DIY custom built-in closet: Free-standing vs. wall-mounting with pure drywall/metal studs?
Hey everyone, I’m planning to rip out this metal wire shelving rack and build a proper custom closet unit from scratch with solid shelving, organizers, and a few drawers. Here’s my main roadblock: I’m in an apartment with metal studs. To be honest, I really don't want to deal with trying to drill into metal, so I’d prefer to leave them alone entirely. For the sake of this project, I’m assuming I have zero access to studs and am dealing with pure drywall. Because I want to add actual drawers and store some heavier stuff (pantry backstock, small electronics, etc.), I’m pretty paranoid about the weight. I’m building this myself from scratch (not looking for pre-made IKEA systems or anything), so I’m trying to figure out the best structural approach. I have a good amount of experience using heavy-duty Snaptoggle bolts, so I know how strong they can be. But even with good anchors, I'm second-guessing a wall-mounted setup for a pure drywall situation. A couple of questions: Free-standing vs. Wall-mounted: Would it be way smarter to build a full, floor-standing carcass/frame so 100% of the downward weight sits directly on the ground? Or are Snaptoggles genuinely reliable enough to support a fully wall-hung custom wooden unit with loaded drawers? Anti-tip hardware: If I go the floor-standing route, the ground handles the load and I just need to stop the unit from tipping forward. Are Snaptoggles overkill just for anti-tip, or should I stick with them anyway for peace of mind? Design gotchas: If you've built a custom floor-up unit into a tight drywall alcove like this, is there anything you wish you knew before you started cutting your wood? Would love to hear how anyone else has tackled custom built-ins under these kinds of constraints. Thanks! Edit: I own the apartment in case that changes anything submitted by /u/benmeiri84 to r/BeginnerWoodWorking [link] [comments]

Custom Life Closets: sharing my honest review
I’m sharing a review of Custom Life Closets. I dreamt of having a beautiful walk-in closet all my life. i recently moved into my first home in Chicago after getting a new job and an inheritance. I picked a house that had a walk-in closet space. The house in general are amazing, but the closet was pretty basic Roomy, but with no built-in organization. I hired Custom Life Closets to create a custom organizing system in the walk-in closet, to completely redo the space. The work crew was professional, respectful of my space, and did an excellent job, meeting and exceeding my expectations. I had a vague idea what I wanted beforehand, and they worked with me to turn it into a reality, offering suggestions that maximized the functionality and use of space. I could not be happier with their work or the results. submitted by /u/Fieryassassin32 to r/chi [link] [comments]

Small Closet Organization
In the video you can see the final product with the accessories (baskets, clothes, hanging storage bags) followed by the rendering for the plan. Had a hard time thinking about how to maximize the space since the closet is an awkward size (roughly 40'' deep by 37'' wide). Decided that if we use longer trim than we need for the sides, we could hook storage baskets without the space feeling too tight. The shelves are custom from some extra I had doing our garage. Shelves are 16.5'' deep and spaced with 1 foot between them. submitted by /u/mposk1 to r/organizing [link] [comments]

I swear it's not what it looks like. It's for closet organization, honest!
Okay, get your laughs out now. Yes, I realized the unfortunate shape of the mounting bracket after I printed it. Once you see it, you can't unsee it. But seriously, this is actually a fully functional, snap-fit pull-out wardrobe hanger I designed. The "Why" I wanted to turn a shallow IKEA Billy bookcase (26cm depth) into a small wardrobe for jackets, but standard hangers don't fit nicely. I needed a custom pull-out solution. The "What" It’s a modular system printed in PLA using wooden dowels for the rails. No glue required: Everything is designed with snap-fit joints that lock securely. Strong: It easily holds winter coats. Customizable: You can change the length just by scaling the dowels in the slicer. It works perfectly and saved me a ton of space. If you can look past the initial "design flaw" of the bracket, it's a really useful print! The Documentation: I also really enjoyed creating proper documentation for this project. I used Fusion 360's "Drawing" workspace to generate professional-looking assembly instructions. I added a screenshot of one of the PDF pages at the end of the gallery to show how it turned out. Let me know if you like this project it took me a lot of time. If you want to print it you can find it here! https://makerworld.com/en/models/2446895-pull-out-wardrobe-hanger-ikea-billy-compatible#profileId-2685879 submitted by /u/teobiondo91 to r/BambuLab [link] [comments]

Curious if anyone has had any experience with someone local doing custom closet design. Custom closet designer in Chicago?
I have a huge wardrobe of clothes that I have collected over many years. I used to live in a very small apartment, with a tiny, cramped closet everything was literally just stuffed into. I finally have moved to a bigger home after getting a higher paying job, and it comes with something I wanted my whole life, a walk-in closet. I got a sizeable bonus, and I want to reward myself for climbing up the corporate ladder by having someone come out and create me a completely customized closet. I have some ideas, but I’m not great at organizing, so I really could use some professional help. Can anyone recommend a custom closet designer in Chicago? [Loved trope] Games introducing "Too good to be true" mechanics as a trap for first-time players
1) Millibelle the Banker (Hollow Knight) In a game where you lose all currency on death (and permanently lose that currency if you die before destroying the shade where you last died), Millibelle offers a very welcome banking service just underneath a stagway. She offers to keep your geo safe if you invest it with her, and she does return geo when you ask, so you're inclined to leave as much geo with her to save it for a rainy day. However, after giving her at least a sizable amount of geo, Millibelle will abscond with it. If you return, her bank turns out to be a cardboard cutout, and she's nowhere to be found. Later in the game, you can find her in the spa in the City of Tears. You can wack her around to return your initial investment (plus some extra Geo), but the banking services will still disappear for the rest of the game. 2) The Mushroom Merchants (Look Outside) Look Outside plays with a lot of video game RPG tropes while also maintaining a level of dark realism. When you're investigating the Fungal Lair, the game takes a straightforward RPG "Save the Princess" subplot with a plucky party member to lead you through. You can rescue three prisoners throughout the Lair: Sylvain, Jean-Pierre, and Claire. They gift you a traditional RPG weapon/armor and offer you their services. They function as traditional RPG "merchants", and all their services are mainstays of JRPGs. Sylvain will offer a card minigame where you can win prizes, Jean-Pierre works as a blacksmith who will forge you powerful game-breaking weapons once you find the right materials, and Claire acts as a carpenter who will make additions to your apartment, such as a new bedroom, a closet to customize your appearance, and a spa for resting. Notably, you can't get the materials yet for any of their offers. That's because the entire subplot is a trap. If you follow the "Save the Queen" plot straightforward, she will assimilate and devour you easily. If you resist at all or become suspicious of the inconsistencies, the Queen, your party member, and the Mushroom Merchants realize you're not falling for the trap and attack you instead. Their weapons and armor also sabotage and make you weaker when you equip them. When you beat the Queen, all the hostile mushrooms (including the merchants) wither away, and all their "services" are rendered inaccessible. 3) The EZIC Gift (Papers Please) In Papers Please, the shadow organization/rebellion EZIC will appear in your queue several times, looking to recruit you as a man on the inside to allow them to depose Arstotzka's oppressive government. They ask you to pull little acts of subterfuge on specific days, such as admitting their agents, stealing documents from certain members of the government, and so-on. After helping them during one of their instances, EZIC will gift you a massive bribe at the end of the day, leaving you 1000 credits at your doorstep. You can either accept the gift (which would give you a lot of comfort room in an otherwise hectic budget), or you can burn it. Burning it will cause them to double their bribe and leave it for you the next day, giving you the same options. Burning it both times is the best option. Choosing to accept either bribe will cause you to be reported for a suspicious bump in income, resulting in EZIC needing you to approve one of their agents to fix your discrepancies in the government (No, you don't get to keep the money). If you deny their help, you lose the game due to being audited. submitted by /u/jbeast33 to r/TopCharacterTropes [link] [comments]

Help a husband surprise his wife with a new palette!
EDIT 2: Thank you, all! I read every single post. I appreciate all the kind words, encouragement, and advice. I cant offer much, but if ever you need advice on tools just send me a message! UPDATE: EVERYTHING HAS BEEN PURCHASED - YES I WENT OVER BUDGET Danessa - Yummy Skin Blurring Balm Powder Universal; (she has been complaining about her Fenty blotting powder so I hope this helps) Mario - Ethereal Eyes Moonlight; for cool tones and shimmers Mario - Mini Soft Pop; she's really been loving putting blush on, this could be easy on the move Natasha - Yucca for warmth, shimmer, and I needed a green since she just bought a green dress Rephr - the eye collection ; this was actually the hardest decision and felt like a pure guess PMG - Celestial Nirvana ; It literally became available today for $40 Viseart - Visepro Grande 1x; I expect this to be her workhorse Viseart - Visepro Editorial Brights; can be swapped with the Grande and gives her more blending options + yellow I don't expect she will use all of this. I would be happy if she used even half, but I'm confident with these choices and I think I covered pretty much everything except reds. My beautiful wife recently got a promotion and her best friend is getting married. I just hope she knows how proud I am and care about her (yes I tell her, but words are easy). For any significant others who might read this, there are some really good tips in here. If you don't want to learn about makeup the best recommendation I saw was this: Schedule an appointment for your SO to have her skin professionally analyzed and then buy her a custom set. For me, this was a great experience to better understand her likes/dislikes/frustrations with makeup. ~Break~ EDIT: Thank you so much everyone. I am constantly reviewing all the comments, but I can't reply to everyone. Boring, I know, but I have built an excel to keep track of all the options and prices. There are so many great recommendations and I wish I had the money to get her all of it! I thought I would update everyone on my thoughts right now. This isn't final. *The name does matter to an extent. She would take a Dior purse over a similar quality from a lesser name. EYESHADOW: Viseart Visepro Grande 1X - expansive matte with cool and warm tones, replaceable tins, a cool easel feature, and no one seems to have anything negative to say about the mattes. Viseart Theory VII - just for the case so she can travel with her primary eyeshadows in a convenient little package. Nomad New Zealand Stargazing - this looks like a solution for deep color with chromes Danessa Lightwork - I think she'd really find this fun but it's too expensive. Maybe a future gift! BRUSHES: Nephr - $60 for an organic set of 6 Sonia Kushak - She has a brush from her and really likes it Sonia G ~Break~ Hey everyone! I’d like to surprise my wife with some new eye makeup. I am very much overwhelmed by not just the brands but also the individual palettes. I snuck into her makeup closet to get some pictures of her current palettes and I included a picture of her arm so you can see her skin tone. PLEASE HELP! And if this isn’t allowed, absolutely take the is post down! So, she loves doing themed color combos when we go out. It looks to me like she typically prefers warmer and matte colors. The budget is about $300 total. Here’s what I’m thinking… Viseart Paris - Visepro Grande 1x Viseart Paris - Theory VII Siren (for the mix and match travel option) Natasha Denona - Sunset Natasha Denona - Xeno Pat McGrath - Mothership I Pat McGrath - Mothership VII For brushes, I’d like to get her a blender, a creaser, and a detailer. High end sets are out of the budget right now, but a few high end brushes aren’t. Any help is appreciated! I’ll delete this after I order so she doesn’t see it. :) submitted by /u/needed_for_reasons to r/MakeupAddiction [link] [comments]

Best Board Game Shelf 2025: Reviews & Buying Guide
[Check Latest Arrivals board game shelf on Amazon.] Best Board Game Shelf 2025: Reviews & Buying guide The Board game shelf is a crucial component for any serious board game enthusiast. As collections grow, the need for organized, accessible, and visually appealing storage becomes paramount. A good board game shelf not onyl protects games from damage but also enhances the overall gaming experience by making setup and teardown quicker and more efficient. This guide explores some of the best board game shelves predicted to be popular in 2025, focusing on their features, benefits, and ideal users. Key Features Analysis The Best board game shelves of 2025 are expected to offer a blend of durability, customization, and aesthetic appeal. They will move beyond basic shelving to incorporate design elements catering to the specific needs of board game collectors. Adjustable Shelving: One of the most critically important features of a good board game shelf is adjustable shelving. This allows users to customize the spacing between shelves to accommodate games of various sizes, from small card games to large, deluxe edition board games. The shelves should be easy to adjust without requiring tools or excessive effort. Look for shelves that have a wide range of height options, typically spaced at 1-inch or 2-inch intervals. A good shelving unit will offer the adaptability to accommodate every type of board game. Weight Capacity: Board games can be surprisingly heavy, especially when dealing with collectors editions. A robust board game shelf should have a high weight capacity per shelf to prevent sagging or collapsing over time. Ideally, each shelf should be able to hold at least 50 pounds, and the entire unit should be able to support several hundred pounds. Check the manufacturerS specifications carefully, and if possible, opt for shelves constructed from solid wood or reinforced steel.Construction Material: The material from which the shelf is constructed plays a crucial role in it's durability and aesthetic appeal. Solid wood options such as oak, maple, or pine offer a classic look and extraordinary strength. Engineered wood products like MDF (medium-density fiberboard) and particleboard are more affordable but should be chosen carefully to ensure they have a durable laminate finish. Steel shelves offer exceptional strength and are frequently enough used in industrial settings, but they may not be as aesthetically pleasing for a living room or game room. depth and Width: Board game boxes come in a variety of sizes, so it's important the shelf is appropriately sized. It is beneficial to ensure that the depth of the shelving accommodates the largest boxes in your collection. Wider shelves are also beneficial, as they allow for more games to be stored together. Aesthetic Design: Beyond functionality, the aesthetic design of a board game shelf is a key consideration. The shelving should be able to complement the overall decor of the room in which it is housed. Look for shelving units that have a clean, modern look, or that feature decorative elements such as molding, trim, or unique finishes. Choose a color that coordinates with the rest of your furniture and accents. Safety Features: Given the potential for shelves to tip over, safety features are crucial, especially for households with children or pets. Look for shelves that include wall anchors or anti-tip straps to securely fasten the unit to the wall. this prevents accidents and ensures the safety of the occupants. Core Benefits Investing in a dedicated board game shelf offers numerous benefits, including improved organization, protection for your games, and enhanced overall gaming experience. Improved Organization: A dedicated board game shelf provides a central location for all your games, making it easier to find what you're looking for and keep everything organized. No more searching through cluttered closets or stacked boxes – everything is neatly displayed and readily accessible. This can significantly reduce setup time and make game nights more enjoyable. game Protection: Proper storage on a board game shelf protects your games from damage caused by stacking, moisture,or dust. having a dedicated space means your games are less likely to get crushed, scratched, or otherwise damaged, preserving their value and extending their lifespan. This is especially critically important for valuable or rare games. Enhanced Aesthetics: A well-organized board game shelf can enhance the overall aesthetic of your game room or living room. Displaying your games in an attractive manner turns your collection into a visually appealing focal point. It showcases your hobby and reflects your personality. Increased Game Accessibility: Easy access to your board games means you're more likely to play them. When games are stored out of sight, they often get forgotten. Having them prominently displayed on a shelf serves as a constant reminder and encourages you to break them out more often. Maximizing Space Utilization: Board game shelves can be designed to maximize vertical space, allowing you to store a large number of games in a relatively small footprint. This is particularly beneficial for those with limited storage space. Shelves allow you to take advantage of unused wall space, freeing up valuable floor space. FAQs Section What is the ideal depth for a board game shelf? I got Postpartum Psychosis
Wanted to make a post for anyone else who may be wondering how the heck this shows up. For me, it went like this: -on Zoloft all pregnancy -towards end I start to feel really giddy, start doing impulsive things (spending money on phone games, steal $50 from a customer at my husband’s work) -chalk it up to hormones and being unhinged -feel GREAT postpartum -start staying up really late, have a bunch of projects I want to do -at the same time, start feeling uneasy about baby sleeping in a room away from me. Only happens at night. Chalk it up to my crippling fear of the dark. -really staying up late now (4-5AM). Still feel good -becoming obsessed with finding a newer, better job, applying and interviewing. Attempt catfishing on a sex chat site. Blow about $1.5k on phone games, im gonna win a ton of money and save for my kid’s college. Buying sprees at target and amazon, redecorate the whole house. -now it’s about cleaning. I have to clean. I HAVE TO. staying up until 5 cleaning and organizing the whole kitchen. Still just 4 weeks PP. -6 weeks pp and I start hearing weird mumbling at night. Maybe it’s the neighbors next door? Maybe it’s people in the apartment courtyard? Idk but the fear of leaving the babies alone in another room is ramping up. Something is going to get them. something is going to get them. -I start being unable to sit in the dark to put my toddler to sleep. I see a ball pit ball being blown by his fan and am convinced it’s actually not, it’s being toyed with by a demonic presence that’s letting me know it’s there by looking normal but not normal in a way only I would recognize. And the house still needs to be cleaned. -7 weeks postpartum and I see hands coming out of my son’s closet in the dark. I sit and stare at them for 20 minutes, terrified. Something is going to get them. -8 weeks postpartum and I hear a dead voice saying “what up”. Other people are talking, maybe it was a tiktok and the app didn’t close? Not sure. -The same night, I’m falling asleep with my daughter on the couch and I am gripped with the same fear I've been having about her dying. I feel like every night I’m negotiating with the angel of Death, pleading for her to not die. I hear a voice start to drone over the TV- GET UP, GET UP, GET UP. It’s dead. It’s not human. AND IT WANTS ME TO KILL MY BABY. i immediately get up, go to bed, and tell my husband. Two days later I go to the ER after my psychiatrist and a hotline person yell at me. I get diagnosed with bipolar (triggered by zoloft) with psychotic features. I’m on seroquel and lamictal. They didn’t take my baby away. I didn’t have to be inpatient. I still have the fears at night, and occasionally I’ll hear a voice, but they’re still adjusting my meds. Just wanted to share in case it helps someone. Small edit to say that zoloft does not cause bipolar or psychosis-it can trigger an episode if you’re predisposed to bipolar, and bipolar itself does not always have psychosis. submitted by /u/JunketUpbeat9386 to r/beyondthebump [link] [comments]

I wish there was a better way to organize your closet in the customization screen. Like tags or something.
Since I removed the 650 closet limit, my closet has exploded. I like to dress my pets for the seasons/holidays, so I changes their customs often. Currently the closet is organized in the order in which the items were added to the closet, with an option to sort by alphabetical order, oldest to newest, or by NP/NC, or alternatively you can search for what you want. There is also an option to sort by zone, but it doesn't even list all of the zones.... ex: "static" is missing. I wish we could add tags for easier organization. Ex: all Christmas items, or all items I want for a specific pet, etc. What are your thoughts? submitted by /u/Significant-Lab-701 to r/neopets [link] [comments]

AITAH for telling my (23f) bf (24) that it’s his fault if he misses our flight and that I’ll continue without him?
I am NOT the Original Poster. That is u/busyastralprojecting. She posted in r/AITAH Do NOT comment on Original Posts. Latest update is 7 days old. Mood Spoiler: good ending for OOP Original Post: August 14, 2024 my boyfriend and i planned a trip for the end of the summer months ago. last night we were still trying to decide how we’d get to the airport, when my mom told me that she could take us before work. i told my boyfriend who lives 30 mins from my house to be at my house no later than 6am for my mother to drive us to the airport at 6:15. he promised that he would be there around 5:45. this morning, he was nowhere to be seen or heard from until around 6:20. he told me that his phone “fell” and he didn’t hear it. by then, my mom had to leave and take just me or she’d be late to work. i told him that he should drive to the airport or get an uber. his mom decides that she will drive him an hour to the airport, since he was too late for my mom to take us. he gets to the airport a little after me and i check in our bags. we get to the bag drop, and he realizes he does not have his ID. his wallet is at his house which is about an hour from the airport. i tell him that i’m going to continue to TSA and go to the gate. his mom is going back to get his wallet, which will obviously take a while. i tell him that i’m getting on the flight regardless, and that if he misses it then it’s a result of his own mishaps. he then begins to ask me what to do if he misses it. i tell him that he’s an adult, and should figure out a way to make it to our destination by contacting customer service. i planned everything for the trip down to the flights and travel arrangements. i feel like at this point, i’ve done all i can do to ensure a successful and smooth trip and i don’t feel as if it’s my responsibility to do damage control for him if he misses the flight. there is no refund for the airBNB that we split the price for if we do not go. AITAH for continuing without him? Relevant Comments: (OOP had hundreds of comments so I only picked a few) Commenter: Is he like this in other aspects of life? Honestly, it sounds exhausting. If so, some time alone will help you gain some perspective. Enjoy your trip, alone or otherwise. OOP: He’s often late, which is why I told him an earlier time specifically to avoid that. I called him endlessly and he didn’t wake up until way after the time we agreed upon. His mom had to go to him and wake him up. I told her that I was going to leave without him and she said, “He was up late”. So was I…I already told him that I was getting exhausted of planning literally everything and that I want him to begin to take some charge and responsibility, and this happens… Commenter: Sounds like maybe he should go on a trip with his mom instead, since she’s so willing to put up with his 💩💩. OOP: This is a pattern that I’ve noticed from her repeatedly. It’s definitely making me reconsider some things now. Commenter: It feel like you are mothering him, since you need to keep on calling him to wake up and keep up with the itinerary for the trip. Does he alway need to keep on rely on people to remind him? OOP: He has overslept and been late for different things on multiple occasions. He does work hard and used to work night shifts, so I let it slide. But he did not work yesterday and took a nap during the day. For context - I didn’t take a nap, did errands all day and stayed up late for online class. Still woke up on time 🙃 Get on that plane! I’m going to board! When we were checking our bags, he asked me how to put the bag tag on… at that point I was over it and already decided I’m taking this vacation, with him or not. He’s actually leaving for Marine bootcamp on Sept. 3 which is why we planned the trip. OOP clarifies: I have ADHD as well so I understand. I’ll forget where I put a hair clip that’s in my hair. I tell him to set multiple alarms all the time and he has an Apple watch that’s never charged. (to another commenter): I have ADHD so I completely understand. The issue with that is, he doesn’t really advocate for himself. He has struggled with mental health issues and refused to go to therapy. He has cystic acne and only this year saw a dermatologist because I called around places in our state until I found someone that would schedule an appointment. Commenter: NTA. Please update as to whether or not he made the flight. OOP: He’s currently asking me the gate number (I already told him). I told him to download the app and gave him the confirmation number. He told me to “stop making it harder for him”. Commenter: Did you reply "Stop making it harder for ME" OOP: I put my phone on airplane mode, as the pilot directed 😂 Commenter: Erm...how do I say this gently... What are his redeeming qualities? OOP: He’s very kind, loving, respectful, and will provide just about anything morally or materially that I need. Buuut considering whether that’s enough now. Commenter: Did he make the plane? OOP: No. Coming later tonight on another (to another commenter:) Lol, he didn’t make the flight but he’s on another one later tonight. I also was really beginning to enjoy the idea of going alone. Commenter: Best part of this story was, my bf, not my fiancée, keep him if you want, but how long do you want to give him enough time to grow up? OOP: Lol, that’s true. We have been discussing marriage for a while. I’m going to reverse that discussion later today. (to another): Well, we’re on the trip together for 5 days. He’s arriving later I don’t want to sour the rest of the time. But once we return I will make an important decision. Mini Update: 16 hours later He’s here. I told him I don’t want to talk about it tonight. Mini Update 2: next day There are no bad vibes. We had a conversation and he agreed with my concerns. Update Post: August 18, 2024 (4 days later) This is long, but asked for. Skip the first body of text if you read the OG post. I think the trip - despite the mishaps and the conclusion that I’m going to come to at the end of this note - was eye opening for me and I’m grateful for it. I have had a track record of misjudging and misinterpreting behaviors, and I promised myself that it wouldn’t happen again. So I set my boundaries early. The trip began with him oversleeping and therefore not meeting me at my house to carpool to the airport. Not a heinous act in itself, but something that has happened multiple times on different occasions. Once he finally awoke and met me at the airport, late, his discovered that he did not have his wallet. The most important thing to have when traveling. Wondering how someone could forget something so essential, I waited for him to look for it to no avail. He called his mother - blaming her for rushing him in the morning (which could have been avoided by him being a responsible adult and waking up on time and preparing his things the night before) and not taking any accountability. Luckily, she came to his rescue. But not soon enough. He had to rebook his flight and arrived later that day. In the process, still asking me what gate number the flight was (while the gate number was displayed on a screenshot that he sent me), instead of using the information that I spoon fed to him. I organized the entire trip. Down to transportation, flight, accommodations, and more. I gave him a small ball to carry, and he still dropped it. In the process of dropping that ball, he failed to take accountability for his actions. I should’ve known how the rest of the trip would go. During the trip, there were multiple instances that solidified the feelings that were already looming. Outbursts of anger that were followed by child-like behavior and excuses. When confronted, there were only excuses and a lack of accountability. All followed by, “but I’m trying so hard”, “what am I doing wrong?”, despite the issue being directly explained. He lost his debit card and despite my efforts in tracing his steps, calling businesses we visited, and everything, he stormed off ahead of me in range, leaving me behind, walking alone on the street. When I explained why that bothered me and was unacceptable, here came more excuses and rambling about how he didn’t mean for it to happen, but still did it. While walking to different restaurants, he cussed at men who’d even look at me. Stare them down and almost cause a scene. He misplaced his wallet before dinner, and acted in the same rage full manner - cussing, slamming things, throwing items around, instead of calmly looking for his wallet. I sat there in disbelief, as this behavior had not been something I had seen before. I told him that this was unattractive and demonstrated a lack of control and emotional maturity. More excuses. There are probably more examples that I could use, but they’re fleeing my mind. It’s the night before departure. I’m in tears. It started at the beach. We decided to take a night swim. All was well, until he lost his ring in the ocean. Luckily, I was right next to him, so I was able to quickly use my hands and grab it. He got out to put it in the sand (smart, right). Once we were done, he got upset that I sent his mom a video of him dancing. I walked away because I didn’t want to hear it. He then called me back to tell me that he lost his ring in the sand. We look for the ring (by we, I mean me on my hands and knees and him walking around with a flashlight). I finally find it. We begin to walk back to the room. I say, “can I say something serious? I am beginning to feel like your mother sometimes. Keeping track of your things and helping you do damage control”. He responds with a lot - how I didn’t have to help him, how I don’t acknowledge everything he’s been doing (like calling Ubers and paying for things), how I’m not like his mom and how he didn’t ask me to do anything. In anger, I tell him fuck you and walk away. Yes, I know this is unkind and I did apologize for my behavior later. I walk to the room alone. He begs me to talk when he gets there, and I don’t want to. I shower and tell him one thing, “this trip has really made me reconsider whether I want to be in the relationship”. He goes berserk - begging me please to talk to him, saying that I don’t acknowledge all the “good” he’s doing, on and on. I tell him that I don’t wish to have the conversation, don’t wish to be touched, and want to be left alone. Here, I also apologize for my rude words (without making any excuses). He tells me I’m always rude (prior to dating, I did use harsh words when he showed up to my house unexpectedly and demonstrated other signs of emotional immaturity and ignored my wishes). He begins to try to hug me, I tell him to get off of me. He continues to touch me as I try to lay down in the bed, trying to hug and hold my hand. Here, I break down in tears. I run to the bathroom and begin to sob. I come out, as he’s continually crying and begging me to talk to him. He begins to raise his voice and make a scene. I run to grab the pull out bed from the closet to sleep on. He blocks me and pushes the bed, telling me I don’t need it. I get increasingly aggregated because I’m being blocked, and tell him to move out of my way and leave me alone. He doesn’t, and protests by sitting on the pull out bed. I rip the comforter off of the actual bed and make a bed on the floor. He takes the blanket and pillows from under me, saying he won’t let me sleep on the floor. He continues to yell in my ear for me to get up, that he loves me, put everything behind us, while he keeps pulling the pillow that I reclaimed. He has finally left me alone on the floor. Leaving for the airport in 3 hours. Relevant Comments: OOP clarifies: I was thinking about changing my flight, honestly. I am still trying to figure out the logistics of a break up, like how and when that could happen. After OOP checks on other flights: The flight we have is the earliest of the day. There are others, but no confirmed seats, only standby. Commenter: Thats only going to escalate in future arguments. Get home safe please and never see this man again OOP: It’s concerning because the type of rage that was ignited in me is a type that has only come out with past exes. Being cornered and my personal space violated is something I just cannot do… at all. I will say that I did try to push him out of the way, maybe I shouldn’t have, and raised my voice because I was afraid that his yelling would get us kicked out (our reservation has a quiet hours policy). Get the hell out of where you are staying: I was thinking about this. The AirBnB is under my name. I already know that I can’t really trust him with following the closing procedures, so I’m worried about incurring a fee if he leaves something incomplete. Also, if I get up now, I KNOW he will try to prevent me from leaving. Commenter: You had every right to express your anger and frustration. Women are raised from girlhood to "be nice" and "get along" and "keep the peace". The time for that is over. It's now "fuck this shit" time. Stop being nice. Be blunt. Be rude if you have to. You need to get him the hell away from you and you need to never believe his sniveling "I'm trying" bullshit again. OOP: I told him “fuck you” earlier, when I told him that I felt like I was his mom and he said, “You didn’t have to help me look for the ring, I just asked for help”. He said I was rude and that he would never speak to me like that and that his friends tell him to leave me because of how rude I always am to him. He also called me rude because I left to the room and had the key and he had to get someone else to let him in. Commenter: If you feel unsafe: Record a future conversation and send it to his mom. OOP: I just thought of this…hours later. Although, I do feel like it will not change anything. When he walked away from me the other day, I told her, and she told me to “just be happy with him and be in love and work things out”. She makes excuses for him constantly. Commenter: When I read your first post, I was concerned. He sounded like a teenage gamer. But during the holiday he was very aggressive. Time to get out. Just block him on everything. Why I talked about talking to his mom was bc. she has enabled his behavior for his entire life. She knows what he’s like. OOP: Yeah. There was an instance recently when we went to a soccer game where he was aggressive. He had drinks, and some guy was bumping into him. I was sober and believed it wasn’t intentional (I witnessed the entire thing) but he swore the guy was bumping him on purpose. It was a crowded game and we were exiting, everyone was touching someone. He began to heavily body check the guy back with extreme force. He went to the bathroom and the guy came up to me and told me that my boyfriend is going to meet the wrong person one day. So embarrassing. I should have audio taped, I feel stupid now. However, I feel like she would definitely make an excuse for him, nonetheless. Commenter: Why did you start dating someone who couldn't be respectful even before you were dating? OOP: He wasn’t like this before. The aggression is something I haven’t witnessed. Commenter: I meant the showing up unexpectedly and "ignoring your wishes." What got you past the red flags and into this? I'm not trying to be mean. Just understand. OOP: I guess the apologies and giving the benefit of the doubt (that so many people were upset that I didn’t give him in my initial post). I do like to give a first, and even second chance. I’m not perfect and don’t expect my partners to be. He apologized for the previous behavior and made certain strides in areas, but obviously not the ones that matter the most. Commenter: Serious question. Is he an alcoholic? He dated one and on a mini vacation he acted just like this. A petulant child. Or is he just weaponized immaturity? OOP: In the past, he has used alcohol to “self medicate” and deal with emotions. On one instance, his mom had to drive to his Apple location and found him drunk, asleep in a car outside a friend’s house when he promised her he’d be home soon. I’m not sure if the frequency or amount of his drinking would warrant a formal diagnosis of alcoholism, but both of his parents had issues with alcohol during his entire childhood. His mom says that he always gets “like that” when he drinks, as well. We don’t drink together often as a couple, but when we do this has never happened before, we’ve just gone to clubs and had fun. Mini Update: A few hours later I’m at the airport now. When I left he was asleep. He hasn’t messaged me or read my texts and his location isn’t moving, so I’m assuming he’s still asleep. Boarding in 10 mins. Several hours later: I left for the airport, alone. When I left he was asleep. When I boarded the plane, he texted me saying that I should have woken him up so that he didn’t miss the flight. He said that I should have at least woken him up because apparently his phone was on silent. One relevant comment: He actually overslept because I left while he was sleeping to get to the airport. He missed the flight. I sent him a text explaining everything and did let him know to not come to my house or I will call the police. Another few hours later: Thank you! He is currently texting my mom long paragraphs trying to explain his behavior. I told her to ignore him. OOP clarifies that she broke up with him: I did it via text. NEW UPDATE from OOP in the comments of this post: Hey! Thanks for your support, we did break up. He is leaving in a week. (to a different commenter): OP here. I did break up with him via text. I told him not to contact my parents or come to our home. He did both the next day, texting my mom and leaving flowers at my doorstep. He is continually telling me he will seek therapy and that I am the only woman for him who he still loves. And a clarification: OP here - I finished the clean-up tasks before I left and while he was asleep. About ex's job: OP here - He was fired twice for tardiness from walmart and a warehouse Ex's mom: His mother actually told him that he should move on and find someone who doesn’t fight with him all the time. I told her initially that his behavior was abusive and she agreed that he sounded like his dad, her ex husband (physically, sexually, verbally, emotionally abusive). I told her that I wouldn’t even consider him in the future unless he sought therapy and that I had concerns about him passing bootcamp. She told me that therapy makes your brain sick and that he should find someone who believes in him. I didn’t know Lego was this heat resistant.
Lost my whole apartment in a house fire, Chicago 10/24. Major display pieces, closet of organized bricks, my whole office featuring Rivendell, Diagon Alley, The Daily Bugle, and custom Sanctum Sanctorum/Avengers Tower - all gone. Thankfully, no one was hurt. But, man, this really stings. submitted by /u/BumbleScream to r/lego [link] [comments]
