Master Bedroom in Our Forever Home
My fiancé and I bought and moved into our forever home a couple of months ago, and I’ve been working on combining our stuff and styles. Still things to do and add in the master bedroom, like swapping out the white wall plates for black, and adding a long wood shelf to the wall above the headboard for some plants and art. I’ve always loved history, historic homes, architecture, art, and design. So getting to live in such an incredible home and make it personal and beautiful is one of my lifelong dreams. I’m really happy with how it’s coming together. The bed and nightstands are from Thuma, he had it in his previous place. It’s a great bed, but we might replace it with something a little less MCM in the future. The brass lamps came from somewhere like Home Goods, and they each have two lightbulbs with separate switches…which means that at night I can switch on the red lights. The carved wood piece by the mirror is a monk’s bench from about 1849, and is a Jacobean revival. I got an incredible deal on it. Fireplace dresser and rug are from Amazon. Agate lamp from the Tucson Gem & Mineral Show. The jersey duvet cover is from West Elm, the Tiger pillow is from a local boutique, the patterned quilt came from Target, I think. Wallpaper is The Gardens of Jaipur from Mind the Gap. It’s hard to get a truly representative photo of it…it’s much more beautiful, subtle, and playful in person! submitted by /u/UrbanDurga to r/interiordecorating [link] [comments]

AITJ for telling my boyfriend's mom she is not allowed in our bedroom anymore?
I’m 28F and my boyfriend is 31M. We’ve lived together for about a year, and his mom comes by maybe twice a month because she lives an hour away and likes to drop off food or little things for him. I used to think it was sweet, but over time I started noticing she acts way too comfortable in our apartment, especially in our bedroom. The first time I got weirded out was when I came home and found she had folded the clean laundry that was sitting on the chair at the end of the bed. I thanked her because I didn’t know what else to say, but I told my boyfriend later it made me uncomfortable. Since then she has put away socks, opened the windows in our room because it felt “stuffy,” and once moved a basket from my side of the closet into the hallway because it looked cluttered. Last weekend I got home from work and realized she had been in there again because my nightstand drawer was half open and a bottle of prescription cream I keep in the back was now sitting out front. I was mortified. I told her, directly but calmly, that I need our bedroom to be off limits from now on and that if she wants to help she can stay in the kitchen or living room. She got very quiet, and my boyfriend later said I made her feel like a thief when she was only trying to be nice. I said nice peolpe do not go through private spaces after being hinted at multiple times. Now he says I owe her an apology and I relaly don’t think I do. I live in the Adirondack Foothills, lots of woods and mountains - and lakes!
When we were kids we lived at the Northern end of Lake George, I looked straight down the lake from my bedroom window. Now I live just south of the southern end of the lake. It is a beautiful lake surrounded by mountains. But the southern end, Lake George Village, is crowded with tourists during the summer season. Myself, I prefer the calmer northern end.

AITAH for understanding and not freezing out my dad for leaving our mom over a dead bedroom?
This is a weird post to make because honestly its weird to know such details about my parents but such is life so here goes: My (27M) parents have recently announced they're in divorce proceedings. I was a "surprise" so they are still pretty young, both in their late 40s. I have a younger sister who is 24 and recently married and freaking out. Apparently my dad is leaving my mom because for the last 3 years they basically never had sex. She would have no interest, and I guess it went from once every couple months to in the last year she straight up told him she's just not interested in sex anymore. He asked for an open marriage and she took that as a sign he would cheat and filed for divorce. It sucks, but I get it from both sides. Im not really trying to get in the middle of it tbh. I've always gotten along fine with both of them but my dad and I have always been super close, just way more in common and the more involved parent growing up. So while it sucks they're split, I just want to continue to have a separate relationship with both of them. My sister has taken a different approach and hates my dad right now. She thinks he's being a total a**hole and just saying a lot of mean things about him. Im trying to stay out of that and just let her heal how she needs to. I recently had my dad over for a dinner with my wife and our two young kids. He's doing well and has already started dating someone, and Im honestly happy for him. He's still young and I dont think he should be alone forever since it didnt work out with my mom. I guess my dad posted to his story a picture of him with his grandkids to his facebook so my sister and mom saw it and are mad at me for still being so tight with him. My sister is calling him a cheater and saying Im taking the cheaters side and my mom is saying similar stuff. I feel like Im just being an adult about the situation though. Idk, am I really in the wrong here? My wife says she can see where my sister is coming from but thinks im being more logical about it. Bedroom Ideas Please!
Would love to get some fresh perspectives on our bedroom design and layout. I love our bedroom but I’m feeling a bit stuck about where to start. We haven’t done much since moving in apart from adding the shelf above the bed. The previous owners painted the one wall dark blue and I don’t love it, feels a bit heavy for my taste. We don’t have closet doors so our stuff is so visible and I want the space to feel less noisy. We’re not married to any of the furniture in here except our bed and the dresser. Anything else could go somewhere else in the house. I love the big windows, the way we can see the trees and feel a little “away from it all”. I love our big rug (from my childhood home) and I love our shelf above the bed. I love how spacious the room feels. I want to keep the “tree house” feel I get from the space, if that makes sense, hah! I thought about doing cream colored ceiling hung curtains over the closets but that might feel a bit heavy too from all the fabric. Thought about adding a reading nook. Thought a lime wash paint on the walls in light blue tones to pull out some light blues from the rug. The room has two entry points so we also talked about keeping the entry closest to the large dresser, and dry-walling over the other entry to create a wall and enclose the space a bit more. I’m not sure how I feel about that yet! Mostly just looking for other ideas and considerations. I’m attaching a few other photos of areas in our house that I like, to give a bit more context on our style! submitted by /u/Bright-Broccoli-8482 to r/interiordecorating [link] [comments]

Any decor ideas for my (26M) bedroom?
I'm new to interior design–I didn't have the headspace or money to focus on it initially, but I now realize how important it is for my day-to-day mood and would like to decorate my walls and bedroom to bring a little more color into the room. I thinking about replacing the TV, stand, and lamps with MCM-leaning options and am getting a white Eames lounge chair and ottoman in the corner next to the window/TV. Also will get rid of the striped duvet cover and gray curtains once I have more ideas on accent colors :) My current room feels quite locked into the black and gray theme with the choice of bed/nightstands, and any new pieces I think of adding end up contributing more to this fatigue (see below). Any thoughts on what else I can do to add more color to my bedroom? Lastly, any thoughts on decorating with hobbies and passions in mind? I am into cars, coffee, tennis, and DJing. I don't need every piece I decorate my room with to fit that mold, but I do wonder how y'all like to balance decor like the Porsche metal art (last picture) with more traditional framed art. Read some older posts and saw there’s definitely a way to go overboard with this especially with partners in the mix–but this room is just for me at the moment lol submitted by /u/FoundationTimely5955 to r/interiordecorating [link] [comments]

Husband's bedroom skills seem too good
TL,DR: I'm recently married, and my husband's skills and confidence in the bedroom make me suspect that I'm not his first. It's driving me crazy. Ive been lurking on this board for a while, and Ive found the insight and resources offered here to be excellent, masha-Allah. I have some concerns in my marriage that I wanted to get some advice on. My husband and I were married last summer. We are both American-born Muslims of Pakistani origin in our mid-to-late 20's. Neither of us has been married before. Since we got married, our sex life has been off-the-charts amazing alhamdulillah. We are intimate several times a week, and my husband is a generous, attentive, and energetic lover. But therein lies the problem: he seems a little too good at sex, like I'm not his first. I'm not complaining about the great sex, but I find myself obsessing over the question of whether he's been with other girls before me. I have no frame of reference, but he just seems way too confident in the bedroom for me to have been his first. Don't want to get graphic, but he seems to know his way around a womans body. And it's not like he was awkward at first and got better with experience, he was good from the very beginning. Even on our wedding night, he seemed to know exactly what to do and how to do it. I haven't worked up the courage to ask him point blank whether he's been with other girls, but I have asked him things like, "Where did you learn how to do that?" and "How did you get so good at that?" He just plays it off and says something like, "Oh I'm just gifted, baby." When we were talking, after his family came with the rishta but before we accepted, there was nothing in my conversations with him or the diligence my family and I did on him that seemed to indicate that he had a past or anything. I did ask him if he had ever had a girlfriend, and he said he hadn't. It would be different if he was a convert or something, but his background is basically the same as mine. I really didn't want to marry anyone who had a past. I was chaste and had never been intimate with a guy before, and I wanted to marry a chaste husband. He's always been attractive, charismatic, and popular, and he has a lot of non-Muslim friends, many of whom are female. He invited some of his female friends to our wedding, and I would be lying if I said that didn't bother me at all, but i had no reason to believe they were anything other than friends. My obsessing over this has gotten to the point where I find myself getting upset with him for no reason and finding excuses to deny him intimacy. Because everytime he does something to me in the bedroom, I can't help but think how many other girls he's done it to before me. I'm getting jealous of imaginary girls who may not even exist. I'm starting to hate the idea that there are girls who have known my husband longer than me, because I think of them as people my husband may have slept with. Am I crazy to be thinking about this? Should I just ask him, or would that be pointless since he probably would just lie and say I'm his first? How do I keep from obsessing over this? submitted by /u/RedTrolley to r/MuslimMarriage [link] [comments]
