How do I tell him I appreciate his “gifts”, but he can stop bringing them in my bedroom.
Four years ago while working on a landfill, the cat distribution system decided I needed a tiny malnourished kitten. He climbed up a tree and out on a limb that hung over my truck. I had no choice but to bring him home and get him medical attention. The vet excitedly said “Wooow, I haven’t seen that parasite in real life yet!” $1000 later, Triton (now 4M) is neutered, vaccinated, happy, healthy, and living his best life. I purchased my house with my cat and dog (12F) in mind. It has a small fully enclosed back yard with a 6 foot privacy fence that is flush with the ground. Neither can go under or over the fence. It allows them to go in and out of the house via an electronic doggie door at their leisure. Both can usually be found sprawled out in the grass, or sitting on the patio furniture. Unfortunately some big rats have taken advantage of a couple neighbors that are not good at yard upkeep. Every week or so, a rat somehow wanders into the yard, and is quickly dispatched by Triton. Usually, he leaves them in the yard. I am perfectly fine with this arrangement. With all this practice, Triton has begun catching birds and chipmunks too. With great frequency and efficiency. Yesterday, I was sitting in my bedroom, when Triton entered and plopped a bird right on my lap. Today, I hear some squeaking, and when I investigate, I find that he has brought a very much alive chipmunk into my bedroom. He dropped it on my bed, it took off, and I have spent the evening trying to find and free said chipmunk. My son said he saw it run under his bed, which is a truly terrifying place. Does anyone have advice/strategies on how to dissuade His Royal Majesty from bestowing me with his gifts inside my (his) house? submitted by /u/KittyHasFastClaws to r/CATHELP [link] [comments]

Tiny Pokémon home Build ! 🍀🌴🏡
This is my first build 🤗A community home for all my tiny Pokémon🥰🧸 there are 3 separate houses combined in here. Basically 3 closed off sections. I wanted to fit as many tiny Pokémon here as possible so I have a first floor, second floor and then the balcony. The house is filled up with random furniture, so that’s why I didn’t really showcase it. But I am definitely proud of how the outside looks. It’s 10x10. I believe I can home up to 15 Pokémon here. submitted by /u/GraphicReyna to r/Pokopia [link] [comments]

AITA for refusing to let my in-laws stay with us
Originally posted by user CupcakeMuse in r/ AITAH Original: Feb 21, 2025 Update: Feb 22, 2025 Status: concluded Note: thanks to u/Turuial for the suggestion to BORU ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Original: AITA for refusing to let my in-laws stay with us after they constantly criticize our home and lifestyle? I (30F) am married to my husband, “Alex” (32M), and we have a fairly small, cozy house that we’re really proud of. We’ve put a lot of effort into making it our own, and while it’s not huge or fancy, it’s comfortable and suits our needs. My husband and I both work from home, and we’ve tried to create a peaceful space that reflects our values and priorities. However, my in-laws (Alex's parents) have been constantly critical of everything. Whenever they visit, they complain about how small the house is, how we don’t have enough space for “entertaining,” how our furniture isn’t to their taste, and how we don't have a "proper" guest room. I’ve tried to take it in stride, but it’s really starting to get to me. They’ve made comments like “You could really use a bigger house to start a family” or “How do you manage without a second bathroom?” as if we should be apologizing for our choices. Recently, Alex and I decided to take a vacation, and my in-laws asked if they could stay at our place while we were gone. I was hesitant because of how they’ve treated our home in the past, but I didn’t want to cause any conflict. I told Alex that I wasn’t comfortable with them staying over, especially since they’ve been so vocal about how much they dislike it here. Alex insisted that it was the polite thing to do, but I drew a line and said, "I don’t want them here if they’re just going to trash talk our home behind our backs." I also reminded him of how they had constantly undermined our lifestyle choices, and that having them stay here would only make me feel uncomfortable and stressed out. He got upset and said I was being petty, and that I should just let it go since it’s “only for a few days.” Now, Alex is upset with me for refusing to host them, and I’m feeling torn. I don’t want to create tension in my marriage, but I also don’t want to constantly be made to feel like our choices and space aren’t good enough. He thinks I’m overreacting, but I just don’t want to feel like I’m inviting criticism into my own home. AITA for refusing to let my in-laws stay with us? Or am I being unreasonable? -------------------------------------------- Comments: Comment1: NTA and I don’t even understand why they would want to stay in your home while you’re gone. Like they don’t have their own house? 😭 Comment2: They want to decorate the house to their own style? Sell the house without them there?i only can think a about bad things. There is no reason for them to Stay there that is a positive one. ---------- Comment3: I would suspect a "we redecorated your house because we care" plan about to go into effect. Comment4: It’s weird that they would want to stay in your house when you’re not there. Even more weird given their dislike for the house. NTA Comment5: A lot of people here are asking the super obvious question - why do they want to stay at your place? An embarrassing emergency, like the bank is foreclosing on their house? They have fleas or bedbugs and it needs fumigating? Why haven't YOU asked them? Why is your husband so nonchalant about it that HE doesn't think it's weird? There's a big piece missing from the picture that makes it hard to judge. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Update (next day) First of all, I want to thank everyone for their support and advice. I was feeling really conflicted about the whole situation, and reading through the comments gave me a lot of perspective. A special thank you to those who pointed out the possibility that my in-laws might have been planning to redecorate while we were away. I honestly hadn’t even considered that, but when I heard them talk about “helping us make our home more presentable” and “maybe redecorating,” it became clear that some of the things people mentioned were spot on. You definitely helped me realize I wasn't overreacting when I thought they were treating our home like a project instead of a place we’ve put our hearts into. After some more honest conversations with Alex, he came to understand where I was coming from. He agreed that it wouldn’t be fair to let his parents stay in our home when they've been so vocal about their criticism. He acknowledged how it made me feel uncomfortable and stressed, and he apologized for initially brushing off my concerns. We both agreed it was best to set boundaries and prioritize our peace. So, I did have the conversation with my in-laws, and while they weren't thrilled about it, I tried to explain my point of view calmly. I told them that it wasn’t about rejecting them personally, but about how their constant criticism of our space made me feel unwelcome in my own home. To my surprise, Alex backed me up during the conversation, which meant a lot. However, things took an interesting turn when my in-laws got really upset about our decision. They didn’t hold back in expressing their disappointment, with his mom saying, “If you're so sensitive about your tiny house, maybe you should reconsider hosting anyone ever again.” His dad mentioned that they were “just trying to help us make our home more presentable” and “would’ve even redecorated while we were away.” This part took me aback. Apparently, they had planned on rearranging furniture, buying new pieces, and possibly even repainting while we were on vacation. It honestly felt like they saw our home as a project rather than a place that we’ve intentionally created for ourselves. Alex didn’t know about the redecoration plans either, which only added to the tension. We ended up standing firm on our decision, and while it was awkward, I feel like it was the right choice. The parents have been quieter since, but I can tell there’s some lingering resentment. Alex and I have agreed to keep things clear with them moving forward—while we’re happy to host them, we’ll make sure they respect our space and our choices. I still feel a bit uneasy about the situation, but I’m proud that we handled it together. I’m also realizing that this might be an ongoing issue, but we’re in a stronger place as a couple now. Thanks again for all the advice! It helped a lot in sorting through my feelings. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- REMINDER: I am not OOP. Im not 100% finished with everything but its certainly getting there. My dog loves to photobomb. EDIT: The amount of comments here are quite overwhelming. I would like to answer all of you individually, but im afraid it would take way too long. Thank you all, truly, for your kind words, condolences, constructive feedback and uplifting comments. I never expected this type of response on this post. Almost makes a grown man want to cry. (he did, a tiny bit) The dog loves all the attention! To clarify the story: my grandfather build this house in the late 60’s, then my father inherited it in the late 90’s (he was as young as i am now, funny how that works) and i was born shortly after. Through the years he has totally renovated the place, inside and out. Sadly in the start of march my father passed away peacefully in this very home. Im sure he would have loved to read all the kind comments about our house. Mostly to keep busy i redid the living room as pictured, moved most of my things out of my bedroom, and bought some new furniture. and did some other smaller things around the house. The kitchen is untouched. I have lived in this house all my life, and i plan to do so with the rest of it, too. Room in Brooklyn co-op available on May 1st (~$1250/month INCLUDING groceries)
Hi! We’re Swamp Dog Hobble (named after a native plant). We have a room opening in our home on May 1st. (Photos show the open room): About us: We’re a communal house (a house! a community!) in Flatbush. This house has: • Four bathrooms, seven bedrooms + a basement, one tiny guest room, two kitchens, at least four common rooms, a music room with a grand piano • An emerging food forest with a Hügelkultur mound, raised beds, greens, veggies, fruit trees and 2,600 pounds of compost • ~1000 books, a washer/dryer, large porch, large garage with a wood-shop and a gazebo (soon-to-be greenhouse or dance studio?!) We live near Brooklyn College, at the end of the 2/5 lines, about 45 minutes from downtown Manhattan, 25 minutes from Jacob Riis beach and a brisk walk away from the new Shirley Chisholm Recreation Center. Average monthly cost of living is ~$1250 which includes rent, utilities, groceries, the cost of which is always shared. This number fluctuates from person to person in proportion to income and general financial anxiety; not based on the qualities of this or that room (though lately our contributions have been similar). What does "communal house" mean to us? Basically, we like to be involved in each other’s lives! We sit down at least once a week for dinner together, we check in with each other, we paint rooms new colors; there are big dinner parties, live shows, sourdough focaccia bakes on the weekends when the weather is right; we like projects, we like to do stuff; we draw in the stairways, move furniture around, cook for each other, and share the labor of keeping our house running. Every week, we work together to cook about 10 gallons of food that gets distributed at Tompkins Distro. What else? Raucous laughter. Juggling. CDs playing on the first floor. Freezers full of bread and goodies. Piano duets. Sharing food with our neighbors. Everyone’s always in the middle of telling a story. We’ve a moving river, an evolving, transforming community built on our relationships with one another. We're looking to add a member who will bring their individuality and passion to our space and who wants to participate in our co-living project. If this sounds like you, please email us at [ [email protected]](mailto: [email protected]) and share: (1) a little about yourself and your values and experiences living/collaborating with other people (2) how you express your creativity (3) a conflict you've navigated in the past between someone you've lived with (4) what you've been excited about lately in your life. We'll reach back out to schedule time for you to meet some of our members and learn more about the space! Also, just a note, we are unfortunately NOT a pet-friendly apartment as some members have allergies. Sorry! submitted by /u/kingbumiii to r/NYCapartments [link] [comments]

AITJ for locking my patio storage bench after my neighbor kept treating it like shared seating for her guests?
I live in a small apartment complex with those ground floor patios that are technically private but very visible from the courtyard. Mine is tiny, just two chairs, a plant shelf, and one storage bench where I keep gardening stuff, a blanket, and my shoes if they are muddy. Since spring started, my next door neighbor has been having people over a lot more. Fine. Not my business. What became my business was that her guests kept ending up on my patio because "there was more room," and specifically on my storage bench. At first I thought maybe it was a one time thing, but it kept happening. I would come home and find half empty cans on my little table, my bench scooted three feet over, and once my cushion on the ground because somebody had apparently decided it looked better there. I asked her twice to stop using my patio furniture. She laughed and said I was being kind of intense because it is "all basically one shared outdoor area visually." Last weekend I came home and there were three people sitting on my bench while she was inside grabbing drinks. One of them actually apologized and said she told them it was fine. So the next morning I bought a simple outdoor lock for the bench lid and looped it through the frame so it cannot be moved without undoing it. It looks a little ridiculous, I know. Now she is offended because she says I made the courtyard look "hostile" and embarrassed her in front of company. A couple neighbors think I could have handled it less pettily, but I honestly got tired of my patio turning into overflow seating for peolpe I do not know. Very nervous about leaving Maple home alone for so many hours
Picture of my gorgeous Maple girl. - Maple is 6 months old and about 5.5 pounds. She's a tiny cutie pie, and she is very bonded to me. She does not destroy furniture so can be safely left in the living room and she is paper-trained and pees every hour. Maple and I have spent the past 4 months snuggling daily, I bring her places, she sleeps on my pillow with me. She follows me everywhere; the kitchen, the bathroom- Maple hates being alone! Problem is, I'm starting a new job. It's a great job and I'm 26 years old. It's with a top investment firm and is a great opportunity. It's a 1 hour commute, 9 AM to 5:30 PM, 5 days a week. I'm so worried for how she is going to feel :( I'm crying with guilt. I can't move closer, I own my house. submitted by /u/Barbecuequeen23 to r/Dachshund [link] [comments]

AITH for telling my mom she can’t move in with us even “for a little while” after she got divorced?
I’m (M, 30) and my fiancée (F, 29) and I bought a small house last year. We’re not rich, it’s just a basic place with a tiny yard, but it felt like we finally got our footing. My mom (F, 56) recently finalized her divorce from my stepdad. It was ugly, lots of crying phone calls, lots of “I gave him my best years.” I tried to be supportive without getting pulled into the middle, because she has a history of turning every crisis into a permanent situation. She’s very religious, very “family is everything,” and also very good at making her wants sound like moral obligations. Last week she called me and said she can’t afford her apartment anymore because the rent went up and she “needs to regroup.” Then she hit me with the line I knew was coming: “I’ll just stay with you two for a bit, until I’m stable.” She said it like it was already decided. I asked what “a bit” means. She said, “Oh, don’t be dramatic, just a few months.” I asked where she’d sleep. She said the guest room, and then started talking about what furniture she’d bring, like she was planning a move in day. I told her we can help her look for a smaller place or a roommate situation with a friend from her church. She got quiet and said, “I’m your mother. I shouldn’t have to beg.” Here’s the context that makes me feel both guilty and also 100% sure. When I was 22 I let her stay with me after she had a fight with a boyfriend. It was supposed to be two weeks. It became four months. She criticized my cooking, my cleaning, my friends, and she kept leaving little devotional books on my desk like passive aggressive landmines. She also had this habit of “just asking questions” that were really accusations. “Why does your girlfriend dress like that.” “Do you think you’ll ever be a real man if you let a woman run your home.” When I finally told her she had to go, she cried and told the whole family I kicked her out. My aunt didn’t talk to me for a year. So yeah, I’m not doing that again, especially not now that I’m building a life with someone I actually want peace with. My fiancée is kind, but she’s a fixer. When my mom called her directly after I said no, my fiancée listened and then told me, “Maybe we can do a strict timeline, it’s your mom.” I said no, because timelines don’t work with my mother. She treats them like suggestions and then you’re the villain when you enforce them. My mom then started texting me bible verses about honoring your parents. One message literally said “A good son would not let his mother struggle.” That one made me see red. I replied that I’m not abandoning her, I’m saying she can’t live with us, and I’ll help in other ways. She responded, “So your wife comes first now.” I said yes, because that’s the point of getting married. She told me I’m choosing a woman over family and that she “prayed I would never turn out like this.” Now my fiancée feels caught in the middle, and she’s worried I’m being too harsh because my mom is “going through it.” I feel like I’m being forced to choose between my future marriage and a person who will happily swallow my whole life if I let her. AITH for holding this boundary even if it makes my mom’s situation harder in the short term? submitted by /u/AnalogWeekend_01 to r/WIBTA_AITA [link] [comments]

AITA for wanting my brother’s family to move out so I can finally live on my own again?
About 3–4 years ago, I kicked my ex out of the house I was renting. It’s a 4-bedroom, 3-story home (about 1900 sq. ft.), and my boss had co-signed the lease. After my ex left, I realized I couldn’t afford the rent on my own, and around that time, my younger brother (we’re a decade apart and weren’t very close growing up) and his family were in a tough spot. During COVID, they were living with my sister-in-law’s mom and brother. There was some kind of rental assistance program involved, but ultimately, other people in the household weren’t paying their share, and it messed up my brother and SIL’s rental history. They ended up in a tiny 600 sq. ft. 2-bedroom apartment with three kids — way too small. Trying to be supportive and rebuild our relationship, I invited them to move into my house with me, as long as they helped with rent. I even gave them the master bedroom so they could be near their kids’ rooms. My son and I moved into the daylight basement. I turned the living space down there into a bedroom and mini-apartment for us — even got a mini-fridge and toaster oven because trying to share the upstairs kitchen was overwhelming. (They have a lot of stuff and a lot of chaos, and I tend to mirror my environment, so it was too much.) They also pretty much took over the shared spaces — the living room furniture and dining table are mine, but I hardly use them anymore. I rarely cook because to do so means deep-cleaning before and after, and honestly, I’ve just shrunk myself down to avoid stress. After the first lease ended (about a year and a quarter), they still weren’t ready to move. I decided to sign another two-year lease to give them time to get their situation straightened out. That lease ends this December, and I’ve made it clear that I plan to get my own place after that. Here’s where it gets complicated: My brother and his wife have had a rocky relationship (he’s cheated before, and she’s been in counseling). They say they still can’t qualify for a new rental because of their past rental debt and history. When I mentioned I was house-hunting, my sister-in-law told me they’ll probably “end up living in a car.” I do feel bad. I love my nieces and nephews and want them to be safe. But I’ve also put my life on hold for years to help them. I have two older kids in college I want to invite home and spend time with. I have a son who deserves space to grow. And I’m in a relationship I’d like to nurture — but I can’t even have my partner over comfortably, let alone start integrating him into my son’s life, because of the living situation. I’ve done what I could: I gave them a home when they had none, gave them extra time by extending the lease, and have sacrificed my own comfort and space. But I’m exhausted and I want a life that’s mine again. So… AITA for deciding to move out and stop sharing my home with my brother’s family — even if it means they may end up without a place to go? submitted by /u/Dangerousboomonk to r/dustythunder [link] [comments]

One last act of love; a farewell to Tiny Tiger (18)
Tiny Tiger has been with me since I was 16 in 2007. Almost exactly 18 years later we celebrate his final birthday. I am now 34, and it has been an honor to care for him into my adult years. It was an honor to also inherit him after I moved out from living with my family. I am a well full of emotion on how I am navigating this. He came into my life through my mom's ex-boyfriend (boyfriend at the time). Unfortunately he went off his rocker after the break up, and held my mom, me, and my sibling at gun point in our own home. If it wasn't for our other cat, Princess, I wouldn't have stayed home from a trip I was supposed to go on with my dad. If I wasn't home, my mom may have been assaulted or worse. My mom's ex didn't know we were going to be there. Princess disappeared a couple of weeks before the event, and I never saw her again. Tiny is connected not only to this traumatic incident in my life, but my old soul cat, Princess. He made the disappearance of Princess a little bit easier. Tiny also connects me to my youth. Saying goodbye to him feels like a connection being severed to my childhood. He has been nothing short of a chaotic blessing in my life. He was a wild and sometimes feral little thing. Tiny Tigee (nickname) would sneak out of the house and beat up other cats. He still carries the patches of fur that don't grow on his feet, and very small slits in his ear from his brawling days (we did not condone this and tried to stop his escapes). He was a hoot and a threat when he found high ground like a ladder. TT caught and attitude each time he was up high and stalked and bullied us. I didn't mind. He was a cat with a much attitude as me. I loved and respected it. This same cat would cower before the TV when it was on, walk past it like it was the vacuum come to life. I still laugh at memories like him insisting to be locked up with the dogs in the laundry room for hours, all for a couple of treats. Of him letting me dress him in my pajamas. The way he walked; he walked like his front legs were loaded with too much muscle. Like many senior pets, Tiny started to develop some health issues. It started with hyperthyroidism. Years later, he entered the start of kidney disease. It has been about five years now, and his kidney disease entered its late stages last year with a estimation of 1 - 2 years. Weve had a couple scares since then. Recently, on Tuesday, he threw up (he has been throwing up a lot), and he layed down like he was dizzy or in pain afterwards. He was purring up a storm as I stroked his head telling him I was there. I took him into his vet which was kind enough to fit him in last minute. They gave him his semi-annual physical and blood work, and they discovered a third health issue: lymphoma. He has a ping pong ball size mass in his abdomen; in addition, his thyroid was x12 the value it was supposed to be at. Ever since Tuesday Tiny has not been acting the same. I bought him regular cat food instead of his prescription and he ate a lot of it the first day, but quickly slowed down to eating basically none of it. He won't eat anymore people food: no steak, chicken, cheese, pepperoni. He always seems interested in what I am eating but then doesn't eat it; in addition, he has only drank water once, maybe twice, since Monday. He has been sitting in front of the water bowl like he wants to drink, and then he walks away. I feel like it is time, even though he is still mobile, drinking, and eating somewhat. You can tell he is uncomfortable. It takes him a while to lay down, is restless, and he hasn't groomed himself properly in years. I do not want him to get to a very critical health point where he is truly miserable. I don't want his passing to be traumatic for him or me. I want it to be with dignity. Part of me wonders if I am making the right choice, if I should just continue the way things are and give him additional medicine. But I remind myself his kidneys are in their last stages, his thyroid is out of control, and now he probably has cancer. I do not want to say goodbye to my best friend. He is a golden light shining into my life each and every day. But, as the quote goes, this is my final act of love; giving him the peace of a gentle and planned death. It will be an at home visit to make sure he is comfortable. Friends and family are saying I am making a good decision. The vet, upon lymphoma diagnosis, said I should consider his quality of life, too. I don't want to let go, but I have to. I made him a promise that I will continue to sleep on the right side of the bed, so he can sleep on the left. I will always have one of his favorite blankets in his favorite sleeping spot. The catio door will remain open on the nice days, so he can go in and out as he pleases. That even after he is gone, I will pretend he is there to welcome me home. Because he is with me, always, at least in my heart and mind. It is was a privilege to have him beg for my food. It was a privilege for him to follow me around the house. It was a privilege for him to eat my plants when I specifically said not those. It was a privilege to share my love of reading with you. It was a privilege for you to sleep in the middle of the bed. It was a privilege for him to steal my popcorn. It was a privilege for him to destroy my furniture. It was a privilege to care for you. It was a privilege to love you. Thank you all for reading to this point if you did. I know it was a lot. I just will miss my little man so much. The home I have now will feel very empty without him. I just wanted to share our story, his story, because he was and is such a monumental presence in my life. I love you. You will be at peace soon, Tiny Tiger. submitted by /u/Crypsisrosa to r/seniorkitties [link] [comments]

What should I do with this elevated platform in my kitchen ??
I just moved into a new apartment and there’s this odd elevated platform area in the main room (photo attached). It has a few steps going up and a half-railing, and I’m not sure what its original purpose was—but I’d love to turn it into something cool or useful. It’s located directly opposite the kitchen, so I’ve thought about making it a cozy reading nook, a tiny breakfast area, or even a work-from-home spot. But I’m totally open to creative or unexpected ideas—especially ones that make it feel intentional instead of just… weird. For context: • The rest of the room is open with good natural light. • I like a mix of cozy + functional design. • I’m on a budget, but I’m okay with small DIY projects or secondhand furniture. • It’s across from the kitchen, so something food-related could work too. Any suggestions on how I could style or use this space? submitted by /u/Ok-Problem-6942 to r/interiordecorating [link] [comments]

Tiny holes in used furniture. Can I relax, or do I toss it?
Asking the experts here: Is there an infestation here or is it all good? I just got this, super 2nd or 3rd hand used furniture, and didn’t do a proper inspection before taking it home. There’s a bunch more of these group of spots on the sides that I didn’t take a pic of. These are just the ones on the top and the front. I did some google search and spots like these may be worms or bug infestation? I’m terrified of all bugs. Or is just the way it’s made? I’ve wiped it a ton already. Only thing I noticed on picking up was spider webs underneath which I cleared and wiped off before taking it home. Appreciate any expert advice. Thank you! submitted by /u/celestepiano to r/woodworking [link] [comments]

Told my Brother and his wife (& their dog) they can’t stay with me while they’re “looking for a place”
I am recently windowed. I lost my husband very suddenly to brain cancer after 40 years of marriage. I was his sole caretaker in his final days, and it was incredibly difficult for me, both mentally and physically. I’ve been caring for our two children their whole lives and still continue to help out my adult children by helping out with my grandkids to this day. After my husband died in November, I packed up my entire life and moved across the country to TN, I bought my dream home, (my husband never could bring himself to retire so we were unable to fulfill this dream when he was alive). I bought my daughter and her two kids a home about 30 mins away from my house, so they could be nearby and have the same fresh start I have. Things have been great, a lot of change, but we’re excited to finally have done something big and brave with our lives, and feel hopeful about the future again. Just a new chapter for us all. My kids and I joked between ourselves that my older brother and his longtime wife would surely eventually try to move in with me. They do have a history of taking advantage of situations, and people, but at the same time, we’re very close, and good people at heart. Although, my brother has made a lot of mistakes financially that have haunted them throughout the past several decades of their lives. They currently stay in a tiny apartment in Southern California, owned by their adult son. They don’t pay much rent, if any, and while my brother does do some remote freelance consulting work, I have no idea how much they make or have to support themselves. Because I moved from CA to TN, I have a much bigger house now- it’s just me and my dogs, which is exactly how I want it. My daughter and her two kids totally could have lived with me in my house, but after 40 years of being the main caretaker for my family, I’m ready to take this time for myself, while I still can. I enjoy being alone, having my own space, and doing what I wish each day, for the first time in my 63 years on earth. My brother and his wife came out to visit a few weeks back and really loved it out here, they talked about finding a place for themselves, maybe a small rental home or an apartment nearby, so we could spend time together. I would love to see them regularly and have them over for bbqs, etc. but several weeks after their visit they texted me letting me know they had hired movers and were going to put all their belongings in my workshop and stay with me for “a few days” while they look for a place of their own. My daughter freaked out, said they will never leave, and if they do it’ll be because I had to help them get approved for a lease and help with down-payments/ security deposit etc. Suddenly, I could feel my newfound freedom, that I’ve waited over 40 years to claim, slipping through my fingers. The stress of not knowing how long they (and their dog) would stay or if they’d ever leave was overwhelming. I got the courage to tell them that they need to find a place before they move out here. Their reaction was even more upsetting than their initial plans. In fairness to my brother, he replied “no prob” as he tends to sweep things under the rug and pretend they never happened, which in this case, was fine with me. But my Sister in law sent me a defensive text asking why I have “lost all faith in them,” saying “her credit is good” and they would only stay with me a few days. However in the very next line, she wrote that if they didn’t find a place, they would get a storage unit for all their belongings, as if their furniture in my workshop would be the issue. I felt like she totally contradicted herself, only further revealing their lack of a stable plan, an vast void in logic that would inevitably fall on me to fill in perpetuity. All I could say is finding a place before moving out here really is the only way- but that I hope they do find a place and move out here soon. She stopped replying to me and is now ghosting me. They know I don’t like confrontation and that the tension is surely wearing me down. I have no assurance they could get approved for a lease with their history, nor that they even really want to. Apart of me thinks they believe that because I have a large home, live alone, and live comfortably, they deserve a piece of the pie my late husband and I spent our entire lives making. and I’m being selfish by setting what I see as healthy boundaries. Did I dodge the biggest bullet ever or am I the asshole for not letting them come move in “temporarily?” submitted by /u/ThroatEyeKnucklebone to r/AITAH [link] [comments]

AITA for refusing to take custody of my 16 Y.O sister after mom died?
I'm 26 and have a 15 y.o sister who's in a boarding high school. Our single mom passed away 3 years ago today and my sister moved in with my grandmother. They dont get along, angsty teen and old school grandma. Today one of my relatives calls me and tells me they had a family meeting decided (without warning or consulting me) that i have to take custody of my sister. I'm 26 and just finished uni a few months ago. I got a job in a city about 4 hours my home town and I'm on a 6 month unpaid probabtion sort of setup at work. (Boyfriend is catering for living expenses for now). I live in a tiny apartment with no furniture except my bed and study/work desk. I have also honestly never gotten along with my sister either. There's a huge age gap between us and i generally just dont like her for a number of reasons Am i the asshole for refusing to take her in? Our father is still alive but is being difficult about taking her in because he was married and had us as illegitimate kids. My conscience is killing me about saying no...but at the same time i am in no state (financially, emotionally, mentally) to become a parent So, AITA? submitted by /u/cannot_pick_name_001 to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]

Got tired of my previous tiny desk so I make an executive desk out of black walnut. Shouldn't run out of space now. Lots of mistakes and lessons were learned but was fun! This is my 2nd piece of furniture.
