Showing off the diffusion effect from my design language. I’m working on being a digital fabrication sculpture artist, and developed a repeatable aesthetic that focuses on thin walls extruded from patterns. Long story short, I’m about to be selling physical 1 of 1s, but wanted to make some STLs available for people who want to build some themselves https://www.maygra.one/samthurmanstls ^ this link includes 5 designs, each with the necessary STLs, as well as a print guide, assembly guide, and licensing agreement. :) oh and the guides also include links to the lighting equipment if you want to add the light and not just use them as sculpture. I built these with a few custom computational modeling scripts in grasshopper and 3D printed these bad boys. I would share the scripts, but I need to protect my IP as I want to make these full time, and already invested so much effort into them :) In regards to my modeling process, here are some details: Essentially I have a series of grasshopper scripts to make these designs, and once they’re made, I turn them into a mesh and export them as STLs and 3D print them. First I made a script that sort of “fractalizes” any sort of linework. Then, the next script takes closed curves and builds a surface out of them, and if the curves are open it offsets them to build a closed curve off the open curves’ profiles, and turns them into a surface based on how thick I want the walls. Those fractalized surface patterns are then extruded to meet the profile of any 3D shape I want. This is also done with an original custom script. Next I have a script that bores out a hole where I want it, and flattens the tops based on where I want the contact point to be when I stack them. I’m honestly confused about my hair. Some days my curls look amazing and I feel like myself, and the next day it’s just frizz and flatness. And these days, everywhere on Instagram, I can see people talking about diffusers for curls, if you want them to be bouncy and all...I was just thinking if I really need one or it's just a new influencer hype?? Right now, I just air-dry my hair and the results are…okayishh. Not that good tbh, so I was thinking of getting one. Then again, I don’t want to waste money on another new product when maybe what I really need is to build a proper curly hair care routine with basics like a good curl shampoo and conditioner first. I guess I’m just tired of not knowing what’s worth it and what’s not. Has a diffuser actually made a real difference for any of you, or should I focus on products before jumping into new ones?Would love to hear your honest experiences. I’ve been testing reed diffusers from several luxury and luxury-adjacent brands—Trudon, LAFCO, Lampe Berger, Votivo, and Capri Blue—and wanted to share my experiences in case it helps anyone else navigating the world of passive fragrance. TL;DR: Not all reed diffusers are created equal. Some are powerhouses. Others? Decorative dust collectors. Here’s what I’ve found: 🥇 Best in Class: Trudon I’ve tried Cyrnos and Versailles—both are incredible. Strong, consistent throw for months. The vessels are much larger than they look online—truly a centerpiece. Their reeds are extra thick and long, which I suspect plays a huge role in diffusion. Honestly, I thought I was just going anosmic to diffusers in general... but no. Trudon proved the others just weren’t working. 🥈 Solid Performer: LAFCO I’ve used Star Magnolia, and it filled a small room beautifully for weeks. Not as dramatic as Trudon, but definitely a strong second. 😐 Meh-but-Okay: Lampe Berger Under the Olive Tree had a lovely scent and a decent throw… for about 2–3 weeks. Then it faded quickly. Not terrible, but not worth the price for longevity. 😬 Complete Flops: Votivo Tried Clean Crisp White and Red Currant. Both were duds. No throw, no lasting power, no redemption arc. I flipped the reeds regularly. I tried different rooms. Nada. 🤔 A Few Takeaways: Flipping the reeds weekly does help, but some diffusers just have better formulation and materials. I suspect reed thickness, fragrance oil concentration, and bottle opening size all contribute to overall performance. Don’t trust photos online—Trudon’s vessel size is massive compared to how it looks in product images. Anyone else have similar experiences? What are your holy grail reed diffusers? Any niche or indie brands that outperform the big names? Been a few months since I posted an update, but I'm almost two years without a cut now and these are becoming a bit of biatch to maintain. I used to wash and use product every day and let em air dry because they'd sit pretty well on my head after a shower without too much work (see previous posts for old routine), but lately they're just hanging over my face when wet so I'm not sure if I should get a cut or find a way to hold them back after using product. Seeing a lot of ads for Aroma 360, hotel collection, and sentiment devices - they all seem the same machines just branded differently. There’s also a company called Scentfluence - who actually designed fragrances for hotel 1 and Hyatt, so they seem a little more reputable. Doubt any are truely bifl… but any thoughts experiences on these? I like the idea of giving a room or entire home a subtle ambient aroma like the hotels do. But some of these companies are pushing their products hard, offering huge discounts and seemingly inflated prices otherwise….
