture since I’m a new grad and on a tight budget, and I’m struggling to find something I truly like in the marketplace. I’d like to invest in some good lighting, but I’m unsure what types of lights would work best. I’m drawn to mid-century modern furniture and would love to work toward that style, but I feel overwhelmed by the options. I also want to get a rug and coffee table, but again, there are so many choices! In terms of wall art, what size would be ideal for pieces to hang above the TV and near the window, on top of the record side table? Could you help me with layout suggestions, tips for decorating with mid-century modern style, and advice on lighting? I’d also love to know what to remove to make the room feel less cluttered and more organized. submitted by /u/Tasty_Shame6156 to r/interiordecorating [link] [comments]
