I got tired of constantly buying chair mats for my home office. I’ve tried every “indestructible” one I could find, and none of them last more than a year before cracking and falling apart. See 2nd picture. At first I thought it was just because I was overweight, but even now that I’m at a healthy weight, I’m still wearing them out. So I decided to think outside the box and try something different. I went with those plastic interlocking tiles people use for garage floors instead of epoxy. Pulled the trigger without even knowing if they’d work on carpet… and honestly, I think I finally solved the problem of spending $60+ every couple years on chair mats. I ended up using Big Floors GarageDeck tiles, but there are plenty of similar brands that would probably work just as well. I only needed one box, which ran about $150. For comparison, two chair mats for the same space would’ve been around $120 anyway. Since these things are designed to hold the weight of a car, I’m pretty confident they’ll hold up a lot better than a flimsy chair mat. Area rug over floor in home office. Plastic mat over carpet to prevent office chair from tearing up carpet. Plastic mat pierced carpet and damaged the floor. Edit to comment: To reiterate for those that don’t read… An area rug was put down first. Because the chair was making tracks in the carpet, I put the plastic mat over it. Apparently the rug wasn’t thick enough to prevent this. Ultimately it was on me for assuming those teeny tiny little nubs wouldn’t pierce through but lesson learned …. Hello again! I have a little update on this carpet situation. I’ve linked my original post for those who are new here! https://www.reddit.com/r/Renters/s/oX9RmfdPSn We meet at the rental property today with the property manager and the real estate manger so we could all properly assess the carpet and discuss everything (including some other things they nitpicked). They are still standing by their opinion that the carpet is damaged and needs to be replaced however they have offered to get a professional opinion. Now this professional opinion is a cleaning company they contract and recommend to tenants so we are cautious for bias. I was able to get an up close video of the carpet clearly showing that there is NO damage from our office chairs, only compression/indents. I even ran my hand over the carpet to loosen up the fibres and I’ve got the comparison photos above. I was also able to get from them our photos from the routine inspection which also clearly show the mats under our chairs in use. This whole situation is honestly so crazy. They watched me and my partner rub the carpet to bring up the fibres and saw the difference it made and are STILL not budging. Even if this does go to QCAT I am confident with our evidence. Hi all, my partner and I recently vacated our first rental, a 6 month contract for a duplex. The agency is contesting our bond for a few things that we’re happy to go back and fix however this one has left us quite frustrated. They are claiming that the carpet in one of the rooms is damaged to the point of needing replacement. I will say we both use Secret Lab chairs so they are heavier than the average office chair but we also have clear plastic mats underneath them. It’s literally impossible for there to be any physical damage to the carpet, they are concerned about only the indents. They will have photos of the mats we used underneath our chairs as they came through and took photos of every room during a routine inspection a couple months ago. I’ll link their photos below. (How do I do this in Excel? How do I DO my job!?) They blame me for everything. (Why are all our emails not coming in?! - They don't even know what email address the "missing" emails are coming from or it's the wrong one. I've become the be all, end all person of choice for anything and everything. Supposedly an IT Director, yet I get knocks on my door for shit ranging from "Hey we got some office furniture delivered can you assemble this for us?" Or "Hey we got a vending machine now if it breaks you're in charge of fixing it or refilling the coffee." I can't take a vacation day without getting a text from an Executive saying "I need this application NOW I need you to install it" Affectively forcing me to go back to the hotel and miss a whole day of fun and festivities with my family. I get chastised about things from the CFO about how we need to be safe and talks about it in meetings, yet I get a call after hours because that SAME CFO clicked on a link doing personal shopping from her work laptop on company network and thinks she got a virus. I run everything SOLO within the company IT wise, maintenance wise, no one wants to use the ticketing system I created. AC Breaks? They call me, Toilet broken? They call me. Want to build 20 chairs? Call me. Want me to show you how to USE a fucking application you should KNOW how to use in your position you were hired for? Call me. I am done. Fuck this whole industry its a joke, people have gotten so fucking stupid that they can't even google anything anymore before picking up a phone. Even with the raises I got, not worth the money anymore. I scheduled a 1 on 1 with the President of the company and wrote out a list of what I should be doing vesus what I am being told to do. The CFO doesn't know SHIT about IT, why are THEY overseeing my department? I would honestly rather flip burgers from dawn to dusk than deal with the mental strain this job puts on me. I can't turn my brain off when I leave because im expected to be available at a moments notice. I get calls day and night off hours and weekends with ZERO help for the last almost 6 years. If the President can't see it im putting in my resignation. No one understands IT anymore, they think we are a fucking stop gap fix all solution for their "problems" If I went to someones office, put down a laptop and said "Hey can you fix this for me?" Their heads would explode, yet they can bring me shit thats NOT my job with NO PROBLEM and ask me to fix it. Fuck that, EXPECT me to fix it. Update: A few users have decided to act like jerks with comments like "Quit being a pu$$y and stick up for yourself". Firstly, the problem lies in being a father of 4 and providing for a family. I don't just up and quit and I don't just flip my boss the bird and say no because thats insubordination and that is how you get fired. Instead I did the smart thing. See, my Fiancee is a lawyer who use to practice business law. She's involved with a group of very powerful attorneys. She decided to start asking questions because she's fed up as much as I am. Turns out, what they are doing is actually incredibly illegal. I cannot go into details because a high profile lawyer has just decided to take my case with a huge smile. What I CAN tell you is, it's illegal to pay someone a salary exempt and work them like this without 3 key things. You have to have a minimum of 2 people you manage directly under you (I have no one) You have to make more than $32k a year (This is the only one I meet) My PRIMARY meaning above 50% work must be managing (I have no one beneath me) tasks. WIth the hard data I have 92% of my tickets emails and texts involve physical labor or maintenance tasks not even close to what my position is. Secondly because I do not meet that criteria this makes my status hourly and also means I am legally required status wise to be Engaged to Wait. Meaning ANYTHING over 40 hours is overtime (1.75x my hourly rate) and because I am solo this means I am expected to be Engaged to Wait 24 hours a day 7 days a week. If a server goes down I get the alerts I handle it day or night. I get phone calls any hour day or night. So, I pulled a record of EVERY ticket, Email, and Text. Ran that through a custom python script and pulled every single after hours ticket, email request you name it. Wrapped it all in a nice file for the the lawyer and the message I got back was a phone call saying "Are you ready to become a millionaire?" Yes, Yes I am. Fuck this industry and fuck everyone who's shit on my vacation time. Next step is lawyer is going to do an extensive review to make sure nothing gets missed and send out an email and demand letter with screenshots of evidences (just enough to show them they don't have a leg to stand on). Also turns out this lawyer is the HEAD of the Bar Association that their lawyers are a part of and the lawyer shed some light on the other boat load of shady things they have been caught doing in the past. This is just the tip of the iceberg apparently because I was forced to do work for another company that the CEO is spinning up another company, and made me use my labor to help create it. Again, theres more to the story but I'll leave it at that. I will post more updates as time goes on unless my lawyer advises against it. I am seriously done being a fucking doormat. Hi all, I have LVP flooring in my home office and recently noticed two gaps forming between the planks. The gaps are located directly under my office chair mat. I’ve been using an IKEA floor protection mat the entire time, but it now looks like the mat hasn’t been sufficient to protect the floor. The floor is about 5 years old, and there is no damage anywhere else. Overall, I've actually been very happy with the flooring. Luckily, I have a few spare planks in storage, so I’m planning to replace the damaged ones. However, I’d really like to prevent this from happening again. What type of chair wheels would you recommend for LVP flooring? Is there anything else I can do to prevent this in the future? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Hi, first post on here and on Reddit in general. I'm a tenant, have little ideas about flooring, and I've been having a problem. A few months back I've replaced an old chair with a new one with the plastic castors (old ones had polyurethane wheels that couldn't fit the new chair). Thought it wouldn't be a problem until I looked under my floor mat (IKEA plastic mat) and saw cracks in the flooring where I sit. I moved to another spot to be sure I didn't continue ruining that part of the floor. I changed the wheels to the polyurethane ones, and I just discovered earlier tonight that the floor still cracked. I did send a maintenance request to the landlord company a few months ago (never responded), so I just sent another request tonight. I'm honestly not sure what to do now and I'm angry at myself over it. I am thinking of ordering a tempered glass mat, but for now, should I move back to the old spot to be sure that I won't damage any other part of the floor? My boss hired his son and he shares an office with me. The kid reeks. Imagine you stick a brick of cheddar cheese between a pair of buttcheeks that haven’t been washed in two weeks and that’s what he smells like. I (29m) worked at a small company as a salesman for the better part of 4 years. As my sales went up my income went down due to restructuring etc. Meanwhile, my boss & I would butt heads pretty frequently but (somehow) not enough to get fired. On my last day, they took my accounts away in the morning but wanted me to stay until 3 for an exit interview. I had already cleaned out my desk and legitimately had nothing to do but wait. There ended up being a box and a half of business cards left over (≈700) that I hid EVERYWHERE. I didn't leave stacks here or there. I hid every individual one. My bosses shades were up so I tucked close to 50 in between the shutters. When the shades close it will rain. I put them under peoples see through rubber mats for their chairs. I tucked them into unused rolls of paper towels so they fell one by one when in the dispenser. We also had a small warehouse with hundreds of boxes. Every single open box ended up with my business card in them. They are hidden throughout the first aid kit, behind pieces of art on the wall, lining the conference room windows, you name it. They will be finding my cards for YEARS to come. My ( F39) fiance Jason ( M39) and I have been together for 3 years, engaged for 6 months. We live together. His brother Chuck (M38) is a mess and we don't get along. Chuck is super into conspiracy theories, loves to ride coat tails and the string of exes that hate him could fill up a highway. The story is very much the same in every case. He meets the girl, does some serious love bombing, gains access to her things, then cheats, gets caught and gets dumped. Rinse and repeat. I tried to keep a distant but cordial relationship with him until I learned that one of his exes almost self offed and he seemed flattered. Also, his jokes began to get more and more personal until I realized that he was just brazen and disrespectful. I cut ties with him and this has caused severe problems in my relationship with Jason. Chuck started a relationship with Emma early this year. She seems to be well to do and let him use her car. I don't have the entire story but supposedly, she broke up with him while he was out of town. She kept asking for her car back and he kept pushing the date to return it. So she called the police and reported it as stolen. She took him back a few weeks later, only to end things abruptly. We had to go pick Chuck up at a train station. All his belongings were inside trash bags. He had no money for a ticket or even for a meal. He was visibly agitated, and Jason called me out for showing no interest. Then Chuck explained why it happened. I was expecting it. He got caught cheating and all broke loose. He even lost his job because he worked for her close friend and was locked out of the house. Jason asked me to let his brother sleep over at our place so I agreed because it was already too late at night. I was very specific that I will not live with his brother under the same roof. Chuck moved in with his close friend but has already been told that he needs to leave. Jason asked me to give his brother a chance which is a huge NO for me, and he's gone from begging me to demanding. This has me feeling very disappointed because I feel like he's overriding my feelings. Well, I came home early and found the TV on. It was weird and it scared me. I went into our bedroom and found Chuck sleeping on our bed. I have no words to describe how much I hate him. He always destroys everything. This time he peed all over the bathroom mat and I found out because of the smell. No one else does that. I think he also went into my small office space in the family room because my chair was moved into the living room. I called Jason immediately. I wanted him to deal with his brother but I didn't get any support. He yelled at me and said I was fucking around and was about to find out and it sounded like a threat to break up.
