Upcycling Cast Iron Garden Furniture
I’ve always wondered why so many old cast iron garden benches end up being scrapped. A lot of them are actually far better built than modern garden furniture. The cast iron ends are heavy, strong and often over 50 years old. Most of the time the problem is simply rust and worn wooden slats, both of which can be fixed. Restoring one properly can completely transform it. Clean the ironwork, remove the rust, apply a proper metal primer, repaint it and replace the wooden slats and suddenly you have something that looks almost new again. I’ve been restoring these for a while now and it’s satisfying seeing something that looked beyond saving brought back to life. Recently I put together a set of guides explaining the process step by step for anyone interested in doing their own restoration. If anyone is curious they’re here: https://www.etsy.com/shop/MarksCastIronRestore Please give my store a "Like" But mainly I’m just interested in seeing other restoration projects people have done. submitted by /u/Diligent_Bedroom2843 to r/shedditors [link] [comments]

Maximum’s Upcycled ‘Billex’ Process Turns Discarded Bank Notes into Furniture
Money manufacturers the world over are forever contending with counterfeiters. Before the U.K. introduced a new pound coin in 2017, for example, the earlier version was easy enough to fake that there were tens of millions of fraudulent copies in circulation. The same goes for paper bank notes, which over the years have been printed with increasingly high-tech features such as holograms, watermarks, and distinctive material blends. More recently, many countries have also implemented plastic coatings. Banque de France, a central money-producing outfit in Europe, has adopted a technology called EverFit, which includes a polymer coating on cotton-blend notes that increases durability. Every year, up to three billion notes may be printed, but they must adhere to the strictest standards of technical quality. If they don’t, they’re shredded. One drawback, though, is that they’re not recyclable. That’s where Paris-based furniture design studio Maximum saw a unique opportunity. Maximum’s unique line of stools, called Billex, repurposes the masses of discarded bills into modern, functional objects. With a cotton substrate and two layers of plastic coating, the tiny fragments can be manipulated with heat and compressed into a hard shape. Not only is the stool a useful and stylish design piece unto itself, produced in a variety of colors, but the Billex concept is also something of a prototype. It can be employed for a wide range of applications, as the shredded notes—and the stools themselves—can be upcycled and compressed into virtually any shape. See more on Maximum’s Instagram. I live across the street from ikea so it lives in my mind rent free. I’ve been upcycling/designing my own furniture using ikea parts for fun.
Ultimate skadis bedside table featuring inbuilt svallet lamp. All extra parts are 3d printed and push fit. Bondholm outdoor bar table custom top and paint job - it’s a playable puzzle that only goes back one way. I also use skadis a lot in the house for open organisation systems which help me as I’m neurodiverse and love seeing what I have clearly. The board above the table is a device charging station. Next I’m working on a coffee table designed from as-is section parts submitted by /u/Shelbylove2 to r/IKEA [link] [comments]

Upcycle or Donate unwanted furniture?
I live in Inverurie and have a few pieces of furniture I want to get rid of (a PC desk, coffee table, lamp and a PC monitor) but I would prefer not chucking them in the bin as they are all in great condition just not needed. I got rid of facebook but then I realised that means I can't use the marketplace to get rid of this stuff so wondering if anyone knows of any group or something where I can take this to or arranged to have it collected Thanks in advance submitted by /u/StevenKnowsNothing to r/Aberdeen [link] [comments]

Let’s say I wanted to make cutting boards (preferably end grain) could this $60 solid cherry cabinet be broken down, sanded and planed, boards stacked and glued, to be able to make that?
