I am willing to spend more for outdoor furniture that is BIFL, looking for outdoor couch and lounge chairs, maybe a table and chairs. I’ve heard that Polywood brand is great and made of durable recycled high-density polyethylene (HDPE) plastics. Obviously you would need to get new cushions every few years, but the frame should last forever. But Polywood is very expensive for being plastic. Hey folks, my husband and I are in the market for some outdoor furniture. We've got a large covered patio so we're looking for a sofa/sectional, lounge chairs, coffee table, and a dining set. We already have a fire pit, but that isn't under the patio and we need chairs for that, too. I've read that teak and aluminum are great for the frame, sunbrella is the go-to for cushions and Polywood seems to be a good brand. Names have been changed to maintain some confidentiality. My background info: My wife passed away when my daughter was very young. I was still in college, but with the help of my parents, managed to finish college and graduate school while raising her. I've dated a few times since the death of my wife, but haven't been able to maintain a serious relationship due to my career and the responsibilities of raising my daughter. My relationship with my daughter, Sarah, has always been very good. Sarah shared my love of the outdoors so we used to go hiking, kayaking and camping together quite often. In the last year or so, she seemed to become interested in other activities at school so she hasn't spent as much time with me. I'm perfectly ok with that, she's growing up and coming into her own. Financially we're very secure, I've been fortunate to make a nice living in a career I enjoy, and the hours are pretty manageable. Despite that, I've tried not to spoil my daughter and make sure she understand the importance of work. In exchange for an allowance and gas money, she has to complete chores around the house as well as help our elderly neighbor (she's 90) with things like taking out the trash, getting groceries, etc. She's an A-student, participates well in school activities and used to be a girl scout until she was 14. Honestly, I've always been very proud of her. She was out with her friends Saturday to watch a movie. I had a contractor come over to replace a couple of windows in the house while she was out. Now, I've always respected her space, and she knew about this before hand. I ended up having to move around some of the furniture in her room and discovered a small box behind her drawers. Curiosity got the best of me and I opened it after the contractor was done, and there was about $3000 in cash inside! That's way too much money for her to have. After the discovery, I snooped around her room a bit and found some expensive brand-name clothing in her closet that I had never seen her wear before. Some were a bit too mature for my taste, but that's a discussion for another day. Since then, I've doubled checked my accounts to see if she had secretly taken money from my accounts, but no. I never carry much cash on me so she couldn't have stolen it from me. I don't think she's selling drugs, because I never found a stash in her room. She's not dating anybody as far as I know, so it couldn't be a boyfriend's money either. I haven't discussed the discovery with her yet, but I intend to do it tonight. Edit: My daughter doesn't have a part-time job. She does have a savings account that I opened for her with about $1200 in it, which is why I'm worried she's keeping this money secret. She's accessed her savings account before to buy things like a new phone and camera, as well as gifts and other smaller purchases. She gets $50 a week in allowance, but if she wants to buy electronics or other things that she wants, it comes out of her savings. Any expenditure from extracurricular activities also comes out of her allowance. As for the neighbor, I've told her before that she does not have to give my daughter anything for helping out, since I'm already paying her via allowance. Anne wanted her to have the money to help with college expenses, and told Sarah to keep it a secret from me because I've always refused to accept money from her. Sarah also told me that part of the money was her own. She had been saving up for my birthday present and didn't want to put it in the savings account because, well, she'd have to ask me and it wouldn't be a surprise anymore. Later in the conversation, I brought up the expensive clothing. Those were throwaways from her friend's mother. Her friend is really tall so she couldn't wear them and gave them to Sarah instead. We’ve started noticing these dark orange stains appearing in streak-like patterns on our outdoor furniture cushions. At first, it was just one cushion, but now they’re showing up on nearly every upholstered surface of the set. We’ve tried cleaning them with detergent and even bleach, but nothing seems to work. Has anyone seen something like this before or know what could be causing it? It's Spring so I'm considering finally buying patio furniture. I wonder if folks have mid/long-term experiences from buying patio furniture from Costco? Some additional info: Budget is around $2000 Patio space is rectangular 14fx26ft (364sqft), would prefer to leave enough room to where it feels somewhat open Mostly shaded, so dark vs light materials are not important Would prefer to bring my own fire pit, not have one supplied Prefer very low maintenance materials, but happy to store cushions away from the rain Questions: Do folks generally recommend getting it delivered from Costco.com to avoid having to transport the furniture themselves and get more options? Does anyone have outdoor furniture they can leave out year round? I live near Boston where we get high humid heat in the summer and snow and rain in the winter. Most people put away their furniture for the winter but I'd like something lower maintenance that doesn't rust too much and without separate cushions that get dirty and faded easily. I'd love to keep it out year round and not have to store under the deck or get covers for it. Does this unicorn exist? I've got to watch a barracks get all new furniture delivered to a parking lot and sit for well over a week. This stuff was unloaded, unwrapped and left out in the parking lot. Between the time it was delivered and now we've had a decent rain and that leaves me to wonder how well are all the refrigerators and microwaves going to hold up after being rained on? Also how soaked did the piles of mattresses get and will they have time to dry before they mold? Teapot decorators have encountered this problem on numerous occasions ever since the Teapot was first released. We unlocked a Gramophone! A perfect bit of interior decoration fit for bedrooms or lounges. And it's hard coded as an outdoor item. Okay, what about the Paimon Painting? Great for an art room? Nope, that's hard coded for outdoors. The Raiden Shogun Figurine and Kitsune Doll! Perfect for kids play rooms, or a shrine room befitting the Shogun's excellence! No, those belong in the dirt, apparently. Flower Stands? Flower Pots? Quartet Chorus musical instruments? Even something as simple as the Pear Orchard Seat table, all cannot pass beyond the doorway to your home. I got todays new quest reward from the islands and rushed to place it on a shelf in my teapots bedroom, only to find that it, too is inexplicably locked outdoors. I design outdoor furniture as an industrial designer. Do not ever buy outdoor furniture that has mild steel frames (unless it is galvanised or zinc plated) and don’t buy any that has timber joined directly to other timber unless it’s a big mortise and tenon joint that can withstand shrinking and expanding. Timber moves when it gets above a certain humidity and when rained on. The best you can buy is stainless frames with timber slats with gaps of 5-10mm between slats.
