The secret to kitchen clean as you go? There is no sink in Ba Sing Se.
I have been baffled forever, not about HOW to clean the kitchen, but how to keep a kitchen clean despite needing to USE the kitchen and mess it up again. It's hard for me to stop "cooking mode" and begin "cleaning mode" and swap back and forth frequently. I have had mild success the last week pretending that I only have a drain and a faucet and NO SINK BASIN to temporarily set dirty dishes in. All finished vessels, cooking utensils, etc, cannot be left in the sink, because there is "no sink". I cannot let go of the item. It gets rinsed and set in the dishwasher (that I am not allowed to leave full of clean dishes and eat or cook) or it gets sprayed with my dish soap and water blend in a spray bottle, brushed clean with the sink brush or dish rag, rinsed and set in the drying rack. I tried beginning with a sink of soapy water but it was not successful because whenever I have a sink, I pile it full and can't reach in to clean anything. By the time I remember to switch modes, I have about 3 sinkfuls worth of dishes. But now there is no sink in Ba Sing Se. And I cleaned as I went accidentally. submitted by /u/Grammareyetwitch to r/ufyh [link] [comments]

Water in Kitchen Sink not Draining?
Hello everyone, I noticed an issue last week in my mom’s home where the water in kitchen sink was not draining or draining very slowly, as it took a few hours for the water to leave the sink. I was hoping the PVC pipes were just clogged, so I took everything apart and put it back together (Photo 1). However, once I turned the faucet back on and tried to watch the water drain, the same issue as before persisted. I went to Home Depot and bought some new parts, like a replacement for the P-trap and a 1-1/2” X 12” long extension tube, thinking this would help (Photo 2). Once I started investigating more, I realized that the drain exit was way too high and, perhaps, this is what is causing the water to not drain properly through the exit. My mom renovated her kitchen about 7-8 years ago and installed deeper sinks. Looking at the current setup, I am certain the previous workers did not lower the height of the drain exit to accommodate the height difference. I ran the dishwasher to test if water draining from the dishwasher could potentially force the water up into the drain exit since they run through the same line, but now the dishwasher water is pushing up into the sink (Photo 3). Is cutting through the wall and lowering the drain exit the only option? When I told my mom this, she freaked out and told me “No, put it back together. It was working for the past 7 years until you noticed the problem.” HAHA. For what it’s worth, I did see that the drain exit was connected to an elbow that looked like a vertical pipe behind the wall. I’m unsure if this will make the repair job easier or not. Any insight would be greatly appreciated! submitted by /u/Saycheeseqt to r/Plumbing [link] [comments]

@ltk11037, it is installed in the basement and lines run to both one faucet at the kitchen sink and one line goes to the fridge for the water dispenser and ice maker. We also have a water softener. The original well was dug over 100 years ago and we had to have a new one dug last year when the original started collapsing. We realized it when the water became full of clay. It cost over 10k.

$1500 to replace a kitchen sink with customer provided materials, normal?
A local plumbing company came by the house for a quote to replace my existing kitchen sink w/ a new one that I've already purchased. Located in NE Florida. Stainless steel drop in, no unusual characteristics at the location. There is a disposal connected. Old sink is double basin, new sink is single basin, so it will need to be re-plumbed. This is what they quoted me: Summary - Installation of customer supplied top mount sink basin, new kitchen faucet and reconnection of drain lines and reinstallation of existing garbage disposal onto new sink basin. $749 Standard Kitchen Sink Install or Replacement - Customer Provided $414 Standard Kitchen Faucet Install or Replacement - Customer Provided $347 Install Standard Garbage Disposal - Customer Provided $1,510 – before tax! I politely declined service and am waiting to hear back on another quote. I've pulled the old sink three times myself, twice to replace the faucet and once to replace the disposal. I just didn't want to fool around with new pipes for this one. If they all come back $1500, I'm at least going to give it a shot! submitted by /u/thewilldog to r/handyman [link] [comments]

While I never feel like it’s fully finished, I’ve poured so much love and energy into it that it finally feels like “me” and wanted to share! We rent but are very lucky to have open minded landlords. Some things we have done: • Painted every room, some with lime wash • replaced every ceiling light fixture & added medallions • added picture molding and painted closet doors, and added vintage hardware • replaced door knobs • redid kitchen backsplash tile • replaced kitchen sink and faucet • new bathroom vanity • added wainscoting and wallpaper to the hallway • added brass hardware to kitchen cabinets … and much more! submitted by /u/lindsey_what to r/interiordecorating [link] [comments]

Kitchen Sink Soap Dispensers - Does anyone really use them?
Picking out new kitchen sink/faucet and wondering about the auxiliary soap dispenser things. I have one now and never use it. It’s poorly made/installed and it kind of wobbles and twirls around. I don’t see why someone would use it for dish soap - wouldn’t you want to put the dish soap exactly where you want it (on dishes or in dishpan)? So is it more intended for hand soap? Also what are the qualities of a “good” soap dispenser? I would think one with a long spout would be one but anything else?? submitted by /u/jaluvic11 to r/kitchenremodel [link] [comments]

Built my first home at age 30. Designed the kitchen myself and completed it with my dad who owns a cabinet shop. The kitchen is my absolute favorite part.
Been moved in for 10 months now and it sure is sweet living in your own home, especially one you built for yourself. It took 18 months to complete. I work from home, so I was often able to work on the house during the day and work at nignt. 3/2 ~2300 under roof, nothing crazy. Made it my own in lots of ways but the cabinetry is really where I left my touch. I spent a long time designing the kitchen and master bath. No, I don't have enough lights 😂. Kitchen is Sundance stained cherry and black stained oak with Quantum Quartz - bianco tiffone. Bath is paint grade maple with SW ballard blue and Cambria Inverness Cobalt. Delta 45" sink with dual Moen touchless faucets. This is one of my absolute favorite features. My wife and I can both be using the sink at the same time. Highly recommended this as a custom touch!! 30" GE profile induction range paired with 36" profile 600cfm hood. I really like the hood being wider than the range, it definitely helps capture all those gases. Cabinets start at 90" and bump up 6" each step with the top of the center cabinet being at 126" cathedral is at 144". Cabinets left and right of hood are 66" split between 42" wood panel and 24" glass. Still not sure what I'll display in there yet, but even if nothing I love the look a little bit of glass added. Anyways, hope this gives some inspiration on style or color combinations. submitted by /u/itsJoeJoeyJoseph to r/Homebuilding [link] [comments]

ELI5 - How did our kitchen sink faintly pick up AM radio?
A conversation with a friend made me suddenly recall that when I was a kid in the early 80’s, we could occasionally hear a faint rendition of the major local AM station coming from the faucet of the kitchen sink. We lived just a mile or two from the broadcast antenna. It was very faint and had a spooky sizzling quality, but it was unmistakable. Our wall-mounted telephone also picked it up, but more distinctly. I can understand the telephone noise reason, as there’s an amplifier and speaker. But a faucet? How? submitted by /u/flock-of-nazguls to r/explainlikeimfive [link] [comments]

Kitchen sink holders fell off. No visible damage, sink still in place. Should I worry?
I was changing the kitchen faucet when I noticed the kitchen sink is missing some holders. I don’t see any issues with the sink but don’t know if I should do something about it or just let it be. submitted by /u/aparecerwa to r/DIY [link] [comments]

LPT: Run your kitchen faucet until it turns hot just before turning on your dishwasher otherwise most of the startup water will be cold and less effective.
