Built a tool to solve some everyday analog photography frustrations (dev timer + roll tracking)
Hey everyone, I’ve been working on something for the past few months and wanted to finally share it here. It started out of frustration with existing development timers—I messed up a few rolls myself, and most tools felt incomplete or not really built for how I shoot and develop. I wanted something simpler and more reliable. While building that, I realized tracking rolls and managing film inventory was just as annoying—forgetting what’s loaded in which camera, losing track if I don’t shoot regularly, opening boxes just to check stock… I’m sure many of you can relate. So I decided to combine everything into one place. I had to start from scratch, learn as I went, and slowly shape it into something actually usable. It took longer than expected, but I finally feel ready to share it. 👉 https://www.milesonfilm.com It’s not a traditional app (no downloads needed). Just open the link and use it. If you like it, you can add it to your home screen and use it like an app. Would genuinely love for you all to try it out and share feedback—what works, what doesn’t, and what you’d want to see next. I already have a few more ideas planned. Thanks 🙌 submitted by /u/Milesonfilm2024 to r/AnalogCommunity [link] [comments]

DIYer Is the Rolling Drawer Base Worth it Over Box
I’m not a tradesman so I’m not rolling a large base of pack outs every day. Love the drawer design for ease of access though I don’t imagine stacking more than one extra Packout drawer system. Still appreciate the design of the drawer. I’m currently torn between which to get since I should really be practical and get the box and use the $75 saved for some smaller Packout organizers. That honestly would be enough for my current set of tools. Anyone want to sway me one way or another. I see most people here really need the system and my use case is waaaayyy lighter. submitted by /u/ImSorryImSoFat to r/Packout [link] [comments]

My first Gunpla. PGU RX-78.
Il start off by saying as a child I would build really complex Lego’s and airfix models the last time I touched an airfix model was when I was 13, it’s a 1:24 scale spitfire with electric motor. My paint jobs were shit but it is what it is, and it’s probably why I jumped straight into this. I’m not saying mine is the best but I’m damn happy with it, and feels good to reconnect with a past hobby. I didn’t do any painting either only some markers panel lining water decals and lots of top coat! Also if anyone knows where I can get a good display case let me know thank you! I’m going to include all the tools I purchased for this because I think if any novice wants to get into this it’s perfectly ok to start here and better to know total cost to achieve this result than doing what I did which is thinking it would only cost me what I paid plus some minor tools. The build was extensive. I really enjoyed the details of building the inner frames. It’s a really therapeutic process too. Finding the runner, the. Cutting the part off, sanding it making sure it’s good before placing and snapping to fit. Organisation is key also. Once I got to the amour stage I got aluminium trays and cut each body part into a dedicated tray. Left leg and another one for right leg ect. The reason I did this was that after I did the water slides I would be able to get a body part topcoateded and the. Place back into the same box and repeat. So I would know what each part is and where it belongs. Once all the pieces were sanded and clean I went and rescribed the panel lines to make deeper grooves. I did not add new lines but I did purchase panel line tape to make sure I didn’t get scratches (I had scratches) I used the pour type panel line markers and 70iso alcohol with a cotton bud to clean the excess. I would say the scribing was annoying only when coming to oddly angled lines and cleaning the crud is not easy. However cleaning the ink was way worse as too much liquid and your ink goes and not enough but poor cleaning technique and the ink goes too. Take your time sanding with the Gunprimer raser and also use the grey sanding stick and white where needs be. The grey I used 2 sticks in my build and also the sandloop flex 800 grit on the red shield part as it comes kinda scratched and with injection squiggly thingy so if you sand it with the 800 grit then go over with the grey balance stick then the white stick use the Gunprimer cloth and then go over with the grey stick again dust all the parts and cloth it again you’ll be good to go! That brings me to things I did not like. DECALS! Man they were a pain in the ass to align must use a toothpick to align after taking out of water with tweezers. I found that certain decals would move around even when rolling your cotton ear swab thingy (not all the time but enough that it would happen multiple times per section. It’s kinda hard to align decals that need “connect” to another side or look uniform across opposite sides but getting as close as possible to perfect is good and an accomplishment. Also do yourself a favour and order two decal sheets. Keep in mind sometimes using the mr mark setter or softener will make your ink leak or disappear even if it has been days so less is more! Also what is great with the extra decal sheets is you can add extra decals to your gundam I added decals onto his sword gun and left leg since it felt iquite empty. That said by far the worse the worst part was using topcoat. Few things I will say. I did not have a spray booth. I used a cardboard box I had the GSI Cross GT90 clips and sprayed each part in that cardboard box. My doors or windows were not open due to the cold weather in london I had the heating on and my kitchens extractor fan on that was too far away to do anything. My god does this thing go everywhere the dust will spread across your house even if you’re spraying in a box. Like I said I’m new to spraying I also did not think it would be so bad or that I would end up creating a dust sandstorm. If i was to spray again I would get one of those fancy boxes with a fan that sucks all the air out too. So a few things about spraying. You will need more than 36 clips, I only bought one pack and while I was good to go for each leg. If you leave one part drying for 12h and want to spray another part you won’t have enough clips for all the parts you need like an extra 5 clips or so. Just get two packs. Find a place to put those sticks. I just shoved them through another box to keep them upright. Second point. I highly highly recommend you get the MR TOPCOAT PREMIUM MATT UV! Firstly the uv protection is great but the premium Matt is wayy smoother and cleaner looking than normal Matt and the premium Matt. This can is worth the price. And thirdly get more bottles than you think you need. I had originally purchased two cans… then I purchased 4cans… then I purchased an extra can.. to only realise that’s not enough and it’s the weekend. Thankfully there was a gentleman selling on eBay who was 45mins by car. Drove to him and purchased two more cans only to get to the last body part and there was not enough spray. I drove to him the next day once more to purchase another can. And I still think I could have purchased one more to be safe as that did run out. So in total 10 cans+1 small can… when spraying it’s toxic and kn95 masks are useless. Also definitely do a light coat first make sure it’s wet but not that wet and those dots disappear also blow on parts and dust them off before spraying. Any dust will stick to the part permanently unless you scratch it out! After 15 min passes usually it will take you longer to spray each section, you can then spray once again slower and more wet than before. This is your final layer. Leave to dry 12h plus. Important to note. Warm can first spray away from part before onto part and a distance of 20cm or so. Second pass can be closer but not that much or you will get forsting. I unfortunately had on a few parts. To fix this mistake I waited 12h purchased a small can of premium topcoat glossy sprayed it and let it cure. After it dissolved some of the frost I went over it with matt twice or 3 times depending on how it felt to touch. The top coat is a game changer makes the biggest difference and it takes your toy from looking like a toy to a display piece and custom. Using the premium gloss can I had I decided to spray only the guns sight finder in it. Covering any internal parts either yellow tape. Before attaching each part onto his body I sort of soft placed parts to see what clips are visible as there are clip holes visible from the outer armour. These I used a thicker GM marker in gold silver or gun metal for accent lining. Really simple go over that section with said marker like a sharpie and wait to dry 45 mins and place part ontop. What is left is like bolt parts. And pegs that go through colour. I did mostly gold his body. Some areas I forgot to do and had already placed body panels on him. These will nap if you are not careful. Make sure you test before fully securing! Anyway build enjoy and display. Also get the Gunprimer gate remover gate with the raser filer plus god hands these are a must. List of parts. I’m not including all the shipping but for all the items from OEShop I paid £13.47 and the ones where I paid a lot to have next day I’ve included it in the list. A huge thank you to OEShop. You made purchasing tools I knew nothing about simple. Your prices are the best and the customer service is above and beyond. My 40 hour work week is 90%, walking back and forth doing nothing until I decide to sit in the bathroom to “poop” and then play on my phone.
I probably go “poop” atleast 5 times a day for 30min. The rest of my day consists of, walking back and forth, talking with people. Going to the office and talking with people (talking about nothing work related) The 10% of my job where I actually HAVE to do something is actually super essential. Most days I wonder “why am I even here? Can’t they just call me in when they need something?” ( I am a robotics and hydraulic mechanic/programmer for a factory) they only time I’m needed is when something breaks or goes wrong, yet I’m here for 8 hours a day 5 days a week. I’m not complaining, but I’m just wondering, is this normal? Does anyone else have this experience? (I’m currently at work in the bathroom “pooping”) To note- in my 5 years here, of me doing this consistently everyday, nobody has ever, not even once, mentioned anything about my bathroom time, noticed I was gone too long, nothing. Infact I’ve received multiple raises, been told I’ve been doing a good job, but in reality, I pretty much have no idea what I’m doing here. Edit- I see a lot of people saying that this is an office job. I just want to clear the air and say it is not an office job I walk into work into a Walmart sized open floor factory, with giant machines and robots making parts 24/7. I have a big tool box that rolls around, and a laptop inside. When I say that I go to the office to talk to people, I mean the other people that have offices. I wish I had an office. I wish I was legitimately busy so I could go home feeling like I accomplished something, but I’m at a point in my life where I’ve reached stability and the job pays the bills and provides for my family and 401k building I can’t really jump ship and start over somewhere else. And for what it’s worth, I always dreamed of being an Astronomer or Marine Biologist. Instead I fix machines that make garbage cans. Life and some stupid irreversible decisions took me on a path and here I am, that’s why I made this post, because I feel like my job lacks meaning, I’m bored out of my mind, everyone is “so proud” of me for turning my life around and getting a decent job, but I’m not proud of myself, because what I’m doing has no sense of wonder or meaning, just making more garbage cans for corporations. submitted by /u/ArcBlamer to r/antiwork [link] [comments]

Who else uses their free bucket as a tool box?
I live in an apartment with rules preventing me from working on my car there. My parents live close by, so I pack up my tools and work on vehicles in their driveway. I bring several Dewalt Toughsystem drawer boxes, and a couple HFT free buckets. One bucket is always ready to go with expendibles, my rubber gloves, shop rags, blue paper towels, zip ties, wheel chocks, pinch weld adapters, PB Blaster, and brake cleaner. The second bucket is usually filled with tools from other drawers I'm not bringing, I have a 14 tool roll I fill with pliers galore, also a little zipper case full of trim tools, and the magnetic mat all fit with the lid on. Depending on the task being tackled, a third bucket may join, such as if I'm draining the coolant. Who else uses their free buckets for hauling around their tools? submitted by /u/skingld to r/harborfreight [link] [comments]

You want it? No problem
I hate my mother in law, she is the most narcissistic self serving human I’ve ever met. I dread having to see her, she’s like a black hole of misery and anxiety sucking the joy from life everywhere she goes. Thankfully she lives in Long Island and is too scared to drive out of there so we rarely see her, once or twice a year. We have three kids and she’s only visited one in the last 5 years because she bought a fucking lamp from an auction in Greenwich CT which is only 30 minutes from us, so shes perfectly fine to drive off the Island for a lamp but god forbid it’s your grandchild’s birthday… I digress. About 5 years ago my wife and I bought her uncles cabin in upstate NY, beautiful 17 acres, the cabin was a little run down but we fixed it up, we try and go up there as much as often in the summer. The property had a few sheds with tools and whatnot and two tractors, big old Ford farm tractors. When we bought it, we specified “all contents conveys” her uncle didn’t care about any of the stuff as it’s all used for upstate activities, what is he going to do with a tractor in Bay Ridge. Well after we bought it my mother in law called and said, she has stuff there and it’s hers and she wants it. she inherited it from her other brother who passed away, she said the chainsaws, one of the tractor (the shit one) and a shop vac was hers along with a bunch of misc stuff in one of the sheds, tools she will never use and don’t even know what they do. My wife was a little taken aback. We told her she should have come and gotten everything before we closed, we use some of the tools but have our own so I don’t really care. We wanted to take down the shed that has her tractor in so we told her we can sell the tractor and we’ll give her the money. She said no she wants to keep the tractor. We told her a few times we were planning on getting rid of that shed to build a garage and we need to get rid of the tractor and we can bring her the other stuff next time we come down. She was threatening to sue us if we sold any of “her stuff” as she’s not ready to part with it. My wife was really upset. I told her not to worry I’ll take care of it. The next weekend we were upstate, I had rolled the tractor out of the shed, and put together her mom’s stuff. My wife asked me what I was doing. I said just putting your moms stuff together. She asked why, I said so we can give it to her or sell it or she can sell it but it’s gotta go. I’m starting the garage tomorrow. She said “whatever it can sit out side I don’t care”. That night after everyone fell asleep, I hatched my plan, I had hooked up my trailer. I loaded the tractor which doesn’t run so I had to winch it on real quiet like as to not wake anyone. I loaded her tool box, all the misc tools in the shed, chainsaws, shop vac into a big ass wooden crate about 4’x4’ 3’ tall, because fuck her. And hit the road, it’s 2.5 hours to my mother in laws house, I was trucking. I got there at about 2 am. I quietly backed into her driveway, thankfully I’m a pro trailer backer upper, put the ramps right next to her car, put down the ramps and had to jack up the trailer a bit to get it to slowly roll off using the winch. Jacks are fucking loud, but I put down a sweater to try and deaden the noise, I put the crate on a dolly and rolled it off down next to the tractor. It was heavy as hell, so I knew I had to get my dolly back so she can’t move it, so I jacked it up to slide it off, easily 300 lb box. The entire time I can’t believe I haven’t been caught, she lives in a nice neighborhood and I just started doing sketchy shit at 2am the cops didn’t show up? Whatever. I must have been there for 20 minutes max, I was hustling and had arranged everything for easy offload. I get out of there laughing my ass off, a grin ear to ear. I know I’m in trouble with my wife in the morning… I was almost home, it’s 5:45 and my wife is calling, she asked where I went? I told her I went to get breakfast for everyone. So I stopped, bought a bunch of bagels and coffee and donuts. Just giggle to myself like a serial killer at 6am on a Saturday. I get home and she asked why I still had the trailer hooked up, I says oh I wasn’t sure if I was going to the lumber yard or not and I didn’t feel like unhooking it. I’m trying to hide my excitement for the call, jacked up with adrenaline. 8 am rolled around, nothing, 8:30 nothing. Luckily it was a little chilly so no one had gone out side to see the tractor is gone. 9:15 the call came, I see her look at her phone and roll her eyes, ugh, she hates her mom. I tell her to pick up, as soon as she picks up you can hear her screaming, my wife is like what the fuck is happening. I walk over put my hand out, put the phone on speaker and say “you wanted your tractor, you got it” and hung up. I had to explain what I’ve done to my wife and she was dying laughing. Thankfully. Black hole called about 10 more times all going unanswered. She then texted, I’m calling the police. My wife is starting to panic a bit. I tell her don’t worry, I’ll handle it. About 1pm a long island number comes up as xxx town police, oh shit. I pick up. “This is officer so and so, I’m here with black hole, she said you dumped stuff on her property. I calmly said “that’s her stuff, she wanted it” officer “is this your tractor” black hole “yes but I don’t want it here, I want them to take it back” he says something like do you have a storage agreement or anything? She says no. I explained the situation to him and said there’s nothing I can do as there wasn’t anything wrong unless she wanted to press trespassing charges, but you’d have to prove he was on your property. Anyone could have dropped it off. At this point the officer had realized this lady is bat shit crazy, and didn’t want to deal with this. I thought I might actually get in trouble. Anyway she didn’t talk to us for like 6 months so really it was a win win for me. submitted by /u/All_fowl to r/pettyrevenge [link] [comments]

DIY a workbench, or buy a rolling tool cart?
I'm trying to upgrade my workbench/tool storage in my garage, and am wondering which would be better to start with. I've drawn up some plans for a DIY workbench out of 4x4's, 2x4's, and plywood, which would cost me about $200-250 to build. It would be aprox 3' x 8' which would be a really nice wide work space, with a lower shelf as well for bin storage. I've never really built anything like this before, but do have a circular saw that I figure I can manage to rough cut everything to be close enough. ( and hopefully have home depot cut the 4x8 plywood into a 3x8 for me ) Alternatively, I've been thinking of just buying a rolling tool cart with a wooden top for about $350. Its a lot smaller workspace, but having all the drawers for tool storage would be super nice, as my current small tool box is overflowing, and about half of my tools are in unorganized storage bins. One thing to note, is the house i'm in is a rental, so it would almost be certain that the workbench would be staying with the house whenever we move out, the tool cart I could take with me, but that also means the workbench I can kind of cheap out on using some lower grade materials since I'll only be in this house for 3-5 years. Ideally i'd have both, a tool cart to store my tools, and then the bench to have a space to work. submitted by /u/MyGardenOfPlants to r/Workbenches [link] [comments]

Warcry Tool Box v1
Hey everyone, Been a hot minute since I posted in here about a project I was working on. I burned out pretty hard on it just cos I didnt have great access to 3d printers for a while but im back now with a fully complete version of what im calling the Warcry Toolbox! I wanted a kit of tokens and rulers and a dice tracker for the game which sort of spiraled into this! It has: The dice tracker with a card slot that holds cards for your team and terrain cards with 2 slots for 2 x 6" inch rulers a card storage tray for some smaller cards and the large team cards you get in official boxes a token box with 8x wait tokens 8x half activation tokens and 16x fully activated tokens 16x 1 damage tokens 16x 3 damage tokens 8x 5 damage tokens 8x 10 damage tokens 2x of each unit token (ie shield hammer dagger) 6x treasure tokens And space for 25 16mm dice (or smaller dice if you dont mind the rattle) A little space under all that in the main box for minis, laser pointer, small terrain and anything else you wanna put in there And the lid is a decent sized dice tray for rolling in. I think i got everything haha! Let me know what you think! Would you use this? Im thinking of setting up a little store for physical units and files for printing yourself? Would people be interested? Thanks for letting me yap at you guys, i hope you like the Toolbox! submitted by /u/Holmesy_34 to r/WarCry [link] [comments]

Upgraded to the rolling drawer tool box
The rolling tool chest was good to me. Got it off some tweaker for $60, he was shaking the entire time he held the cash but I was right there with him shaking as I held my first pack out. submitted by /u/BorrachoDave to r/MilwaukeeTool [link] [comments]

Joy-Con Detachment Update: Part 3 (We Fixed It)
Hey Reddit, Quick reminder of where we left off on our last update: we were testing two solutions to address the Joy-Con detachment issue. Solution #1: A refined version of the current Joy-Con Grip design, featuring a thinner retaining lip. This solution would offer a marked improvement over not only the “bad” (out-of-tolerance) retaining lip that gave rise to this issue, but a noticeable improvement over even the “good” stock. Solution #2: A completely redesigned Joy-Con Grip, intended to eliminate the detachment issue altogether. The catch was that it was unlikely to be mass-producible. Despite the risk on Solution #2, we moved forward with re-tooling one of our mass production tools, aiming to do a production trial on July 10th. Today is July 10th and we’ve got good news: it worked. https://i.redd.it/c6i3t71fr4cf1.gif Pretty soon, you’ll be able to hold your Switch 2 as wrong as you want, without any detachment. In all seriousness, now that the solution has been validated in a production environment, we’re in the process of copying the “Solution 2” modification to every other mold in our mass production library. Also, since “Solution #2” doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue, we’ve given it a name: Joy-Lock™. By early next week, we’ll share a production schedule that outlines when you’ll be able to claim your free Joy-Lock replacements, and when you can expect them to ship. As we've mentioned in various replies across the subreddit, we'll also be addressing the issue of one-handed undocking on our Dock Adapter. Along with every Joy-Lock replacement, we’ll be sending out a set of silicone friction pads, designed to keep the Dock Adapter snugly seated on the OEM Dock. Of course, we’ll also include instructions on where to install them. Below are two clips, demonstrating the “before” and “after” of one-handed undocking. Before: the Dock Adapter refuses to let go of your Switch 2. After: the Dock Adapter stays exactly where it should. Any unshipped orders (and all new production) will include both the Joy-Lock Grips in the box and pre-installed friction pads on the Dock Adapter. For those who have already received their order (or have it currently in-transit): expect an email early next week with further details on redemption and shipment timing. No action is required on your end to determine eligibility, we'll be emailing everyone who's either received their Switch 2 Killswitch or had it ship. For those who have not yet had their pre-order ship: expect an email at the same time, detailing when to expect your shipment. As a reminder, this shipment will include all corrected stock in the box. Side-note: we’ve also worked with our cable manufacturer to introduce a higher stringency on filtering out lemons (usually caused by misaligned traces or bad pins) prior to consumers receiving the Dock Adapter. While our current lemon rate is hovering around the industry-standard of 0.5%, this higher stringency should bring the lemon rate on unshipped orders an order of magnitude lower, to about 0.05%. As always, if you've received a lemon, just let us know at [ [email protected]](mailto: [email protected]) and we'll get a replacement shipped out. submitted by /u/dbrand to r/dbrand [link] [comments]

Adios my auto mechanic brothers
Tool box rolled out of the shop yesterday in into the home garage. After 18 years of being a Ford Diesel tech I've had enough. Moving on to work for a power tool company performing diag and repairs starting Monday, at an hourly rate with overtime and getting 20 days PTO to start. Gonna miss the guys I worked with, but not the stress and the lack of perceived value we gave the company even though we had to, know all, be all, and do all to keep the shop running. Maybe someday I'll get my passion for cars back, here's to hoping. submitted by /u/Cnessel27 to r/Justrolledintotheshop [link] [comments]

ProTip: Don’t Keep a tool box at work.
So industry standard is supply your own tools, everyone runs out and buys a Kennedy tool box to keep at work. Don’t do this: 1: We machine with huge bay doors open anyone can walk in during an all hands meeting and walk off with your box. Your employers insurance covers his stuff not yours… everyone knows tool boxes and tools worth a pawn shop trip for a quick paycheck 2: makes it harder for when you’re laid off “But it’s faster” You’re paid hourly, deducting your pay in order for your boss to make a profit… so he doesn’t have to buy tools or maintain them… if it takes you 20 mins to get a socket set out of your backpack then he gets to pay you for that. Never keep more tools at a shop or equipment at a shop that you can’t carry out quickly when fired or laid off. Frequently pair down the tools you keep at work, haven’t used those knipex pliers in a year? They go home. Been a year since you last used that box cutter? Home it goes I personally do a locker clean out every Friday. These safety glasses not my preferred pair home they go. Keep it light don’t let your box get heavy If you keep a big ass 2- bay tool box loaded with 10k worth of tools (very easy these days with the prices) it’s harder to roll that box out of there And you may reconsider leaving the shop for an extra $2/hr But if you have one of those electrician backpack tool bags and all you have to do is close the snap case of your calipers and shove it into your backpack And keeping that desk clean of personal items Then you’ll jump ship without hesitation Edit: seems there is a group of lower IQ types that think I’m telling them not to buy tools. (Dept of labor has machinist IQ at 85 so I guess I over shot on a lot of you…. So buy the tools you need but don’t keep them in a heavy ass box that will weight a ton that is difficult to move use a tool bag and take your stuff home ) submitted by /u/Fickle_fackle99 to r/Machinists [link] [comments]
