Never bet against Google. Google is in its strongest position ever.
I stopped doing cheerleading for Google ever since its returns exceeded my expectations. But now it seems this is necessary again because I m seeing lots of people starting to doubt Google's valuation. Someone posted a very sad, poorly put together bear thesis on Google assuming some arbitrary heuristics benchmarks to show the stock is overvalued. But let me tell you it is not overvalued. So I m sharing my side of the story, on how I have been viewing Google. - AI Search is even more profitable and more useful than ordinary Google Search. AI Search also put even more distance between Google and the other search engines. Websites are also getting more advanced, PWAs, Web 3.0 etc. The ecosystem gets stronger with Google at its core. - Android + Google Play. So much potential Google products can be distributed through the Android platform. Mobile apps/gaming is also growing way faster than PC. - GCP. GCP is supported by in-house AI infra and Google's own global telecom infra. This is an insane advantage. - Youtube is actually gaining more viewer time and beating all other streaming services, even when it is already at pole position. Youtube has also only recently became profitable, margins will expand further. In every of Google's core business, it is the strongest (in actual fact, monopolistic) player in the fastest growing segments. It owns the best of the best businesses that exists in this world. You gotta pay for the growth that comes with this. People are also ignoring the sums of parts coming from non-profitable but big businesses. - Gemini/Deepmind alone is a trillion dollar business that has not been monetised, believe it or not. Huge optionality value here too. If AGI is achieved, the market value will literally be exponentially higher. - Waymo which was valued at $126 billion with a TAM of trillions - Other potential moonshots from its labs. There are no other Mag 7 that has the kind of innovative engine Google has. - Equity in Space X, Anthropic, and host of of other companies These alone can add up to 2 trillion or more in valuation. TLDR: Google is King in the tech world. Google has disciplined and very good capital allocation. It is shareholder friendly, not too conservative and has proven it will do whatever it takes to win. This startup winner mentality is very rare. People say never bet against America. In America, I will say never bet against Google. There is a reason why Google always commanded a huge premium PE of 30x ++. It is now back to its historical valuation in a stronger than ever position. It is not overvalued. BUY. Edit: Comments are negative on GOOG. Ignore them. They are basement kids who use ChatGPT for everything, they don't eat out, don't buy stuff and don't travel. All they do is sit in front of ChatGPT and ask nerdy stuff. That's why they think Search is getting outcompeted. These sad people also think 30 PE bad and think NVO, Paypal and Nike are the best investments ever. submitted by /u/Delicious_Invite_127 to r/ValueInvesting [link] [comments]

Bye Google, 20 year email and online life deleted. Couldn't be happier.
I spent the last month slowly degoogling and de-big teching my life in anyway I can without sacrificing major or crucial conveniences but I've found for the most part, almost everything was easily replaceable. Looking back on my Google Drive, all the data I handed over, I couldn't believe how much I willingly gave over without a second thought as to what would happen to it. my transition has been as follows: Gmail --> Proton. Easy switch. IDGAF if they paid some alt-right streamer once. It's a great provider. Drive, Calendar --> Proton atm for the moment. Will go to Nextcloud selfhosted eventually Search --> Searxng locally hosted Mobile --> iOS to GrapheneOS Password Manager & 2FA --> KeepassDX/XC (I don't really see the point in having a separate 2FA app but if there is a strong case for it please LMK! I am following the principle of not having all your pickles in one jar) VPN --> Mullvad & Proton alternating. DNS --> Adguard DNS public server Browser --> Librewolf on desktop, Vanadium on GOS (sucks there is no adblocker, but it is smoothest experience. IronFox slow AF for me) Host OS: Windows (lol) --> Ubuntu Apps: Almost everything now on desktop and mobile is FOSS with some exceptions. Overall Degoogle goal: Prioritizing use of different services, self-hosting whenever possible, go FOSS whenever possible, but keeping the crucial closed-source, big tech apps when the alternatives don't exist or suck. What I can't replace (ATM): Google Maps. I tried all the alternatives. They suck. Constantly wrong business names, no reviews, no public transportation info = non-starter. I liked Organic the most but it was just a pain. Google Maps logged out it is for the time being Uber: Evil company I know, but cheapest option in my country and the competitors are slower and way more expensive. Amazon: Even eviler, but I'm not shopping at 20 different stores, it's a huge waste of time, and my personal experience with Amazon has been they let me return whatever I want, whenever I want. I really do want to get rid of this one more than any other but, I'm not willing to sacrifice so much time and probably money to do so. WhatsApp: I'd have to cut off 90% of my social contacts, so this is also sadly a non-starter. Next steps: I am trying to self-host as much as possible when it is simple and convenient to do so. Looking to self-host calendar, some historical maps data for personal spots I can't log in Google Maps, and eventually images. Overall impression: The process was time consuming but easier than I initially expected. I have also learned a ton about digital privacy, encryption, selfhosting via Docker so it's been very educational. I am not an evangelist but I push alternatives to people who seem receptive and when I know it will not be a headache for them to setup. Appreciate any feedback and good luck to everyone on their journey. Bye Google. submitted by /u/locanse to r/degoogle [link] [comments]

Got rejected by Google... and then accepted a Google offer a couple months later 😅
Still feels a little surreal writing this out. A couple months ago I interviewed with Google for a Network Test Engineer role and got rejected. It stung more than I expected. For a bit I genuinely thought that was it for me and Google. But I didn't really have another option besides just... keep going. So I kept studying networking, brushed up on Python, did some LeetCode, and kept applying. Over the next few months I interviewed with Meta, Amazon, Arista, Nokia, Salesforce — the whole circuit. And then out of nowhere, the same Google team reached out. Today I accepted an offer from Google. I'll be joining as a Network Test Engineer in Sunnyvale this July. I honestly don't have some clean lesson to package this up with. It just kind of feels like the rejection earlier this year wasn't the verdict on me; it was just that one team at that one point in time. Which is easy to say now and was really hard to believe back then. There were stretches where I genuinely questioned whether any of the prep was worth it. Networking concepts, Python, behavioral rounds, mock interviews — it felt like it was never going to end. But looking back, every interview made the next one a little less painful, even the ones that went nowhere. If you're still in it, getting ghosted, opening rejection emails, and wondering if you're just not good enough, I don't have magic advice. Just that it genuinely only takes one yes, and you have no idea which interview that's going to be. Also, this sub helped a lot. Too many hours reading interview recaps and negotiation threads, but genuinely worth it. If you're at Google Sunnyvale or joining around the same time, feel free to reach out. Would love to meet people and would appreciate any advice for navigating the first few months. Good luck to everyone still grinding. 🍻 Edit: Since a few people asked about my background: I have around 3 years of networking experience at Cisco, mainly in network automation and cloud migrations, and I recently graduated with a Master's in Information Systems. i also did a Coop in Nokia as a Software QA in networks(L2/L3) TLDR: Got rejected by Google earlier this year, kept grinding, ended up with offers from Google and Meta, accepted Google. Joining as a Network Test Engineer in Sunnyvale this July. submitted by /u/Icy-Salamander-5114 to r/leetcode [link] [comments]

Bing smart bidding can work, but it usually needs cleaner conversion data and enough volume; I’ve seen better stability by starting with manual CPC, tightening search terms, then switching to automation once the campaign has solid data.

AITA? I snapped at my boyfriend for reading google AI answers to me.
I was driving and we were talking and I asked my BF to look up a number and he gave it. Then I asked him too look up another number and he said how interesting this is the same number. Then I asked: are you reading the google AI answers without looking up the real data? He said everyone does: Then I snapped and sniped: don’t read that to me. This is a thing we’ve had a discussion about before. I hate google AI. It’s so often wrong, it disseminates bullshit data. And once information goes into the brain it can’t go out. And before you know it’s just another fact in your brain and you’re a dumb clown navigating the world with hallucinated fake knowledge. I said to him I beg you don’t read it. Ignore. Please ignore. I begged. Now I snapped. Don ‘t read it to me. Than he yelled for 10 minutes that it was aggressive, that I can’t tell him what to do, that everyone reads it, that I’m going to lose all my friends if I behave like this. That I single handedly ruined the whole night together. I don’t think I’ve ever seen him freak out so much and he went the ‘look what you are making me into’ route. I don’t want him to read Google AI to me. I fucking hate google AI. I said it twice more: I don’t want to hear or read any bullshit from Google AI, I’m trying to protect my brain. the grass really is greener - grateful @ Google
hey all, long time lurker in this sub, using a throwaway account. i started at Google as an L3 SWE about 6 months ago, and just wanted to share some positive things i’ve noticed, both to give some hope and to practice a bit of gratitude after a long grind to get here. this is a long post and a humblebrag so feel free to not read any of this. background: 28yo asian male. worked as an aerospace eng for a few years, pivoted using a CS masters, then worked at a smaller tech company before G. currently in a chill org with moderate impact. not cloud, ads, or AI. i've grinded leetcode for about 2 years, 700+ problems solved, 1750 contest rating. disclaimer: these observations and opinions are purely my own. i'm aware that Google is a massive company, and experiences between engineers can be vastly different depending on team. after 6 months at Google, i’ve noticed several ways that working here has improved my life. i think i’m lucky to have seen/worked at both an entirely different industry and a smaller tech company first. it has provided me a good baseline of how the other side lives, which a lot of people who joined big tech right out of school might not have. there is a lot of talk on reddit/blind about how big tech can be a nightmare, but honestly, my experience has been the opposite. — 1. financial worries have ceased to exist i made a decent living in aero (130k) and at the smaller tech company (110k). this year at G, i am on track to make over 250k. the important thing is that although my TC doubled, the amount i save each month is closer to 7-8x what i saved before. i went from saving about 1k per month to closer to 8k. it is a huge shift. i went from feeling guilty about nights out with friends, expensive dates, small nice-to-have purchases to not really thinking twice about it. that alone was a huge weight off my shoulders. 2. people treat me differently I never really flexed where I worked / went to school, and never appreciated those who showboated things like this. i don't tell people where I work unless explicitly asked. However, it's hard to ignore the difference in the way people treat you once they know you work as a SWE at Google. even though there are companies that pay more and/or are more prestigious, the average non-tech person seems to view Google above places like databricks/snowflake/roblox. •male peers among male peers (especially indian/asian), i notice an immediate increase in respect (lol). suddenly my opinion seems to carry more weight. •women and dating in your later 20s, when dating becomes more purposeful, women tend to treat you better once they find out you work at G. it's almost amusing how when women you date introduce you to their friends, 'he works at Google' is one of the first things i hear, preceding other superficial things like height/wealth/looks. •family i come from a traditional asian household, and my parents have always linked prestige with how well they were doing as parents. now that i work for Google, they treat me more like an adult and brag to their peers whenever they get the chance. not saying i agree with that mindset. 3. my quality of life has significantly improved my day-to-day life looks completely different now. i take the Google shuttle to and from work, get free breakfast and lunch (not gourmet, but definitely better than my own cooking), and get to work in a Google office. it is understated how nice the office is. the downtown views are insane (i am on the 25th floor), the decor is beautiful, and there are couches and chairs everywhere. some people rarely work at their desks. a lot of people on reddit value remote work over any office time, but sitting by a window with a penthouse style view and free snacks makes the day go by faster. 4. coworkers/tools are generally higher quality companies like Google that focus on cheesy traits like 'googlyness' actually seem to end up with healthier teams and more balanced engineers. from what i have seen in my org and nearby orgs, people are friendly, humble, and not blatantly competing for impact. at my previous companies, i commonly ran into super introverted engineers who were hard to work with, unmotivated/incompetent engineers, or worse, know-it-alls who tried to flex their CS knowledge any chance they got. i haven't found many people like that here. in terms of tooling at Google, there is a tool for just about everything (almost a bad thing since you become a bit spoiled). AI tools here are top notch and in general can help you 'eat the frog' pretty easily for tasks like boring refactors/writing design docs as well as spotting errors or teaching you things. 5. my mental health has improved i struggle with comparing myself to others. it used to bother me a lot that people who started as SWEs in big tech right out of college are now one or two levels above me and make two to three times what i make. but the gap has closed enough that it feels easier to manage. at previous companies, i always thought about exit opps and looked at coworkers who left for better places with a pang of jealousy. i was always leetcoding / upskilling on the side just in case a better company would reach out. after six months here, the question has shifted from 'what exit opportunities does this give me' to 'how can i keep my boss happy / stay here as long as possible'. now that i am not constantly looking at the next thing, i feel a lot happier and can focus on other areas of my life. — this is not a complete list, and i am not saying working at Google has no drawbacks. it is still just a job at the end of the day, and work pressure is greater and expectations are higher here. but compared to my past roles, it is far better in almost every way. best of luck to those still grinding LC for an opportunity like this - it's worth it. submitted by /u/stinker-294 to r/leetcode [link] [comments]
