Boaxel with 10’ High Ceilings
I wasn’t able to find a reference of this being done before (am I stupid for have done it?) Ceilings are 10 feet (120 inches). New construction home had pre-installed basic ClosetMaid system. Wanted to try a 3 tier closet system before I do a full custom wood built-in closet (a high rod works for me because I work from home and don’t need access to my business clothes regularly). Used single Boaxel suspension rail on each wall + long vertical rails. Mounted shelf at the top and bottom of the Boaxel verticals, which allowed for hanging space of 36” / 36” / 41” (measuring from the rod to the bottom of shelf/floor). To install the shelf flush to the ceiling: I attached the brackets to the shelves before placing them on the vertical rails. I used painters tape wrapped tightly around the brackets and shelves to manage any separation of the parts while mounting them to the vertical rails. This worked like a charm! (I used this technique with all the shelves as I was really struggling to install the shelves onto the brackets already mounted to the vertical rail. For shelves that are connected with a single bracket in the middle - the tape needs to be removed from the center bracket before installing the second horizontal aligned shelf. Only one bracket would be pre-attached to the second shelf before mounting it onto the vertical and connecting it to the already hung bracket and shelf.) Screws used: - Horizontal Suspension Rail Screws: Ez-Ancor Stud Solver 50 lbs. Drywall and Stud Anchors - Vertical Wall Upright Rail Screws: Walldriller Plus #6 x 1-1/2 in. dealing with shelves
We're painting in here and it has a ClosetMaid wire shelving system. I'm planning to take the shelves out and clean them, but I feel leaving the vertical elements and just carefully edging up to them is most sensible way to deal with that. Does that seem ok or do I need to take them out to get an acceptable finish? Will be color matching so no change there. submitted by /u/Moist-You-7511 to r/paint [link] [comments]

Bedroom closet system with deep drawers?
I have a semi oddly shaped walk-in closet (see pic) and it's "only" 60.5" wide which is a little bit too narrow for a lot of closet systems I've seen. I think I would prefer to mostly treat it like two reach-in closets on each of the shorter walls, and have little to nothing on the wide wall. My partner and I both like to have drawers, not just shelves. I would like: 5-8 drawers depending on their height/depth some open shelving, mostly for pants and sweaters, but also a couple for shoes ~10" space at least 54" high for hanging dresses ~20" space at least 34" high for hanging tops He needs: 4-6 drawers depending on their height/depth open shelving for pants and sweatshirts two hanging rods for shirts Other notes: ceilings are 8ft high we are both in the realm of 6' tall he prefers a wood-colored finish, but I don't like it to have too much red in it (white could work if that's what turns out be available) open to building shelves hanging space around standalone dressers as long as at it looks cohesive. this is basically what we're doing now but we have three different finishes and it looks very college I spent an absurd amount of time designing a potential system in EasyCloset, but then I received the sample finishes and I just really do not like any of them enough to spend 3-4000$ on it. I started looking at other systems, but most of the systems I am seeing are only about 14" deep whereas EC has a 19" option which is awesome for my space. Does anyone know any systems that have deeper drawers and aren't going to be 5000$? I really am hoping to be below 2000$ for both sides. I've looked at a bunch: Costco Serenity - pretty similar to EC. still more than I want to spend I think and has fewer options ClosetMaid and the like - drawers are only 14" deep which makes me think it'll be difficult to design something efficient. I may try spec-ing it out though to see (their design tool is terrible) since I do have HomeDepot/Lowes in my area and can go see what it looks like in person first. IKEA Pax - kinda look like the best option as far as configuration, but we don't have an IKEA even vaguely near so I haven't seen these in person which makes me nervous. Drawers are great depth but pretty short for putting clothes in them vertically, which I wonder about being annoying. no wood color option but not a dealbreaker if it's the most functional Container Store elfa, etc - also nowhere near us, and more than I want to spend and I don't like how inefficient with space the wire drawers are Would love to hear what brands people have used that aren't mentioned here, or if you particularly love any of the ones I have mentioned! Part of me would like to just DIY the whole thing out of actual wood but I'm pretty sure that's not a project I would realistically complete in this lifetime lol. submitted by /u/lirdleykur to r/organizing [link] [comments]

*UPDATE* Closet racks completely fell off walls in two closets days apart. Landlord is claiming we're responsible for damages, but it just looks like shoddy workmanship?
Hey all, Back again with an update on my last post. If you haven't seen it, you can check it out here. TLDR: The closet racks in the place we are currently renting fell out of the wall completely. It didn't seem that they had been installed correctly, with the both racks only being anchored to the drywall with cheap tiny plastic anchors. Based on a lot of helpful commenters, especially u/XxFezzgigxX who provided us with the manual for that specific closet rack, we sent our LL the following message: Thank you for your prompt response regarding the closet rack failures. After reviewing the manual for the ClosetMaid SuperSlide 5637 (the model installed in these closets), we’ve confirmed that the wall clips were improperly spaced during installation, likely causing the failure. Specifically, the manual (Page 3, “Measure and Fit” section, NOTE) states: “Never install wall clips more than 11" apart.” However, as shown in the attached video, the clips in our closets were spaced 14 to 17 inches apart, anchored only to drywall and not to studs—violating the manufacturer’s guidelines. Additionally, we've noticed that the remaining closet racks in the unit are now pulling away from the walls (see new attached images). Given that this issue is affecting multiple closets—all installed the same way—it’s clear that improper installation is the root cause, not normal usage. We are deeply concerned about safety. The two racks that failed did so suddenly, and we are now worried that the remaining racks—especially those upstairs—could collapse under normal use, potentially causing further damage or even injury. Since the issue stems from the initial installation, we kindly request that you send a handyman to repair the damaged closet racks, reinforce the remaining upstairs racks in accordance with manufacturer specifications, and repaint the walls that were scratched as a result of the damage. Please let us know if you'd like us to provide any further documentation or coordinate access as needed, and thank you again for your time. They responded to us back today with the following lukewarm message: I wanted to follow up regarding the closet rack issue. Regardless of the brand of the closet system, here's what I’ve found: Standard Spacing for Closet Clips/Brackets: Brackets are typically spaced 16 to 24 inches apart. Ideally, clips should be secured to wall studs spaced 16" on center for maximum support, especially with wire shelving. When studs aren't available, heavy-duty wall anchors should be used—and in this case, they were. It’s also worth noting that we’ve had tenants in this unit for several years, and this issue has not occurred previously. Likewise, we will send our handyman to verify this information. Please provide us with your availability. Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns. Best regards, We provided them with information straight from the installation instructions, and they came back to us with information that Google AI search spat out. The handyman that they send will likely just make up whatever reason to say that we overloaded the racks and would be responsible to repair them, even though everything we have points to improper installation as being the cause. I've included a pic of the 'heavy duty wall anchors' that were used. Any ideas as to how I should proceed? submitted by /u/Kotobro to r/Tenant [link] [comments]

Mounting a Closet Shelf-track System securely to Plaster on Brick?
Hello! I have a freshly painted closet in which I’ll be installing a Closetmaid Shelftrack system. The wall behind is comprised of Paint on 3 Layers of Wallpaper on Plaster on Brick. I want to ensure the horizontal shelf rail is securely mounted to the wall, as there will be a lot of hanging clothes and shoes. I’ve used plastic expanding anchors before but doubt they’ll be enough. Would a bunch of deep plastic anchors work (if that’s even a thing?) most of the ones I have spare are only 1 1/4” long or shorter. I’ve used Tapcons before but just can never get them to work right. Either they blow out the plaster in hole I drill or the screw breaks. I know to clean the holes beforehand and I’ve tried the ziptie trick as well. I’ve even tried tossing some construction adhesive in the hole as well. I blame it on the 100+ year old brick, I guess. The only other option I’m aware of is sleeve anchors but they seem too large in diameter to fit in the holes of the shelf track and would leave threaded bolts sticking out when tightened, wouldn’t they? Any recommendations from people who’ve mounted heavy stuff to masonry would be very much appreciated. I’d like to have a solution I’m confident in before I approach this and get frustrated. submitted by /u/HERCzero to r/DIY [link] [comments]

How the freak do I get these out?
My closet at my apartment came with those metal closetmaid shelving systems already installed. They recently took a shit, so I purchased a new wood shelving system. Upon removing all the parts, I was able to get the brackets out that were screwed in, but these are some kind of additional anchors to grip the metal frame that are held into the wall by a piece of hardware I’ve never seen before and can’t remove. The metal hardware can twist 360 degrees around, so they aren’t screwed in, and there are no drywall anchors in there but they will not pull out, even the loose ones. ClosetMaid ShelfTrack System question
I am currently in the process of installing a ClosetMaid ShelfTrack but ran into a potential issue that I wanted to run by others before continuing. The potential issue is this-- the 24" hang track (the long bar that goes across the very top to which the standards connect) is currently secured to the wall (drywall) with 6 butterfly anchors and toggle bolts, but without the recommended one hole screwed directly into a stud. I used a stud locator beforehand and had aligned the hang track so that the 4th hole (of 6) would be directly on top of the stud. I drilled wall holes for the other 5 hang track holes and used the butterfly anchors and toggle bolts on those holes to secure it to the wall. When I attempted to put the screw through the 4th hang track hole and into the wall and stud behind it, it turned out the stud was not actually behind the hole. I must have missed the stud's location by an inch or two. I then used another butterfly anchor and toggle bolt instead, like I had with the other holes, and finished securing the hang track to the wall. That was as far as I got that night and I intend to finish the project this weekend. However, I'm concerned about the hang track not being secured directly to a stud. I don't know if this actually matters in this case or not. The directions state that "stud installation is recommended when possible," but will it be problematic if not? I am very new to using butterfly anchors and toggle bolts and have read that this is one of the strongest securing methods (and hopefully especially so with using them on all 6 holes) but lack the experience to confidently make this call. If this is a recipe for disaster, I will start all over again and make sure I secure with at least one stud. However, I really don't want to if it's not going to be necessary. It'll also require me to patch up the holes I already put in the wall. If I can keep the hang track as is, I do plan to use 3 standards instead of just 2 in an effort towards stronger installation. I may even be able to put one of the standards over the stud. If anyone has experience with this or wants to weigh in at all, I'd really appreciate some feedback. Hoping to not have to start all over again but want to do this right and just don't know how important the stud factor will be. If anyone needs to know what the specifc hang track is, here's a link: https://www.homedepot.com/p/ClosetMaid-ShelfTrack-24-in-White-Hang-Track-2824/100672017 Uodate: I ended up taking it out and put spakle over the holes. I'm going to reinstall a little to the side, where I now know the stud is located. I invested in a slightly better stud finder and learned a little this time! submitted by /u/kelly8in8ky to r/HomeImprovement [link] [comments]

Reach-In Closet System Recommendations
I have a 75" wide 22.5" deep closet space. I'm researching reach-in closet systems to determine which one is best for my needs. Just purchased home, plan to be here ~5 years. Aside from just holding my stuff, I'd like this thing to be pleasant to use, not look terrible, and not fall apart due to poor materials. I will spend $500-$1000 on this if it's needed to get a good quality system, but would have to be convinced at the top end of that range (and would gladly spend less!). I don't have any interest in doing a special custom closet, I'd prefer to do a modular out of the box system, which I will install myself. Closet shelving system, anything narrower than 16"?
Thee is an old style built in closet in our bedroom and I'd like to put up some modular shelving inside. Measurements of the closet are 68" wide by 14.5" (roughly) deep. I'm accounting for space to allow the closet doors to shut properly, so I'd say any shelving that's 14" deep should work, only problem is most of the off-the-shelf closet solutions I see (like Rubbermaid Fasttrack, Ikea's Algot, and the Alfa system) are 16" deep and up. I supposed I could buy smaller brackets and cut my own shelves out of wood, but I'd prefer to use wire ventilated shelving in this closet and would like to go with something off-the-shelf, not custom if possible. Can anyone point me towards a solution that might work in this built-in closet? Thanks submitted by /u/dotcom-jillionaire to r/HomeImprovement [link] [comments]

Closet storage. Trying to determine the best solution. Start from scratch or use a pre-fab system to fit my space...
Hey r/DIY, Buying a new house and the closet space is limited, right now we have a walk-in closet and the new house has one of those bi-fold door closets. Closet is 5' wide by 2' deep with 2-2' folding doors (4' wide door opening). I want to have an upper and a lower rod that is either the entire width of the closet, or upper and lower rods with a skinny shelf in the middle, or uppers, half lowers/half lower shoe rack. Here are two images of things that are similar to what I'm looking for. Container Store Elfa - $475 Rubbermaid 5'-8' closet shelving kit - $45 Image of building my own, although center shelf would be smaller So I'm thinking that I should just build the whole thing myself as the elfa is crazy expensive and the wire shelved rubbermaid doesn't seem strong enough. Perhaps though there is another system out there that someone has used and would recommend? I've looked up building closets and different websites recommend different materials. I've seen plywood, mdf, and fiberboard shelving (?) all recommended for closet shelving. Should I use one of these or something different and why? Any other closet building recommendations? TL;DR: Any closet system you would recommend? Closet shelf material? Any closet building recommendations/tips? submitted by /u/Hoktfonix to r/DIY [link] [comments]
