Looking for a solid filter setup that actually makes tap water taste good and will help me save money in the long run. Already saw Brita and Pur which are cheap upfront but saw feedbacks that replacement filters add up and that they don't do much. Under sink reverse osmosis sounds great but installation looks like a project. Also saw Clearly Filtered and Epic which are countertop filters sounds the most friendly but price per filter is pricey. I have been using Katadyn BeFree filters for a few years now, but although they start well, they drop in flow rate quicker than I'd like and after a winter in storage, I can never get them back to a decent flow. Anyone have suggestions for a good plastic free water filter system? I've been browsing and kind of going crazy trying to decide what filter to buy... The Rorra countertop RO seems pretty good.. Then the My Pure Water Mini Classic Distiller is overall an easy yes for plastic free, but I hesitate cause I heard distilled water pulls minerals from the body... then again I was told to add minerals to your water and hydrogenate it, and you'll be good.? Anyone in this sub do this? Or know of this? A couple other filters that intrigued me...: Spout water system pulls moisture from the air, while also filtering your air, to create drinkable plastic free water... thoughts? The CrispAlpine Mineral Formula Alkaline does hot and cold. If you use any of these or know anything about these filters please drop some info! Id love to read more. Couple months ago I was searching for a gravity filter that doesnt use plastic. At first I got a Berkefeld but was disappointed to find the ceramic filter has plastic parts; the water filters through ceramic but drips out of the black tube that is made of plastic. Even the wingnut and gasket used to secure the candles are plastic made... ended up returning it. I tried hard to find something else and soon came across Ecofiltro. Getting this shipped to the US was pain in the butt since the company only distributes to Europe and Central/South America. I found an online retailer that offered to ship but they never had a customer buy from the states so it took 1 and a half months to finally deliver. Zero plastic from the product itself to even the packaging. Water filters through a ceramic pot and drips into a metal chamber. Spigot is stainless steel, and gasket is made of silicone. At first it took half a day to filter 1 liter of water, but after couple days it began to filter same amount in hour or so. The first batches have an earthy taste, it kind of lingers even after use for couple weeks but it doesn't bother me. Taste should clear up after more months of use, could even use a charcoal stick to remove further smell. Ecofiltro is also environment forward and makes clear on their website and social media to offer their filters plastic-free and pledges to fight water scarcity in developing countries like Guatemala. My main reason for getting one is because I don’t like the taste of the city water. I had been drinking bottled water (delivered by a service, like the big jugs of water) for the past 6 months, until we moved recently. Now I’m back to drinking city/tap water… and I can’t stand the smell and taste. On top of that, I’ve been having stomach problems, and I’m wondering if it’s caused by the water, as the timing lines up. Anyways, I was planning on getting the Berkey one, but now that I’ve read conflicting reviews, I’m not sure. Things to consider: I don’t really want to get a plastic jug water filtration system. I want it to be high quality and last a long time. It will take me awhile to save up for it, so it needs to be worth it! I really hope someone here can help, because I’ve been sitting here for an hour and haven’t come to any conclusions on what will be the best option for us! Last week someone posted this review of water filters. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ja0ioX6GSz0 What I got from it was Berkey filters aren't worth the money and Zerowater did the best at filtering water for a reasonable price. I did some more searching and a lot of people complained that the Zerowater filters didn't last long and were expensive to replace. The Zerowater would smell and taste bad after only a week or two. Tonight I found this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d3MCiFB4biE Now he doesn't name it, but it looks like a Zerowater pitcher and quotes their claim of 0 TDS. I was shocked at what was in the water even though the TDS meter read 0 or very low. And the last one that read higher was nothing more than harmless minerals. I'm kind of feeling lost right now and that all these filters are BS. I feel like I can't get clean water unless I spend thousands on a filter set up. I'm ok with drinking our well water I'm not worried about minerals.
