Minnesota hunters are donating more venison for local food banks -- Minnesota's Hunter-Harvested Venison Donation Program has been around since 2007, but it's growing more popular. The idea is simple: Hunters donate deer to local processors, who prep it for food shelves and feeding programs.

Is a food processor worth it?
For someone who cooks a lot I have never touched a food processor and hardly know what they’re used for. I saw a serious eats recipe for Toum recently that strongly recommended a food processor over a blender which got me interested. How often do you use yours? Looking for best food processor that is worth buying nowadays, can somebody give me options?
Update: After reading through everyone’s comments and doing a bit more research, I decided to go with the #ad Braun MQ9187XL MultiQuick 9 Hand Blender with Imode Technology. It seems like a solid choice for the types of cooking I do and shouldn’t feel flimsy or be a hassle to clean. Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences, it really helped me narrow things down. I cook most nights and my old processor finally died after years of chopping onions and shredding cheese. I’m not a pro or anything, just a home cook who does a mix of soups, sauces, hummus, and the occasional pizza dough, so I’m trying to find something solid that won’t be annoying to clean or feel flimsy. Size wise I cook for two but like leftovers, if that helps. What should I be looking for in a best food processor for this kind of cooking, and are there any models people here have actually used for a while and still like? appreciate any real world thoughts, thank you. submitted by /u/Blan_Uyiosa to r/Cooking [link] [comments]

Food processor
Are the kitchen aid processors any good for chopping cabbage very fine for cole slaw? That would be my main use for it. I have an old GE one and it's terrible at this task. It chops the first chuck well but when I add another chunk it just sit on top and wont go down to the blade. I have to take out the part that is chopped before I do any more. This is a slow process. Is just the nature of the beast or is there another brand that would do better. I appreciate any advice. submitted by /u/Ok-Day-9685 to r/Kitchenaid [link] [comments]

Do you use a food processor. Why or why not? Tips appreciated!
I had a Cuisinart for probably 30+ years, but rarely used it. For some strange reason, my husband decided I needed an upgrade (probably because my old one had yellowed with age). He got me one much larger than my old one. I didn't touch it for a couple of months, but finally pulled it down from the pantry shelf to give it a try because I'm making Chicken Paprikash which involves a lot of chopping. It is very heavy. It was inconsistent with its chopping results. Even with cutting everything into the recommended 1" pieces and using a spatula to move things around, I ended up with chunks and puree. I know the Cuisinart is great for massive amounts of shredding or even for nice consistent slices, but I've never mastered chopping. Plus, it makes a mess, and has several pieces that need to be washed vs. a knife and a cutting board for chopping. Plus, I had to get those out to do the pre-chop anyway! Do you have any tips or ideas to better use this thing? submitted by /u/NoEmailAssociated to r/Cooking [link] [comments]

Kitchen appliances: immersion blender, food processor, regular blender
Cleaning my food processor, I was sad to see the top of the plastic blade shaft is being shredded, no doubt putting plastic bits into my family's food :( https://preview.redd.it/3sdc6blc3dwf1.png?width=638&format=png&auto=webp&s=fd68c6483f21888c320b5e62ec271123a890acc8 Here's the model we have, Cuisinart Elemental 8-cup food processor https://www.cuisinart.com/elemental-8-cup-food-processor/FP-8GMP1.html Very disappointing but I see other reviews don't have this problem, so we may just need to replace this blade shaft and be more careful and watchful. Then there's the immersion blender, which I've read can leak lubricants into food! If I recall correctly that was one small study and did not cover the Braun immersion blenders which we were gifted. Ours seems sturdy, no visible damage, and there's at least one gasket between the food-contact blade and the motor above. Still a bit concerning and the whole unit is plastic, so, not great dipped in hot soup! And lastly there's our blender. Ours is pretty good without spending a fortune. Glass container, metal blades. The blade base is plastic so that is food contact sadly, and there's a silicone gasket beneath that to seal the food container. The lid is also plastic but has minimal food contact. Looking around online, it seems like there are no plastic-free options for these appliances. The closest I could find was blenders with even less plastic, and those are very expensive all stainless steel options. We might upgrade to that someday, but for now, it seems like just adapting to use a blender only would be the way to cut plastic out of food prep. These appliances are, I think, the last plastics we use in food preparation! We use the blender and immersion blender for soups, blender for smoothies and some other random things, and food processor for ingredients prep, hummus, and pesto. Seems like our blender is our safest bet. Anyone reaching different conclusions or is this the situation here in the USA nowadays? submitted by /u/ElementreeCr0 to r/PlasticFreeLiving [link] [comments]

BIFL: Food processors. Which ones actually do what they promise to do?
More often than not, food processors promise you the moon and don't do shit. Other than making a puree of your food. Which food processors actually works? julienne, dicing, rough chop, fine chop, slicing onions etc. - A wide variety of cut food. And actually last long? I typically chop and prepare my veggies and fruits for the week on Fridays/Saturdays, this way during the week I'm not spending hours cutting up produce. So, a good food processor - that has multiple options and lasts long is a necessity for me. Please suggest something good! submitted by /u/Ok-Pea3414 to r/BuyItForLife [link] [comments]

So, the nutty food processor just gave me an idea, boycott should be extend to 12 weeks. Here’s why.
After seeing his tweet about “it’s been a week and the Loblaws stock has barely dropped.” https://preview.redd.it/mqfl937vv3zc1.jpg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=34e4c254579bea2031ae1e49b35572488a7b3aca He’s right… most investors don’t make financial decisions until they see actual numbers being reported on quarter statements. Also, when the Weston family is the majority shareholder, it’s harder to see that price move. Good thing he’s a food processor and not an investment processor. Anywayssss... We should extend the boycott so it’s clearly reflected in the next quarterly Loblaws financial report. 4 weeks will only affect the report slightly, not giving investors a clear understanding of the boycott affect has on their bottom line. By extending it to 12 weeks, it’ll be fully captured on the report, and shareholders will see the numbers clearly, and start making decisions if they should keep investing in a company with a shaky customer base. I sure hell wouldn’t. The investors should also note how the stock price has been kept afloat by loblaws stock buy back campaign. Which ended recently. Unless loblaw kick off another wave of buy backs. Thank you for the insight Mr Food Processor, you do have your moments. submitted by /u/FoxDieDM to r/loblawsisoutofcontrol [link] [comments]

I am a moron: the food processor is now my friend
So I have had food processors in one form or another for a long time and I only broke them out for specialty sorts of preperations like making nut butters, making pie dough, pureeing baby food, shredding big blocks of cheese, that sort of thing. The kind of stuff that is difficult or impossible to do by hand. Because I am a moron, it never occurred to me that I can use it for other things that I CAN do manually but the machine can do in far less time. Shredding cabbage, chopping vegetables, dicing onions and soup vegetables, making thin cucumber slices. I had always just relegated the food processor to being something I broke out for specialty jobs but I have been greatly under-utilizing the machine and spending more time on food prep than I really needed to. I have now seen the light! submitted by /u/stupidrobots to r/Cooking [link] [comments]
